Starting to agree with that...loved the first Red Dead Redemption, but quit RDR2 after 10 hours because I was just not having fun. Too much mundane gameplay/tasks, just made "playing" the game a chore. Really wanted to play it, but just couldn't continue.

After the first couple of hours of RDR2, I lost all interest in the game. Besides the world being so open I couldn’t decide what I should do next, everything I did do went wrong. Somehow I’d do something to get wanted by the law or after a long time of no action, some bastards would come up and surprise me and I’d die because I forgot how to fight. I did enjoy exploring and tipping my hat to people until someone shot me out of nowhere.
The last two AC games before Valhalla were fun though Odyssey was too big. I really enjoyed the Witcher but it’s such a huge game. I enjoy well crafted open world games but it seems like over the years they’ve gotten bloated in size, with tedious and unenjoyable content.

Not the best deal in my opinion, but for the next 7+ hours you can get the 1TB expansion drive for the Series consoles for 10% off at Newegg using coupon code 93XQY65 ($198 after coupon). Not going to post a link because my Newegg links always get broken when I post them here

Has this ever been on sale through MS yet?

Been a while since I've done one of these, so like this post to enter a drawing for winner's choice of Warzone or Fortnite. 2 winners will be drawn Tuesday evening. If WZ is chosen, a link will be sent to download and play for free. But if FN is chosen, a link will be sent to download and play for free. If this post gets to 50 likes I'll also give away Apex legends .

Any chance we will see an xbox handheld console? Seems like something that would pair well with xCloud and GamePass. I get that streaming to devices is where they want to be but it is just not there yet...for mobile connections anyway. Some way to download and play condensed games that since up with you console saves seems like a big win all around...

I dont think MS ever had any interest in a handheld console and doubt that has changed. Like you said they have xCloud which basically covers all of that. They lose money on every XBox they sell, why would they want another console to sell at a loss.

I would personally love to see this. Something that actually runs the code too, rather than just streaming.

It's more likely now than ever before, since many Xbox games are already designed to run on varying hardware levels (X1, X1X, XSS, XSX, etc). I certainly wouldn't put money on MS doing this, but it's definitely something I would want to see.

Because it's the only way they can break into the Asian market, particularly Japan. Imagine a portable Xbox One releasing in a decade that supports Game Pass. Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, Yakuza, Dark Souls, Resident Evil all non-streaming. Even Nintendo would feel the pressure being challenged on their home turf in their area of expertise: portables. But I'm sure MS has already crunched the numbers for how many Asian consumers would potentially adopt Game Pass, and they came up short when compared against the R&D costs for a new system, even though it shares the same foundation as existing hardware.

Edit: I can't believe I forgot Monster Hunter.

Very good points! I think that sticking to phones would be best for now though. For the simple fact that people are already carrying too many portable devices already.

You would most likely have to convince Asia to pick up Series Portable before leaving the house over Switch or even a 3ds, 2ds or Vita. Which would take a very aggressive ad campaign I would think.

Everyone has a phone though and Asia has very good internet speeds and top technology.

If Gamepass can put all of your favorite games in one place without the need of putting another 500 dollar system in your house, that could be a great win.(Especially if they could pull some magic and get DQ9 which is DS exclusive if I am not mistaken. Since there are more DQ rumors surrounding gamepass).

So as you said, instead of spending time and R&D making another system, they need to make Xcloud buttery smooth. It should and needs to be the best running streaming option out there for it to win people over. Hopefully the XSX blades are the first major step.

To just stream from your console, you just download the Xbox app and go under your library, then consoles, click on the console and select “remote play on this device”.

For xCloud, you’ll need to have been accepted into the beta. Should be able to check here to see if you are in it. Then follow the instructions there.

"Finished" my replay of Alan Wake + first playthrough of the DLC, other than raging and deleting the second one. What a mess of a game, and a perfect example of why I usually don't waste time with DLCs.

