I would bet the system will be $499.99 and $599.99 no disc and disc version. They learned their mistake when the PS3 came out.

Yeah, PS3 was $600 when it came out, which is why I bought an Xbox 360, and then I waited for the inevitable price drop on PS3.  I am interested in a PS5, but unless the backwards compatibility level is amazing to the point where I can unhook my other Playstation consoles, I'll be waiting for a price drop again.

Releasing a digital only version leans towards BC being an afterthought at this point.

I am estimating 400 and 500 for the two versions. also guessing they will be scalped for an extra $200 easily for the first month.

I think we're overlooking the big question that hasn't been addressed yet.  What color will the game cases be?  PS3 was clear, PS4 was blue...  Personally, I really want purple.

They should go green while Microsoft goes blue. Confuse everyone.

I'd be surprised if it was purple because that's what the Kinect game cases were.

Saw a makeup of a white game case on twitter that looked slick.

Also, not surprised that TLOU2 got great scores. It seems like the kind of game that is almost review proof. No one would dare give it a bad score or risk being called a troll or something.

Not quite. They're on a tight leash with what they're able to discuss which leaves out the second half of the game, aka the controversial portion so the reviews will read oddly to anyone who finishes the game in another week. They're also professional reviewers and have to look at the artistic value of a game, while pure gamers will just go in wanting a good game and expectations of continuing to follow Ellie and Joel down their path; political nonsense be damned.

That said, the actual 'game' is as I expected from what reviews have stated: does absolutely nothing to move the needle for third-person shooters and the same tired n' old environmental puzzles. It will be a trip down memory lane for me as I slog through the gameplay just for the story, and I'm seriously considering just watching a full cutscenes video instead if Sony even allows it.

At this point, I truly do wish they hadn't even made a second game.

If they list at $600 then they didn’t learn a damn thing from PS3. I could see a launch of $450 or $500, with less for digital only. Even then, sales will not be as dramatic for launch.
Unfortunately, this means Sony will probably list at $600.

I saw a bunch reviewers that saw the leaks and loved the game, one review by Gene Park he even stated that much was of the leaks were fake. I get that many hate the 1st game etc. But there is also many fake haters out there, the quartering for example didn't even get the game and they are saying Sony paid for reviews.

Gene Park : "The Last of Us 2 Chilled my blood cold"

Maybe it's because I like stuff like the Walking Dead etc but that sounds like my type of game.

Everyone has different tastes though so just enjoy what you like.

As I mentioned a few months back after I completed the first game, I enjoyed the story, mood, characters, environments, voice acting, and everything else about the first Last of Us...except the gameplay.  I'm not a fan of stealth games like this where you basically have to sneak past practically everything or they one-hit kill you, nor am I fan of crafting, or the fact that supplies were no insanely rare (especially on later difficulties.)

Now, I'm not the type of person who expects game sequels to majorly change their gameplay with each installment, so I completely expect the second game to play exactly like the first and wouldn't want it any other way.  Which is why I'll just wait for the PS5 definitive edition to hit bargain basement prices.  Oh sure, I'll play it, but it's because I want to see how the story plays out, the actual gameplay will just be the slog I have to sit through to experience it.

From what I've heard, there's a tonal shift from stealth to action as you're just constantly murdering everything. So much so that people actually WANTED to use stealth just for a breather. This is pretty much how I played the first game though, because stealth was trash to begin with. It led to many restarts for situations I couldn't exactly rambo, but through brute force I'd usually find a way through. Either way, the combat system isn't deep enough to satisfy regardless for me; 10/10 would play Demon's Souls in a week if it were out over this.

I think $499 is about right with the drive, as I'm almost certain that will be the price of Xbox as well. Amid sourcing issues and prices in flux, they don't really have wiggle room here and both systems would flatline at $600 given the state of things so they'd be better off delaying until next year if that were the case.

That said, I still haven't seen anything that would convince me to buy this year; I'm happy with my X1X and PS4 Pro with a ton of games still waiting to be played and a WoW expansion dropping in most likely November. Yeah, I won't be touching anything else for at least six months after that. If Demon's Souls is a PS5 exclusive, then I'll get one then but I very much doubt their announcement was about a holiday release and more likely a reactionary trailer to appease the clear demand for the game. I'd bet we won't see that one for another year or two.

