CAGiversary!
Apologize in advance, not able to send link or pic.
Dollar General has 15% off gift cards. Ad only shows PSN, Dominoes, Burger King and Chili’s. Ad shows good from 1/27-2/2.
Good time with the essentials sale going on now or to stockpile for another sale.

Thanks for the deal! Burger King and PSN for me!

Any ideas how dollar general seems to be the only retailer that offers straight discounts on PSN & Gamestop cards? (why no other b&m stores offer this)

They've become my money launderer for any gaming purchases as of late. The gamestop $5 off $25 was even better.

I recently read an article about how Dollar General is one of the fastest growing companies because DG is able to penetrate rural markets despite the difficulty that larger chains such as Walmart have in those areas. In other words, they are making money in those places because people use it as a one-stop shopping experience - buying milk, bread, socks, soap, and toys. Maybe they can afford to lose a few bucks on gift card purchases if it gets you into the store to buy other things. I think they call that phenomenon a loss leader. And Family Dollar does it every now and again with Google Play, PSN, and Xbox gift cards...but everyone on CAG shits on Family Dollar.

Yeah, dollar stores are doing more to kill local economies than Wal-mart and are clear indicators of poverty-stricken areas.

Whatevs, though; gonna get me some cheap PS credit!

thats actually quite interesting...thanks for the info and also thanks OP

picked up two PSN cards, fyi if you're trying to have them check what they ring up as before you buy you need to have them scan it and also proceed to payment, it won't reflect the discount on the initial scan

Can confirm. I live 20 miles from any real larger stores. DG is 2 miles away. I can't justify spending $4 per gallon of milk so I don't typically buy my groceries from there unless I'm cooking something and realized at the last minute I'm out of something I needed for it. Personally I can't justify buying $100 in groceries from there when I could get 2 or 3 times the amount of stuff at Aldis/Walmart at that price, but I can see why some people just don't feel like making the drive

This is how it is where my mother lives. Instead of driving across town to Walmart, everyone goes to Dollar General or Dollar Tree ( across the street from each other  ) Sometimes you can go in and find amazing deals on beer too! Thanks for the deal OP!!

I bought one of the Burger King cards that will allow you to put between $15 and $100 on it for $15 today, and it rang up for $12.75 with no issue.

I don't get why anyone even rags on Family Dollar. They fill a gap that really small towns around mine don't have the room or need for a Wallyworld or don't have the infrastructure or populace for a full blown grocery store. The ones I've been to are clean and affordably priced, and have a passable selection on things, especially cleaning supplies.

The last Family Dollar topic it was a bunch of P*****'s worried about the area's that Family Dollar often is in. It wasn't enough for people to just say "the area is rough I'll pass", people went on an on about it. Some deals aren't for everyone. I wish they'd do deals like this on the Xbox cards.

Some @$$hole bought up all the PSN cards at the Dollar General store near where I work. The associate told me that she sold them all to him since there isn't a limit on the number you can buy at once. The only thing that I bought was another Burger King card. I eat at Burger King a few times a week. So I guess I'm still saving money anyway.

I know I am a little late, and I admit I am not bringing the links for the articles, but there are many studies and articles pointing to the net negatives from Family Dollar and Dollar General who usually come in to these rural locales promising great things like jobs and tax revenue and get concessions from local governments. They never return on the tax breaks or land deals etc that they get.

On top of that they do a poor job of actually serving their communities with real choice and healthy selection. On top of that they aren't even that price competitive so these poorer areas end up paying more for worse stuff.

If I can find them I will gladly get the articles. I have read many over the last 18months. The reason to shit on DG and FD is that they really a net negative. Sadly, I am not sure there is much that can be done to get better places back in to these areas because these stores are able to exploit the fact that there are 30k of them in the country which gives them advantages.

Lastly, a lot of these are actually franchises and co-ops. It's kind of a mess, but sure they give some deals here and there, but they aren't something that is great for this country.

Sorry for shitting up the thread about discount cards. We don't have one nearby, but I think, personally I'd rather just eat the 15% in order to not support businesses I don't agree with.

I can appreciate someone with principles. I, on the other hand, am one of the working poor, and I am wholeheartedly willing to sacrifice my principles for a deal. If I had still scruples, I would sell those on Ebay.

Its hard to beat 20 chicken nuggets for $2. Or $1.70 if you use your card!

I applaud people who stand by their principles, but DG is the only store I know that carries Zotz so I will stand by them.

Grabbed a $50 PSN card today by mistake. Discount still worked.

Good luck. I went to a DG and they refuse to let me use a debit card, not credit card, to buy a PSN card. She said cash only. She could not provide me with a policy that backed that up.

"She said cash only." - policy

Also see: right to refuse service policy, esp. For douches who ask a DG cashier to prove it in writing.
Was there a point to your post besides being a complete scumbag?

I was simple warning others of my experience.

As for asking her about their so called policy... where did I state I asked for it in writing? I simply did not understand why a debit card was acceptable. Glad to see we have some real winners on this site who get off by insulting others who try to help.

I'm not trying to troll you, this was your quote
She could not provide me with a policy that backed that up.
The only policy needed was her saying "cash only" to you, which has previously been discussed in this thread as YMMV when trying to buy cards with anything other than cash.

If you seriously said anything to the effect of "please provide me with this policy to confirm why you can't accept my debit card to purchase a gift card at your establishment" to the poor cashier doing their job, then your vagina is quite clean, my friend.

Once again, great job at taking the low road and pulling insults into the mix.

I went thru this thread and found no comments about cash only. Please go back and review the comments and show me what you are referencing. Had I seen one, I would not have posted.

As for me asking the cashier why they only took cash for gift cards... why would I not?

An establishment who promotes they accept VISA/MASTERCARD/SNAP... ect... Tells me they only take cash for a gift card. Why would I not question this? It is not like I stood there and asked for a manager, berated the employee or threw things... I simply recommended they put up a sign in the area of the gift cards because nothing was posted.

I guess it bothers you that I questioned an employee, recommended she post a sign to help other customers and posted on this website to help other CAG's so they can go prepared.

Did not realize that people would be so butt hurt about others trying to help.

The new 15% off deal at Dollar General starting today, 2/3, until Saturday, 2/9 is on Apple iTunes cards.  Probably for Valentine's Day.
