Do know that prices are not set by Nintendo or anyone unless it is a product specifically made for Black Friday such as the Mario 3DS Black Friday Bundle which had it's own MSRP of $100.

Stores can drop prices for Black Friday as they want otherwise which is why you'll see games from years ago going for $10 - $20. Usually those games are backstock that they are trying to get rid of.

Also stores can have door busters for ridiculous prices but it means nothing when each store only has 6 in stock and the price is only active from 6pm to 8pm (which stores have done in the past, look at Kohl's or Old Navy with the Super Mario Wii giveaway).

I don't know if these prices are the final prices, and they can change too. Grain of salt and all that.

Prices absolutely can be set by manufacturers - there's MSRP, which is a suggested price, and then there's UMRP which is the theoretical minimum a manufacturer will allow a price to be sold for with very few exceptions.

I was specifically talking about Black Friday. Yes, manufacturers can and do set prices (MSRP). UMRP isn't really a term or practice most distributors will enforce since no store wants to lose money by selling an item so low that they lose profits (outside of clearance where they would lose money keeping those items in store or are trying to recoup losses).

For BF, manufacturers don't normally have a say in the individual prices that a store will sell an item for outside of Black Friday specific items such as the Splatoon / Smash Bros Wii U console from 2015 (which had a MSRP of $250 and was discontinued the day after BF).

So what you're saying is there's no way to edit an existing photo?

No, replying that the verbiage in that picture is exactly what they put in their ads contrary to what was said.

Didn't want to make a thread since it isn't officially anything. It's a mock up from those making the ad but nothing is set in stone. For all they know it could be changed to bundles at $200 for Switch Lites instead of a $50 drop or Switch Bundles could be backstock for V1 and not on V2.

This is why I said originally to take the ad with a grain of salt.

well the posive I guess is Gamerants or whatever it is face you you credit in the video.

Not to mention there is a section listing “general merchandise?” Whaaat? Also not to mention the general layout and color scheme is nothing like any BF ad that Walmart has ever done. It’s not just a fake, it’s a baaaaad fake.

The only possible price that Maybe.. Maybe MAYBE is true is the Xbox one.

Aside of that I don’t see any of the others to be true.

PS4 being $150 wouldn’t surprise me too much. I remember BF before the PS4 launched that the PS3 Slim was around that price and bundled with a physical game (I bought two, one bundles with the last of us and the other with the Batman game of the time). Still, this is a layout design and not the final ad. It should be a couple of weeks and real ads should start showing up. So, all this design should do is remind everyone how close BF is and to hold purchases of likely products to be on sale.

Technically, they did do a "general merchandise" on the last black friday ad. But, that's they used to make this one. They looked at last year, tried to copy the format as close as possible, and said "people will fall for this".

1) Walmart is one of the last companies to release BF ads due to price configuration, they know the items but not the actual price yet. The page format seems incorrect as it does not show add-on sales like controllers.

2) Sony, Nintendo, and Microsoft set the price for their consoles.

$150 for PS4 sounds right, I believe last year it was $200 and there were deals through out the year that match the price. PS5 is around the corner so it might be a reasonable last year push to gain more game sales for 2020.

Thinking this is a hoax ad, but I could see some of these prices maybe as Doorbusters, but $200 Switch and $150 Switch Lite seems unlikely.

Fake.  No way they discount the Switch Lite by 25% a couple of months after it was released.

I see no reason why Switch consoles would get such deep discounts

It's time TBH, they have been in last place for two generations now and when PS4 Pro drops to $299 with Switch being the exact same price, they would be steamrolled this Holiday season. PS5 is only a year away now, so if they don't prove the system now, it'll be dead in a year a la WiiU. They should be cutting their losses and had a competitor ready to go next year, but Nintendumb still can't shake elder leadership and the beat goes on with poor decision-making. The only thing keeping them afloat is the 'Disney-effect' of new generations passing on the brand via nostalgia.

