So with PlayStation releasing two SKU's and being so coy on release date and pricing even though it's supposed to be out this year, I'm not the only one thinking that they're expecting Microsoft to undercut them price wise, right?

My thinking is they need the disc less one to get to $499. Granted I totally know that an optical drive that can play 4K UHD discs isn't much in the overall cost of things, but when you're selling millions of units everything adds up and the PS4 skipped out on that feature. My dream is both full featured consoles launch at $499, but I'm not sure after seeing that digital PS5.

I’m hearing that the Xbox Series X will have some new 4K HD-DVD drive instead of that crappy 4K Blu-Ray stuff.

Day. One.

I'm testing out a few Microsoft-published games that are on Game Pass to decide if I want to spend $5 on them as a part of the current sale since they might disappear from Game Pass at some point.

I've been trying to play Ori and the Blind Forest this evening, but the prologue is tedious as hell.  Can anyone explain why this game is so beloved by the gaming public?  The art and the animation are nice, but I'm already bored.  The last time that I had that feeling was when I played Old Man's Journey.  Also, does Ori and the Blind Forest have any replay value?

MS games don't leave Game Pass.

Screamride is one that will be leaving Game Pass.  Or it might already be gone.  I don't remember.

Well I can't understand the comparison to Old Man's Journey at all besides maybe they are 2D? It's a metroidvania though where you upgrade your abilities as the game progresses and there is some pretty interesting puzzles and intense sequences with that. Might just not be for you. I also don't think it's one you have to worry about disappearing anytime soon.

Seems that was some mistake, editor's update #1 from yesterday says it's not leaving GamePass.... how it got to this point though anyone's guess

I was in a car accident today (dope coming the other way turned left into me), and my car is likely totaled. Please help me convince my wife that now is the time to buy a mid life crisis car. Something like a Corvette or an M5.

The first ori game is better than the second. The second one is just more of the same, but with less polish to it.

In my prior residence, when my One S was set to 4k for menu options, I had power flickers while in-game. Set it back to 1080p, the problem went away, since displaying higher resolution content draws more load from hardware.

By "power flickers", do you mean the screen temporarily going black?  Because that sounds much more like trying to run 4K on an HDMI cable that doesn't fully support it than any power problem.  But if it was something else, never mind me.  :)

Tell her you're legally binded to get a Corvette because the logo is your profile picture on here. She doesn't want to end up in Cheap Ass Jails believe me.

Also glad you made it out unscathed.

I have to agree with the PS5 appearance haters, that thing is god-awful.  Horizon will eventually make it a must-buy for me, but it's telling that there was absolutely no date anywhere on that trailer, so I assume it's a 2022 title.

Unless there are other changes in between the 2 consoles, the discless version seems very dumb - I don't see how that would make more than a $20 difference in price.  But if there are other hardware cutdowns similar to Lockhart it could make sense.

The real question is, how is Nintendo going to survive the next three years. They just claimed that they see the life cycle of the Switch being 6 or 7 years, when the standard Nintendo console life cycle has been 4 or 5 years. As it is now, the Switch plays graphically downgraded versions of PS4 and Xbox One games. So, if the PS4 and Xbox One can't play these PS5 and Xbox Series X games, I don't see how Nintendo is going to have any third party support left once these consoles come out. Unless it gets weird versions of the same games, like how the 3DS would sometimes get games that had the same name, but were completely different.

Considering every store and internet store is sold out of Switch and Switch Lite consoles, I think Nintendo will be okay for a while. We have 2 Xbox ones and 1 Switch and 2 Switch Lites and I think a lot of people have a Xbox or PlayStation and a Switch or a PC and a Switch. My wife is in a couple mom groups for animal crossing and that game is super popular among moms, so I think Nintendo is gonna be okay.

The thing with Ori, in my opinion, is that you need to grab a couple of the powerups.  It doesn't take that long, but it's certainly beyond the point at which you get the first few achievements. I felt that initial boring feeling myself but I stuck with it and not long after was having fun.

Once the jumps turn from pressing A into pressing A+A+hold Y+Up and all sorts of combos, it's a blast. (mini pun  8-)

The Xbox Series X is giving me serious Xbox 360 vibes.  I'm probably going to have to buy 3 replacements when they red ring of death self destruct...  is what I'd say if I started jumping to conclusions based on nothing.

The newest Animal Crossing sold like 10 million digital copies.  They're selling an insane number of switches.  They'll release a Switch 2 at some point and people will buy it.  Nintendo is going to be fine.

Speaking of Animal Crossing, Minecraft Dungeons just dethroned it as best selling game!

Also Sea of Thieves with 41k concurrent players on steam is extremely impressive! I think Xbox will be just fine.

Yes, now I don't have to pull out the portable HD player for my 360 to watch my HD movies.

Tell her you want to buy a Harley and she'll settle for you getting your car unless of course she's looking to get an insurance payout. lol.

I like how Sony is getting a free pass for all the possible timed exclusives they just got.

Project Athia, Godfall, Deathloop, Ghostwire, Kena, Bugsnax, Little Devil Inside, Solar Ash, Oddworld, Jett, Goodbye Volcano High, and Stray.

Meanwhile the internet was on fire when Ms paid a year for tomb raider.

I am not a fan of the practice either way. Either first party exclusive or don't do it. I suppose it's good that Microsoft will eventually see the titles.

I thought the conference was good but nothing blew my mind. Lots of good games but the only ones that excited me were ratchet and clank, horizon and demon souls.

I think Microsoft is in pretty good shape as long as their July show nails it and they price competitively.

MS has more money than God and certainly more than Sony so really surprised to see them not go after more timed exclusives given their lack of first party games. Maybe they are using the savings on timed exclusives and putting it somewhere else like hardware R&D or getting us more games to add into Gamepass?

Luckily these timed exclusives are happening early in the generation when not many people will these consoles yet. We'll see how this pans out for the remainder of the generation.

The PS5 reveal was happening while I was working so I've only seen the console itself, RE VIII, and Demon's Souls. I think the console design is trash but by itself that doesn't mean a hell of a lot. No BC details really stuck out at this point since people are so curious about it and it's likely not in the same boat as the cutting edge new stuff.

Bethesda finally doing timed exclusives is just about the last straw as far as anti-consumer practices. Officially taking an extreme amount of caution for any releases from any of their studios now. They're just getting so over bearing with garbage attempts and squeezing maximum dollars.

I'm waiting with bated breath for the Xbox release of Final Fantasy VII Remake. Really want to play it but I don't buy PlayStation games anymore apart from [real] exclusives.
