I was just going to ask for recommendations on a budget friendly set. I see folks here raving about the TCL 4K HDR smart HDTVs alot. I will save up for it between now and my birthday for a nice gift to myself. Thanks!!!

HDR fanatics will say the one I linked you is no good. It's not true HDR, but you get what you pay for. The 4 series is still a quality TV and would be a huge upgrade over a 32" 720p display. We have two TVs that fit that description (hand-me-downs for the bedroom and kitchen) and they are fine for Netflix but I wouldn't want to use them as a primary gaming display after using something bigger and brighter.

I've always found it strange that base games will go on sale for ridiculous prices but dlc is sacred and barely gets any discount at all. Bought our game before and want more? Sucker.

I mean it's the 90% the same stuff as every big sale and the "newer" stuff isn't really discounted that well yet, was hoping for cheaper on Control since it's available far cheaper physically basically everywhere next week. RE2make is in my wheelhouse though at $20, the $5 isn't worth it for the trip out during Black Friday. I can out wait them even longer on Mortal Kombat 11.

Yep, and there may also be more deals added on the "official" sale day, or next Tuesday. Sometimes they roll out additional ones a week later.

It's a great TV. Target and Best Buy still have them on display if you want to see them in person. For most of us, ~$200 for a TV is affordable. Once we get into the $500-800 range, it's way more of an expense, I haven't been willing to drop that kind of cash on a display yet. They may be on sale next week for sub-$200, as someone else said it's happened before for that specific model, so if you have the means to buy it this month, you may get a deal on it.

 

The Roku portion of it also supports the Apple TV app, if you ever buy content on iTunes. I set it up when it came out and it works well enough, which makes buying digital content from Apple much more appealing. 4k content on iTunes displays correctly via the built-in Roku, and they have a lot of $5 deals on movies if you're into that kind of thing.

Beware that 4K at 43" will sometimes yield text that is difficult to read.  Go for 55" if you can.

 

Don't even waste time on 8K, it's a worthless technology.  If you can spend more, spend it on a set with larger size and/or good HDR.

I mean you can get a much better tv for only $150 more. You're on a forum where people have multiple xbox's and spend hundreds of dollars on games they'll never play, i'd say waiting till someone can save up the extra $150 is pretty logical.

 

Also most people say the jump to HDR is more noticeable than the jump to 4k so not sure why you keep trying to dismiss it as a gimmick for us "HDR fanatics"
