There's a reason that companies weren't able to maintain those insane prices.  I believe they are going to find out that $69 a game is going to be more detrimental than good.  And we'll either see quicker sales and price drops or a revert back to $59 especially with the upcoming economic climate.

This is a copy/paste from a post I made in the Xbox thread

I think of the big reason that games have not been rising in cost as much as some would think is due to both the move from cartridges to discs and to the rising player base resulting in increased sales. I felt like I remembered GTA 3 breaking all the sales records by a long shot when it hit like 4 million in sales. I looked it up just to be sure and it sold about 5.6m. Released in 2001. Fast forward to 2014 for the release of gta 5. In its life it has sold over 110 million copies. Was it more expensive to make gta 5 than it was to make 3? I bet it was. But it also sold 104 million more copies.

Even something small, Dead Cells, has sold over 3 million units now.

This is the one problem with claiming that video games are art. Because, art is ridiculously expensive.

They can charge $70 or $100 for a game or whatever they want, for whatever real or made up BS reasons they want to. The reality is they will ALSO still be showering every game with, Deluxe editions, seasons passes, DLC, micro transactions, battle passes and whatever other nonsense they can shove down people’s throats. And all the while making record breaking profits (mostly going to executive bonuses no doubt).

The economics of video games is fundamentally broken from the start.

But with all that in mind, I will continue not buying any of the extra crap, and wait till games (besides a tiny handful per year) hit bargain basement prices before pulling the trigger.

Predatory publishing companies 0.
Having some patience 1.

I just started playing Earth's Dawn myself.

It says the planet was invaded by hostile aliens in 2020.

Uh, yeah? Have you not noticed, it’s been all over the news lately.

Is that a US ad or from somewhere else? Because I would have thought a lot of those games would have been $50

I think that ad is Canadian, or maybe in a market like NYC or Los Angeles.  Because the retail for most SNES games of average size was $59.99.  Donkey Kong Country was $59.99 because I remember David Perry complaining about them releasing a 32 Mega cartridge for that price at the same time his company was releasing Earthworm Jim on a smaller cartridge but the third party costs made it more expensive at $64.99.

Other than special games that had pack in stuff, Street Fighter 2 released and ranged from $69.99 up to $74.99 but the Electronic Boutique I worked at sold it for $71.99.  Street Fighter 2 Turbo sold for $72.99 and Super Street Fighter 2 was $73.99 (I remember the $1 bump up each year).  Back then games would vary in price a little bit depending on mall rent for the store.  Killer Instinct was also in that range.

Those game were expensive, looking at it now they were not worth it. Technically can we say the games these days are the same price. Considering the the complete edition or other editions out there are around the same price even up to $120 worth these day.

To say they weren't worth it feels like hyperbole to me. Yes, they were very expensive, but I cannot tell you how many hundreds of hours I got out of SF2 turbo, Chrono Trigger, Breath of Fire 2, Link to the past, etc. Quality amounts of content and replayability makes it worthwhile in my opinion. I got new games on Christmas and birthday and maybe one other for saving money from chores, so we made them last and replayed the hell out of them.

I won't be thrilled if companies choose to bump it up another $10, but it'll just make most of us more selective of our choices, right? There's too many games to play as is, I think most of us here have enough backlog to pass to our kids and keep them gaming for decades lol.

This thread was started July 11, so might be celebrating a little early. Or did PSNOT start on the 4th?

Rise of Tomb Raider, NBA 2k20 and Erica. Should be dropping on Tuesday.

Those are the PS+ games. The big games that are new to the PSNOW service will most likely be announced on Tuesday like whitereflection said, although the indie game (Hello Neighbor) was already announced.

I didn’t know they were organized enough to have a PSNow game reveal date. Most of the time it seems like it’s just thrown out there randomly.

CAG started on July 4th, 2014. Everything before that was a mistake.

I dont remember games being that high. I think there was a few that were 69.99 but most weren't. It also depends were you bought them.

Does Bloodborne Complete Edition ever go on sale? Brought home my old CE and the disc wasn't in the case...

I bought 3 games a launch in the last 10 months or so.  Which is about 2 more then I usually do.  All 3 were with GCU or the 30% off coupon.  Now that my GCU is gone I will likely buy on average 1 a year.

I think the timing of this (as someone else already mentioned) is pretty tone deaf.  A price increase right as the economy tanks?

Just tried out that free 10 year anniversary theme. Looks awful. Just bright yellow with yellow icons you can barely make out, and no BGM or custom tones either.

Pro: No ambient audio

Con: most of the characters aren’t even first party characters! Big Daddy and Little Sisters are most of it. There’s a few clickers and Bloodborne guy though.

Anyone here who plays ESO and wants a code for a free pet? I just received a code but I've only ever played the game for 45 minutes tops. And that was like three years ago.

Let me know, I'll send it.

Claimed.

Just finished The Last of Us finally! Bought itDay 1 on PS3 and the Remastered version a couple years later for $10 from CDKeys. Looking forward to 2 but will probably wait till the PS5 hits since it will likely be an upgrade.

Did you see the tweet from CAG? If you have a PS Plus account, the three free games for July -- Erica, NBA 2K20, Rise of the Tomb Raider -- can be purchased to own for free. It'll show the price, but in the cart the whole thing gets subtracted. I don't know if you have to do it through the browser or not, but that's how I did it.