But man do I miss the 360 era. As annoyed as I got at some parts, I still had more fun playing through AW again than I have playing most of the games released nowadays. Something about uniqueness and subpar graphics instead of everything going open world and going for realistic graphics rubs me the right way.

I just started this for the first time last night and made it through episode 1. Really liking it and wished I would have played it 10 years ago - game pass is just awesome for this stuff, games you always wanted to get to but now can play it at the click of a button for free (in case I didn’t like it).

Played Last of Us for the first time last year before the 2nd came out and might be my favorite series of all time second only to mass effect. Gotta agree with you - story focused games that do it well are just my jam right now rather than 100 hours in a open world RPG (looking at you AC Vahalla).

I get that at some point it was probably a lot of R&D but MS already has some of the best portables on the market with the Surface line so it is not like they are starting from nothing.

Honestly, they probably would not have to do a lot more than have a download game option for their tablets and I would bite.

I tried streaming from a windows laptop in a hotel and it was not playable. Being able to play some of my games while on the go would be a big plus. I want streaming to work but it is just not there yet for me...even if it was, I would probably prefer a separate device with a larger screen anyway.

Could they bring back the Zune?  Make it into the ultimate touch device that isn't a phone.  Plays music, movies and video games, give it a port/accessory to hardwire into an ethernet line, and either allow connection to a controller or peripheral device that snaps around it (like they already have for other mobile devices).

If Microsoft made their own device, using it as a Xbox branded 'handheld' for on the go, this could be interesting.  The problem they had with Zune and their Phones was never having the right way of marketing it to a mass.  If they marketed as a mobile 'console' where the harddrive could store a few games, for on the go, while also having a system to connect to other devices, like a TV or linking to other Xbox products, it could be appealing as a portable console.

I would actually like to see a tablet have some way to hardwire into ethernet for game streaming options, since Cloud play doesn't work well at all on my WiFi.  A portable gaming tablet or smaller option could be a great option.  Imagine if they somehow designed games in the opposite direction of X-Enhanced.  This sounds backwards, but what if they downgraded some games to make them work on a simpler portable.  Instead of 60 FPS, it went down to 30.  Simpler graphics, less demand on the device, but this allows the device to perform the games in a smaller package.  You'd need some sort of compromise for a smaller/weaker device to make this work, but it would be neat if you could play the entire Halo: Infinite experience on tablet or touch device, made by Xbox, while traveling for work or on holiday, in your bedroom, or any other situation where a TV and system aren't an option.

Imagine having a portable Xbox tablet where you could use cables to system link with people in a car, on a train or plane, classmates at school, or at work in cubicles on break.  Play the cooperative campaign together, on mobile, then resume with cloud saves on your full Xbox system (sync your saves through WiFi, or connection with PC or Xbox system via USB).

Totally unlikely, I know.

Been a while since I've done one of these, so like this post to enter a drawing for winner's choice of Resident Evil Village or Mass Effect Legendary Edition.  2 winners will be drawn Sunday evening.  If RE is chosen, a code will be sent after the drawing.  If ME is chosen, the code will need to wait until release for the "buy as gift" option to become available.

The winners are Bryson and ToddManG.  Congrats!  I'll be sending a PM requesting which game you want.

I like this idea of a gaming tablet and sounds much more in line with Microsoft with the Surface tablets that it makes sense. At least much more than them thinking "Hey Sony didn't really hit it off with their handheld and Nintendo is seeing lower and lower sales of their handheld specific division, let's get into that market!" I want to believe at least a gaming based Surface is possible, but no where any time soon especially when the focus is on XCloud.

That is the most awkward hardware solution I think I've ever heard, take a Switch and then make it awful. That's larger than a Surface for a company all in on streaming. Fix your wifi.

I watched RE Village since I'm a big baby about scares, I did not expect it to go there or like that. There is a creature that make my wife and I both go silent for a moment the first time we saw it. I have definite questions but I know the answer will be hand-waved away.

Spoiler
