Ni no kuni remastered $49.95 Switch, PS4 @Bandai Namco Store 9/20/19

Where is the White Jizzard Edition that is limited to 100 prints with piss-poor ordering system? Idk if I can support this w/o a Collectors Edition fiasco.

The Nintendo Switch version runs at 720p/30fps but is the first handheld iteration of the game
Not super important but it’s the second handheld version as the game also released on the DS. It was Japanese only (I have a copy) but has been fan translated. This is the first handheld version outside of Japan DS original.

DS version is Ni No Kuni: Dominion of the Dark Djinn.

PS3/PS4/Switch game is Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch.

Technically different games, same plot. They’re as different as Seiken Densetsu 3 (SNES) and the PS4/PC/Switch Trials of Mana.

In the original, the cutscenes appeared to be something like 15fps. I can’t imagine those were redone, since they were all original cell animation. I can’t imagine that changing (though the possibility of 4K cut scenes is intriguing).

The first game is one of my favorites, and the reason I got a PS3. However, both games went into the bargain bin fairly quickly. I imagine this will be the same.

Still not sure this is really "remastered" given the Switch doesn't seem to be getting a "remastered" label and the only current features they seem to be listing to warrant the "remaster" claim on the PS4/PC is a resolution and performance bump.  I'm think this might be something more like the Trails of Cold Steel PC/PS4 releases.

The NS version just sounds like a port of the PS3 version... it doesn't sound improved all that much. $50 for that sounds like a lot.

Agreed.. I was excited until it started sounding like the Switch isn't getting the remastered version. Still neat, but not $50 worth.

Half-assed cash grab by shitty Bandai Namco. Yes it's good for those who always wanted it, but I was one of the people screwed over by the Wizard's Edition while other people got multiple copies shipped to them without ever even pre-ordering early. They weren't even charged for it. Scalpers had a field day on ebay along with free money for those who got multiple copies at no charge. They cancelled most if not all of the early pre-orders and people came in and took everything when the pre-order link went up closer to release. Digital piece of shit River.

Aside from that people playing on Switch aren't going to notice a resolution drop unless they had it on PS3. The "remaster" is barely one with only a resolution bump when the game really needs improvement in several areas including the battle system.

Which is why i’ve yet to own a switch. there’s only like less than 5 games on there i’m interested in playing.

I decided not to buy a Switch because it's an underpowered Wii U 2 and they didn't serve the customer base for the Wii U very well. The library of games is minimal at best.

same here i bought a wii u during the holidays in 2014. they didn’t treat us very well. but the home brew support was worth it to me. getting a switch is not a priority to me.

While I do feel this is overpriced (should be $39.99 at most) I think this thread has been derailed a bit. There is no exclusivity with this release though. Skipping it as September is a full month with DQ 11 Switch, Daemon x Machina, and Trails of Cold Steel 3 along with others i'm sure.

Look at Catherine remasterd it's launching at $59.99 MSRP. Lets see how nnk will actually sell?

Going to wait and see if any comparisons are posted comparing the original.  I've got a sealed copy of the PS3 version I've yet to play, but would upgrade to the PS4 version if it's worth it.

Hopefully it's not buggy as that Tales of Vesperia: Definitive Edition port they did earlier this year.  That game had issues with the music speeding up during battles and the game crashing randomly on the Switch.

I think I even recall them putting up copies on their official ebay account. No regard to the original preorder customers.

They also held "contests" on the Facebook page years later to snag a copy of the Wizard's Edition and this is after the PS4 was already mid-life cycle. They did list copies on ebay through their store. The only thing they did for pre-order customers who got screwed was a copy of the strategy guide but you had to fill out some form I think. I received one which I gave to someone as a gift since I refused to buy the game.

The biggest thing that pissed me off was that numerous people were getting multiple Wizard's Editions sent to them and weren't even charged. They were never the original pre-order customers that got burned. The game released on my birthday and my gift never came.

That's not entirely fair. Atlus is adding quite a bit to Catherine beyond just smoother framerates and better resolution.

If you have a lot of free time on your hand I believe this may be the thread with the Wizard's Edition debacle:

I know Namco got a lot of flack for the NNK thing and they deserved some of it but Digital River was as much to blame, or more so, as Namco.

The backdoor link that let people order early was DR's fault. The lack of a limit on orders was DR's fault. The fact that those backdoor orders were fulfilled first was DR's fault. The fucked up corrections regarding the CE orders and the guide were also DR's fault. Namco's only real option was probably to produce more and that would like just result in more people being upset.

DR was, by far, the worst vendor I've ever dealt with and they were used by a lot of different game companies (Capcom, SE, Namco are the 3 I remember, I think there were a few more- I think Konami?) online stores. I know Namco and SE no longer use DR, luckily.
