I had an annoying experience today when trying to price match the game at a local Walmart. When I went to go buy the game, I asked the store associate if they price matched walmart.com. He said he wasn't sure, and asked another employee. The other employee said yes, but because the difference was so much, a manager had to approve it (The price was $49.99 in store for the non-gold edition). I said fine, and an assistant manager showed up a minute later.
When she found out that it was a $40 difference she said that she couldn't do a price match because their inventory said it was limited qty. I replied to her that the website was still selling it for $9.99 and that i could still buy it and do a store pick up at this local store. I also saw 5 physical copies in the display case right now. She kept on giving me the run around saying that she couldn't do it, and that they changed their PM policy two weeks ago, so if the store inventory was limited they couldn't PM walmart.com. I told her that doesn't make sense, the game isn't out of stock, I see it online and for store pick up today. She said that if I talked to the store manager, she would say the same thing to me. I asked to speak to the store manager...
Three minutes later, the store manager came down, and found out how much the PM difference was. She said no, and kept on saying the inventory was limited. I told her, "But that doesn't mean it is sold out, I can still buy the game and do store pick up today." The manager said that the website on my phone shouldn't let me be able to my the game since her store inventory shows that it was limited. I showed her that it is giving me the option to pick up from this store and that I got to the credit card info page. She said that, "I should just do store pick up then, but it might take 5 hours to process the order." My response to that was, " But I'm already in the store, and it would be easier to just have you guys price match it instead of waiting for a store pick up confirmation, and I've never had a problem price matching walmart.com before...." She said the system won't let her do it since they have limited quantities. And I kept telling her that doesn't mean it is sold out and that if you want me to do store pick up, why can't you just PM.
Finally she just told the store associate to "just give it to him." I said thank you and she left. I just don't understand why both the assistant manager and store manager was making such a big deal about it. I always thought the one place Walmart would price match, is their own website. I felt like I was talking in circles. But whatever, I got the game finally.
I'm not surprised. I've never been able to get them to price match their own website. It's ridiculous. I've had at least 3 lengthy arguments similar to yours. It's why I no longer shop there. One time they argued over $5. They started being dicks about 5-6 years ago when moron employees were price matching fake Amazon pages for like $50 Ps4's..... It made national news. Tons of people were doing it. Since then they won't price match anything.
