I need to get a new external HD for my Xbox One. Any particular recommendations? I'd probably be for about 3-4 TBs. Thanks!

i know this is 4 mos late, but it depends on what you're doing with the external.

if you only store games and don't play them from the drive, speed is not an issue, just capacity and cost.

I use this seagate expansion portable (tho the western digital my passport is about the same), on sale at one point for around $75-85. https://www.staples.com/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-Hard-Drive-4TB-Black/product_2095130

4TB is plenty of space, it's usb 3.0, and it's bus powered (no separate power cable). read and write speeds are unremarkable, around 100MBps read, and around 70-80MBps write, sometimes less. this drive is slower than the xbox internal hdd, however larger and cheaper. i've had good luck with mine, but i don't transfer 1TB at a time because the larger the transfers, the more heat generated and heat is bad for hdd/ssd. some is ok, but extended periods will wear the drive out.

if you are going to play games from the drive then you need an SSD (solid state drive, like flash memory, no moving parts). the ssd will give you transfer speeds much faster (around 400-600MBps read/write) than the xbox internal hdd. this is about performance and not capacity or cost. the external ssd must be at least usb 3.0 or better, and capacity must be at least 256GB (an MS thing, forget what they say about 128GB), though i would recommend either 512GB or 1TB because 256GB isn't big enough and you'll be shuffling games around too much. that and more than 1TB will be getting close to the cost of the console.

after having done some looking myself, i'd say this one:

https://www.amazon.com/ADATA-SE800-IP68-Rugged-ASE800-1TU32G2-CBK/dp/B07V1H939C/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_product_top?ie=UTF8

the adata se800 1TB. a couple others are the crucial x8, samsung t7 or t5, or the sandisk extreme portable.

the adata comes with a 3 year warranty and not much in the way of frills. at $130 (couldn't find it lower) it seems to me, the best performance and size combo for the money.

also, as i mentioned heat being an issue, prop up the external so that airflow can get under and around the drive and you'll be golden if you don't try to burn it up.

good luck and lemme know whatcha get when/if you do!
