2020 Thrift Store Thread -- Share Your Findings Here

Dawn of a new decade means it's time for a new thread. Being the group of cheapassgamer's that we are, it's only natural that thrift stores would be one of our main areas to hit up. I noticed that the TC of the last year's thread was banned, so I figured I'd make the new thread this year.

That being said, thrifting requires a lot of persistence, I can't tell you the amount of times that I have come home with nothing. In order for it to be worth your time you really do need to expand past just video game items. I've seen crazy things worth lots of money. Toys, board games, anime and manga sets, other electronics, even holiday decorations!

Here's last year's, the year before last's, and the year before the year before last's thread if your looking for some motivation. Quite a big number of great finds to be seen there.

In last year's thread, the TC collected several year's worth of these topics. I'll keep them all here and add the one from last year's as well.

...Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaand here we go!

Thanks for starting the new thread OP, quite gracious of you to take the helm. Hoping that everyone scores some legendary finds in 2020!

Technically from 2019, but we could use a pic to start this off. I had to drop some stuff off at Goodwill the other day and decided to look around, despite knowing this time last year they started shipping stuff to their online store. Maybe they've changed their policy, because I was able to get these 4 Wii games and the Kids in the Hall set in minty condition! The games are great, but the best deal was definitely the KitH set.

Starting off slow the 1st week of the year. Havent seen much of anything at the smaller thrifts. Yesterday GW had a stack of meh-okay Xbox/PS2/Wii games, nothing I had to have. Theyve got a Genesis Model 1 with 2 controllers and ac adapter in the case for $30 and a console only Xbox360 Elite for $20. Somehow I missed a blue 3DSXL in the case when I walked in because someone was looking at it when I came back up to buy something else....it was $25. I got these Pokemon cards in a Burger King Manaphy case for $1.08.

Goodwill trippin again- $30 for a cartridge only copy of Michael Jacksons Moonwalker for Genesis. Yeah I know its worth like $40 on Ebay but once again.... they paid nothing for it.

At the same time, if you got it for $3, you wouldn't sell it for $15 even though you paid almost nothing for it.

There's a difference ...being me cleaning and testing it then actually listing it on Ebay and paying Ebay, PayPal, and shipping fees. Someone dropped that off at Goodwill and they just looked it up online.

Not a thrift store find but I got all this at an estate sale today for $137.

Thrifting I found a sealed copy of Duke Nukem Forever for 360 for $2 (some Target exclusive version with 3D glasses and a poster I guess) and two NES controllers and a Zapper for $5

Moved fairly recently so I have been buying mostly household stuff at thrift stores and whatnot.

My first post. Found this today @ savers. $200 out the door.

27 games, 2 turntables 2 guitars, one complete wii console, balance board, 2 controllers 1 nunchuck, tony hawk skateboard & misc crap. Not bad. There’s about 17 games that are worth keeping or not games that I already have.

Edit: apparently need 3 post before pics. Stay tuned

that trunk is nice

Yellow tags were 25% off so I finally grabbed the Sega stuff that had been sitting for a week. Logitech G213 Prodigy keyboard was $3. Genesis with controllers and ac adapter was $22.75. Michael Jacksons Moonwalker was also $22.75. GameGear stuff was $9. Genesis stuff was still more than I'd like to give GW but I knew it wouldn't make it to 50% off day. GameGear needs new capacitors. Got those and the McWill LCD mod ordered for it!

Grabbed this for a sweet $1. It's goddamn brand new!

I heard the Wal-Mart edition with the Batmobile DLC is worth way more money than a regular brand new one. Anybody know for sure?

Console only Dreamcast was $9 (I have extra cables and controller). Game Boy link cable was $1. Intellivision games were mostly $3 or $6 apiece. A few were $9 apiece. Hate when they individually price stuff like they're a game store or Ebay but at least they weren't super crazy today. My Intellivision knowledge is slim, hopefully something in the stack is some what desirable.

The dungeons and dragons games is very good.

Unfortunately none of those intv games are highly sought after. Some of them are fun though.

Okay. Didnt have time to look them up. They only had 2 employees checking people out and the one girl had to stand there and watch me because they came from the precious glass case. Since the line was getting long I just told her Id take all of them and the Dreamcast as long as nothing was over $10. I said, "too bad theres no system" and she said "yeah maybe they put it on ShopGoodwill. Theyve got an Xbox One on there with 8 games for like $70 right now." Took everything I had in me to not rant about my hate for SGW!