At least Village looked fresh, taking a different spin on Resident Evil 4. That one has me the most excited out of everything shown.

Village almost feels like a remake of four with a first person camera, since that game also took place in a village.

This is my guess too.  Sony willing to take a bath on the digital version knowing they can make up the cost on the sale of 1 or 2 games off the PSN store.

$400-600 is a decent chunk of money but that’s not even the issue since you’ll use the box a long time. The real issue is the same as it is with every console launch. It’s the fact that everything is priced at the maximum level. You don’t buy a console and sit it on a shelf and wait for games to depreciate. You buy 2-4 game with it. If you’re lucky 1-2 of those would be ones you actually want. The quality of many games at launch tend to be lackluster and many for the first two years are remasters. Most people will buy the console, maybe 3 games, and an extra controller and will end up spending 800-1000. Then you get to play the waiting game. Six months for the next set of games. Last time Sony claimed they had tons of games in their launch window but their launch window was 18 months! In fact, I think they did that the last two times.

I don't think the price difference between disc version and digital version is going to be as much as $100 but it should be. They also need to come up with some reason for people to want to buy digital games over physical. I'd love to get a digital only PS5 but man that's gonna be a tough sell if you're promoting backwards compatibility with PS4 and now all my discs don't work. Or when my digital store sells games for the same price as physical but hardly ever puts them on sale.

I’m laughing and crying while thinking about revisiting “$599 US Dollars”

I’d prefer to go all digital personally going forward, but physical sales on games are generally better and sooner. More often than not, I seem to have buyers remorse spending $60 on a digital game at launch.

I suspect that my purchasing habits will just change to accommodate the cost difference...aka buy nothing at launch ($60) and wait for a sale at $40 or $20 or less depending on my interest after the initial excitement passes.

I have GS credit to burn on a PS5, but I’m not sure if I will just be buying it to play PS4 games for a couple years. I’m interested in TLOU2, but I’m debating waiting to play it on PS5 versus settling for the PS4Pro...same goes for Cyberpunk. Have any reviews addressed performance of TLOU2 yet?

I also remember how cross gen games held the ps4 back for quite awhile by being developed for the ps3 and ported up instead of the other way around...aka still ps3 games not ps4.

I think the first real ps4 game that I recall playing was Bloodborne, which came out a year and half or two after launch.

Orange and black...that would be my case and console color preference.

I don't see much of a reason to wait. It's only going to be $100 cheaper two years later, so you might as well get one at launch.

They should make the cases Atari 2600 style so we can line them up on our shelves

About reviews: I don't use them for opinions; I just read them for technical reasons; to get a basic understanding of how the game works. Taste is entirely subjective; take the ten most popular games of all time and you'll find plenty of gamers who hate them. If a review tells me what to expect in the way of gameplay and story, it's done its job.

I agree with this wholeheartedly.  I don't want or care about a reviewer's opinion.  Heck, I don't even need a review score (I don't use them in my reviews).  I want to know what the gameplay is like, what the mechanics are... you know, what I'll actually be doing in the game.  Obviously if there are any glaring issues or something that makes it stand out as special or unusual, I want to hear about it, but more as a discussion around what the game is doing compared to other genre entries as opposed to someone saying "I loved this" or "this sucks".

Go for it, someone has to buy at launch. Many people would like to save that $100 and have a couple games packed in and other games for 20 or 30 bucks. When you add the game discounts in, you’re paying many hundreds more at launch, not just 100. But like I said, someone has to buy at launch so more power to you.

My guess is $399 for the disc-less and $450 for the disc version. They don't want a repeat of PS3. The Series X will be $499 like the XB1X.

If it's like Xbox, then you'd be able to download PS4 games you already own on the Playstation Store. Most of my PS4 games are digital. Of the few discs I have, most of those I also have digital at least from PS Plus by now (although I wouldn't be surprised if PlayStation pulls some bullshit like making PS Plus games for PS4 ineligible for download on PS5).

No way that cheap. I see 499 disc less and 599-699 for the disc version (which will also boast a bigger HD
