The PS5 reveal was happening while I was working so I've only seen the console itself, RE VIII, and Demon's Souls. I think the console design is trash but by itself that doesn't mean a hell of a lot. No BC details really stuck out at this point since people are so curious about it and it's likely not in the same boat as the cutting edge new stuff.

Bethesda finally doing timed exclusives is just about the last straw as far as anti-consumer practices. Officially taking an extreme amount of caution for any releases from any of their studios now. They're just getting so over bearing with garbage attempts and squeezing maximum dollars.

Same here. Got home and watched a quick recap of the reveal. A few of the games I liked, few were meh.

Then what I was waiting for... actual footage of the PS5.

With the Series X, it wasn't horrible.. reminded me of a Trashcan Mac Pro, but MS went square instead of round. It grew on me and now I kinda like it.

the PS5 however... ugly. Sure Astrobot is fun, but did they have to model the PS5 after the game? And those fins at the top are going to get broken off. Not a fan of the two tone scheme either.

I'm buying both the Series X and the PS5, at some point.. Series X will be first. The PS5 may be when there is a sale or a special edition with a better color scheme. Like an all black themed one..

I like how Sony is getting a free pass for all the possible timed exclusives they just got.

Project Athia, Godfall, Deathloop, Ghostwire, Kena, Bugsnax, Little Devil Inside, Solar Ash, Oddworld, Jett, Goodbye Volcano High, and Stray.

Besides Oddworld and Dinosaur High School, right now off the top of my head I couldn't tell you what any of those were for sure. I know Godfall for sure is an exclusive and man that continues to underwhelm. The real issue and one that will always be an exclusive is Demon Souls, some guy has a bunch of actual in game screen shots. It might have moved my needle since my One X will work for awhile anyway....

Hoping the Xbox event in July blows me away.

Otherwise I'll hold off until next year then I'll have enough Rewards points to cover the cost in full.

It’s interesting that they are designing them to stand up because I feel like most are designed for laying down devices.

Could be that way to maximize the amount of surface area exposed for heat dissipation.

I don't think that's wrong, there was plenty of rumors they were having heat issues with the PS5 earlier in the year way before the end times

I don't like the PS5 design in abstract, but I love that it's a non-single-color launch machine. I didn't see anything that I NEED. I love Spidey, Ratchet and Clank, but I can wait. I'm extremely curious the power consumption and heat. I thought MS did good with splitting the mobo to maximize the airflow. After the X1X I have a degree of trust with the cooling.

Did we know about the Sony digital sku before today?

I'm not surprised at some of the takes I'm seeing from Thursday afternoon. I barely expect some people to form whole sentences let alone run businesses.

The digital sku was a bit of surprise, it's one of those rare things that didn't even get really rumored about as far as I can remember. Since the only PS4 physical disc I own is a Skyrim VR it's probably going to be the version I go with. Call of Duty MW debacle is pointing out how worthless discs are to me personally. It will be interesting to see the pricing, is this how they bring one in at $499, and what does that mean for Series X pricing?

I kept hoping there would be more in the Sony presser to get me excited. I guess that is fine since I have enough I am currently not playing.

I am still watching and did they just show a game that said coming 2022? Seriously like WTF?

Surface area of what? They better have one big ass heatsink in there. Given that both next gen consoles will be running similar hardware components, there's no way that the ps5 will run quieter and cooler than the Series X and given how loud the ps4 was this needed ti happen for them to knock it out of the park. Give me function over form any day.

Blowing hot air upwards using a single large quiet fan cooling a vapor chamber is the most efficient method possible, much more so than trying to push air out the sides via small vents. Just simple physics. The ps5 devkit was using 6 fans in order to keep it cool because it had overheating issues. We need a complete hardware teardown of the ps5 like we got with the xbox.

Did anybody notice that two of the games had an extremely similar plot? The woman in the spaceship, and the man being hunted, are both about the main character being stuck in a time loop and dying over and over, and things changing each time that you revive. I'm hoping that this is a case of great minds think alike, and that they aren't one note and gimmick-y.

I’m hearing that the Xbox Series X will have some new 4K HD-DVD drive instead of that crappy 4K Blu-Ray stuff.

Day. One.

Can you elaborate on this? Do you have any links? 4k UHD bluray is currently the best format available or is MS coming out with a completely different format? I'm a noob when it comes to bluray media.

It's a joke referencing the Blu-Ray vs. HD-DVD war of the 360 and PS3 era.

What is the Call of Duty MW debacle on PS4? I picked up the PS4 Pro Call of Duty bundle during the Black friday sale last year. I did not notice any problems with the Call of Duty game.

Probably that the install size of COD is now well over 200 GB so the disc is pointless

Ah ok.  I rarely purchase discs myself. I have 6 disc games for PS4. Almost all of them are PlayStation exclusive games I purchased during Black Friday last year.  Sometimes I like to purchase a disc just to have the artwork though.

I think I'm losing my mind, but I trust somebody in here to know the answer to this: was Tetris Effect ever free at some point on PSN? Perhaps as an accident briefly or something? I fired up my PS4 for the first time in forever recently to start God of War, and Tetris was in my library. Downloaded it, played a few levels, and it seems like ... the full game. But I have no recollection of buying it.

Again, I know this is the Xbox thread, but ... this ringing any bells?

I had the disc for a while.  Don't see it in my digital library on PSN.

I won't be surprised if they abandon the all-digital SKU much like the PSP Go, or the PS3 models without wifi, in favor of the more premium model, since I'm guessing the majority of people will want the disc model.

The host is annoying but this video sums it up well. I feel bad for folks who spent $150 on these things:

They also, like Microsoft, have said nothing about price or date. Definitely a cat and mouse game between the two.

Same with the games. We only know that it's packed in with one game and Spiderman is out in the holiday (assuming launch) .

As for Microsoft we know they have acquired and invested in a lot of studios but they still might be years off so we don't know how big our launch is gonna be either.

Good thing our backlogs are huge and the titles will be enhanced for series X.

Yesterday my power for a few hours went out after I got to a save point in Deliver Us The Moon and decided to turn off my XBox.

Microsoft said recently that Halo Infinite is still on track for Holiday 2020. If they pack in some free months of Game Pass Ultimate, they can market that Halo Infinite plus 100+ other games come with the Series X “free” at launch.

Unfortunately I made the wrong choice as well. I was like oh I'm going HD-DVD all the way screw Sony and their Blu-ray I don't want to support them.

Well I chose the wrong side when it came to movie format but I'm still winning with team Xbox lol

I'm still looking to expand my HD-DVD collection.  For a while my local Half Price Books was s good source of the discs for ~$3 but that well has long since dried up.

I bought one of these with like 20 HD-DVDs for super cheap from Circuit City when they were on the verge of going under.  6 months later blu-ray won the war so I sold the whole package on craigslist for more than I paid.

I had a lot of HD-DVDs and PSP UMD movies years ago. I sold them all off a long time ago. I knew I would never use them and needed the space, which has since filled back up with games.