Intellivision showed up in the case with 10 more games.... $75. No video cable, power switch was either missing or inside the system. I just cant understand why they dont just mark it like $30 to move it on! That's still all profit for them. It almost makes me want to bring my stack of games back and just get a refund.

Unless you are an intv collector the games and system don't hold much value. It can't be played on modern TVs, most games are not something most people have heard of, and the controllers suck. Return the games unless you really like the box art

$25 console only Wii..... $20 apiece for Top Gun NES and Track And Field NES :bomb:..   theyve lost it!

Gaming related finds so far:

007: Quantum of Solace (Wii) - $1

OG Xbox S Controller - Black (needs breakaway cable) - $3

NBA Live 2005 (Xbox) - $2

Other good finds so far:

Sony 3D BluRay Player - $15 (it was initially priced at $30) :D/

Books

Glassware

Picked up a sealed 3.5mm to rca cable for a buck at the small thrift today. Bundled it with my Genesis so they can get stereo sound. Not gonna bother with GW for awhile. Maybe they'll wonder why "video game guy" hasn't been in....

Just snagged this bad boy for $5! It's flawless! Winning!

m_5d76a08a2eb33f8ff39949d4.jpg

Not only that, but I listed it on eBay and it sold for $50 within a few hours! Probably could have gotten $60+ for it. Oh well.

Best find/buy so far this year (at Salvation Army):

Dell Latitude E6400 Notebook/Laptop w/ Windows 10 (works perfectly) - $25

Other finds:

More books

Found some Bose Quiet Comfort 35ii’s at my local thrift for $32.

Then right next to them was a pair of Bose Quiet Comfort 35i’s also for $32.

Both came with their original cases, six cords, micro usb etc. Snagged them both.

One of my better finds in a lonnnnnggggg time.

Found an AOC 12757fh gaming monitor for 24.99. Was a bit leary I may lose out on $24.99 but took a chance since I have a computer tower just sitting taking up space without a monitor. Very glad I did, thing works great.

Hooked it up with a Razr keyboard I found a good year ago and bam I got a nice PC for my wife and 7 year old to use!

Went to GW just cuz I was out, didnt have any of the overpriced game stuff anymore. Not sure if someone bought it or they moved it on. Shocked I found this for $9.

Mother... FRAGGER! I'm not in your area, but if I was, I'd be feeling a little murderous right now. I don't even care about the value. I just want to play that thing.

Wow PimpBot2000!!! What an incredible fine. I sold my only copy of that game on Amazon in 2012 when I was unemployed for $60 :( and was hoping on a future digital release someday (still waiting). Crazy how much the game is fetching now and more than Haunting Ground. I thought Haunting Ground was the better game.

But anyway not good as PimpBot2000 but I found another rare PS2 game for $2.

If you have a decent PC gaming rig look up PCSX2. I played it again (also Haunting Ground) back in 2017 Halloween with updated graphics (4K resolution) and patch using PCSX2.

Went to GW and the little thrift yesterday and this morning, not much getting donated recently. GW didnt even have anything way overpriced for me to laugh at! Just some glassware and woven basket sets I wouldnt have bought to begin with. Lady who is always working at GW when I go in said it was her last day, told me they had a $1700 purse get donated. I wouldnt even know what that was if I saw it hanging from a rack so it didnt really bum me out! I got the stuff pictured for $10 even after rounding up for some donation. Camera has an error but its either a dirty lense or needs a memory card according to the internetz, Sonic game works great, WSP cd is for my sister who is currently in NY for a 5 day concert from them.

I haven't been thrifting lately so your posts help scratch that itch

Yeah, I imagine the thrifting/flea market/yard sale threads are going to be pretty dead for the foreseeable future.
I'm in western NY and the Savers near me closed last Thursday, AMVETs on Walden was open this past Saturday but that should be closed now. The only sites I could see staying open would be the ones with some type of kitchen attached that feeds people. The retail operations should be shut down though. Hopefully this time in quarantine will give people time to put together some nice donation packages and there will be a glut of nice items hitting the thrift scene soon

Yeah, I'm definitely looking forward to getting back out there once things die down, though I'm definitely going to be leaving things in my car trunk for a few days after picking them up.

Goodwill is back open! A couple finds this week: Keurig K-Cafe for $20! I've made coffee and lattes and haven't had any issues.

Neat looking ESPN mug was $1.00
