The slim model uses about 50% less power (180w vs 90w) which probably contributed to fixing the heat issues, but otherwise yes, it was pretty functionally the same.

The 360 was a great example of process node shrinks because it went through multiple revisions shrinking different parts.

Xenon (Launch model) - 90nm CPU and GPU (massive RROD issues)

Falcon - 65nm CPU and 80nm GPU

Jasper - 65nm CPU and GPU

Trinity (360 Slim) - 45nm combined CPU/GPU

I skipped a few for brevity, and there were more revisions after this (e.g. Xbox 360E), but they never went smaller than 45nm on the 360.

They also added HDR support and a bit more power (terraflops).  And got rid of the external power supply.  Also 4K BluRay drive which I actually used sometimes.

She was talking about the 360, not the XB1.

CD Keys has 3-month Game Pass for $20.29 which will turn into 2-month GPU (or better if you can trigger the auto-renew bonus).  That's about $10/month GPU which is decent.

Sorry, I agree there will be a hardware revision, but I predict it will be more like the Xbox 360 revisions where it had slight changes but nothing major and not the Xbox One -> Xbox One X style revision.

The Xbox 360 was pretty much the same in terms of power and parts throughout the life cycle, they just made revisions to fix the heat issues.

I don't think there is much to put that cat back in the bag. If were literally talking about releasing a Series X version and a much lower powered "Lockhart" version at launch we have that exact situation right away. I don't love the idea, but since it's just basically PC gaming at this point they've been scaling for system specs forever so it can be done.

Thanks I missed that.  Even bigger improvements over the 360 revisions IMO.  HDMI was added at some point as was built in wifi.  And as you mentioned the original had the RROD.

Sweet, thanks for the heads up! Glad I hesitated buying them every time they're on sale.

Guess I am going all digital for PS5 because those game boxes are terrible looking with the white stripe at the top.

For this gen I prefer the slimmer XB1 cases to the PS4 cases with the flimsy disc hub (hard to get a game shipped without a loose disc), but XB1 games look so ugly on the shelf with the grey spines.  Why can't we have a good looking case that isn't a piece of junk?

This is a completely different episode. This pic is from The Abstinence episode and he is telling Derek Jeter, "in 6 games."  Shrinkage is from the Hamptons episode.

I may have met my match with Seinfeld knowledge I still watch it in syndication to this day. Favorite show of all time!

On topic, I’m hoping perhaps unrealistically for a $400 Xbox Series X I just hope to God that they in no way change the way game sharing works. I’m also hoping for a huge announcement regarding adding a huge amount of missing games to the BC library. Do I ever play them? No. But I certainly want to buy them on sale

You just unlocked flashbacks in my brain to the craziness of everyone on this forum looking for the Jasper 360 to avoid the inevitable RRoD. Thank you?

I do not miss the 360 RROD days. I think I'm on my 3rd 360 and have my younger brother's console in storage, just in case mine goes the way of the dodo.

I also jumped into this console generation late with the VCR Xbox One (Fallout 4 Bundle) and then traded that in towards a X1X. My in-laws have an X1S and it gets the job done when visiting, but my X1X is wonderful.

Going into this next console generation, my plan is to hold back until the next version comes out and see how the markets settles. I think there will inevitably be smaller, faster, sleaker models. And if I'm proved wrong, then I can save some $$$ while waiting

Edit: Spelling

There won’t be smaller models. People need to understand that.

Saints Row 2 killed two of my Xbox 360s I'm almost afraid to boot it up on my Xbox X.

I have a Gears 3 360 and my original Xbox saved. However when the series x is out im dumping my Xbox x. Doesn't seem to be any reason to have one as a backup once the new systems are out.

I really think that the more expensive models will have disc drives and backwards compatibility, and the cheaper (most likely disc-free versions) will have no backwards compatibility to speak of.

You'd still have digital games. I'd be shocked if they release a digital only console with how much they promote BC. If Lockhart is happening, it'll be cheaper because of the lesser specs, not a $10 disc drive.

Considering they're engineering everything with backwards compatibility in mind from the start and Game Pass being so intricate to their offerings and more then likely sharing similar offerings with the One with Game Pass, that doesn't make allot of sense.

I had the white 360 with HDMI, the first model with HDMI I believe and bought it new maybe late 2007. Got a RRoD maybe 4 or 5 years later but ordered a kit online for like $20 to replace the heat sink clip system with nuts/bolts, cleaned it out good, and it fired right back up for years until I finally sold it about 2 years ago (regrettably) with some downsizing because it stayed in storage for years. I was never a heavy gamer but it got used for years (and I would occasionally find a game that got played heavily so it didn't just sit) with little issue and a simple one time fix.

Got my OGXB maybe in 01 or 02, played it all through college and traded it in (less regrettably since that clock cap would have done it in during storage) right after buying my 360. Never had a single issue.

I hear all these horror stories about system issues so either I have had really good luck or people treat their systems like trash...

Had one of the original PS1s and never had to flip it or any issues (regrettably sold it in a yard sale after  having my OGXB for a while)

Had a PS3 FAT BC 80GB with wifi that mostly got used as a BD player and probably never ran a PS1 or PS2 game. Dropped it while in storage a few years back, it busted open and I tossed it (regrettably). It was heavily used for movies but not so much games, never had an issue and breaking it was my fault.

The moral here is either I have golden horseshoe when it comes to consoles or people with issues treat them like they are disposable....more importantly, I should never sell my stuff because I always want it again years later.

Saying there's a no back compat box means you're just not paying any attention. If you can play it now, the goal is you will always be able to from this point forward. They stopped mucking around with different formats and are actually making it like a PC where specs change but it runs. Consoles were doing magic tricks with their tech that nobody else needed. We don't need magic anymore when engines rule the day.

Any thought of a smaller model has to consider the cooling fan. The dimensions are based off of that fan. A new design will require new cooling. They can do it, see X1X getting smaller, but it's going to take a thermal breakthrough along the lines of splitting the mobo in half like they're doing. It's like saying there's going to be a PS6. Eventually, sure. Don't hold your breath.

I went through 3 original Xboxes, only one RROD so 2 360s, and my day 1 VCR still works, although it hasn't been used for like a year now. Still have a 20gb BC PS3 that I keep around for PS1 fighters. I hate that it doesn't have wifi.

I was all set to Like your post, then you had to go and spell "a lot" incorrectly right at the end. :/ Shame.

As cool as that sounds, it just wouldn’t be the same as watching him as an adult. What a tremendous antagonist.

I personally didn't care for the story or characters in FC3 at all, but getting Gus Fring as a bad guy sounds great.

They had so much promise, but ended up being so one-dimensional. No character development, very cartoonish villains.

At least some of the NPCs were entertaining.

I just hope they bring the outpost system from New Dawn into 6, such a great evolution of the system with the difficulty increasing.