The Switch is selling very well. They do not need to drop the price to sell it this holiday season. Sony and Microsoft are gearing up for their new consoles next year and will both likely have consoles for under $200 this Holiday season. I could see the Switch being dropped to $250 on Black Friday, but doubt we will see discounts (save maybe a doorbuster or two) for the Switch Lite. They are going to sell Switch consoles like mad this Christmas they have an incredible library currently.

The PS4 and Xbox One will do fine this Holiday, but I wouldn't imagine either will outsell the Switch.

Let's say it's real:
You wanna get one of these on sale w/o fighting the huge mob?
Put it on layaway. Buy it on Friday, as long as it's still on sale, you'll get it for that price.
Great deals you can't get are those unadvertised ones, looking at you: Switch Doom & Diablo 3.

I didn't say it's not selling well, I said it's not selling well enough to outpace the competition which is the point of market share. The advantage they have (had) is price-point. Imagine if Switch had debuted at $399 while Pro was still dominating. Think it would have done nearly as well as it has up to this point? Nope.

And don't say "well Switch has a different target audience with portability" because that's horseshit and if that market existed, PS4/X1 would have been dusted. The gaming market comes down to best bang for your buck and people are always going to go with the system that has the biggest catalogue of games appealing to them, at the best price-point.

Well you’re partly right, 60% of switch owners in Us have an Xbox or PS4: https://www.nintendo...s-ps4-xbox-one/

But that also means 30-40% don’t have an Xbox or PS4. That’s a sizable market imo, I think switch is around 15M in USA? That’s likely 6-7M then. Not small imo.

And I’m pretty sure switch has been outselling PS4 since at least mid to late 2018, and doubling Xbox one sales yearly since launch I believe. I believe switch is just below 40M now, will pass 40M during holidays, and Xbox One is barely above 40 (last I heard was around 41/43m)

So I think switch is outpacing PS4 slightly (like 18m vs 16-17m) and Xbox one by a lot (like 18m yearly vs 8M)

Absolutely fake.

Black Friday is two things:
•A time for stores to clear their shelves of old products that won't move as well over the holidays
•A tool to get people to start "opening their wallets" for the season.

The "deals" here don't make financial sense from a retail perspective.

Console hardware is already sold at a near non-existent profit margin, this is why you only ever see older hardware go on actual "sale" below normal process (occasionally a 3+ year old system gets $10-20 off, it's it really not moving). Instead, you see pack-ins. Pack-ins are arranged through the manufacturer, and are typically included inside the console package (or in the notorious case of Nintendo, pre-installed on the hardware so that you can't trade with a friend or resell the game). You certainly aren't going to see a game system that's been out less than six months steeply discounted. You'd be lucky to see it bundled with a game at all this season. If they sell you a newly released system at a literal financial loss, at most you'll buy a couple discounted games too -you know, games that are already marked down at a loss to get you in the door. There has to be a logical profit point. And they've learned that people rushing to grab video game discounts generally aren't sticking around for much else.

And a PS4 for $150? Maybe the 'mini' model, next year. They aren't hurting to clear store shelves a year before the PS5 releases. Based on past generations, if anything they do that the year AFTER a new generation releases.

Somebody has way too much time on their hands and is pretty bad at Photoshop, and I'm looking at the OP on both counts -they brought this sad attempt in here after all.

PS3 Slim was about this price with a packed in game before the PS4 launched.  The purpose of discounting a system like this isn't to make money on the system it's to sell more games while there is still life in the system.  People get a cheap system and buy a lot of games that they missed out on.  It's a win for the publisher.

If anything the Switch is far too popular for this hefty a price cut for black friday... but they've done door buster deals on hardware before that were pretty fantastic... so I guess it's just a matter of probably under a month easy and we'll have the real ad to see what the prices are.   I wouldn't be shocked to see deals on the Switch, PS4 and X1 systems... because again, it's about game sales.

I didn't say it's not selling well, I said it's not selling well enough to outpace the competition which is the point of market share.

It's long since past the PS4 (all models combined) in Japan and has been outselling the PS4 in the USA.   Considering Pokemon is on the horizon, I expect we are about to get a huge influx of players.  My bro, who I wouldn't call a gamer, is getting a lite simply because of Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
