GameStop Exclusive (?) - Tiger Handheld Games (Sonic, Xmen, Little Mermaid, Transformers) - $15 Each

Whoa, are you serious? I loved these things as a kid. Hopefully the battery or internals have improved. I'm gonna have to grab one or two. Thanks.

The only way Sonic 3 will ever be rereleased
I'd be fine if they replaced the music just to get Sonic 3 on Switch.

I had the original Tiger handheld back in the day. They were overall, alright at the time.

I wouldn't call them bad, especially when if you were poor like me and couldn't afford a gaming PC/Mac in the 90s.

In for the Transformers one. Never had X-Men but would always see it advertised in various Marvel comics back in the '90s.

Nothing screams "my parent's won't buy me a Game Boy" more than these during recess.
Lol I actually told my parents that after I got this i would not need a Gameboy. Come Christmas this was no longer being used and I had a Gameboy. Although I still have the Castlevania Simon's Quest one sitting right on my desk as I type this.

Yeah, look. They had their place. I don't even think Tiger's handheld games were as good as Nintendo's Game and Watch series, but when you don't have much money, any port in a storm is inviting. I spent a lot of time with the pinball back in the 1980s. I also thought some of the licenses were hilarious... did you know there was an MC Hammer game where you had to dance along with him? Oh yes, that happened. (Mute the video if you value your ears and/or sanity.)

The question is, is there room for these in 2020? Considering that you can get an Android phone for chump change and play much more advanced software, probably not. It's going to be a nostalgia thing for the gamers who grew up with these, but they'll be laughed off by post-millennials.

Little known fact, there's a CV: SOTN tiger handheld and it goes for stupid amounts of money.

They're a good match for an increasingly archaic business.

There were a lot of these I never heard of. I was only interested in the Sega/Nintendo type licensed ones at the time. I'll probably get the Sonic 3 version.

Yeah, I can't see anyone that started with a Game Boy Advance SP as their first handheld wanting any of these. I honestly don't expect people that grew up rich and/or after the 90s to have any interest at all in these.

I was born in the late 70's, grew up in the 80's and early 90's, and was pretty damn poor. My cousins were the ones that got the Gameboys and Gamegears, while I was stuck with these pieces of crap. I had a few of these as a kid and would never buy them today.

These should have been market tested as Christmas tree ornaments first. I too do not remember these fondly. I’m still waiting for a credit card sized Solar powered Gameboy-mini! :)

I had Power Rangers one (which was OK for the day) and a 101 Dalmations one (pretty fun and simple). I would never go back to play these again. Very basic, clunky (even with one button) and became repetitive quickly. I got a Gameboy late, so these were good for before that.

I dunno .. I had great memories with friends playing Atari 2600 games, even to this day, just for fun, just for laughs.  So - TO EACH THEIR OWN!

My friends all grew up in the Tiger Electronics era.  Nobody speaks about those games anymore .. it's like it's a dirty topic.

Growing up I had Nintendo, one of my friends had Tiger Electronics.  On a sleepover at his place, all we did was play those shitty handhelds.  Whack-a-Mole is fun for a few minutes.  Imagine playing it for hours.

The cover art is way cooler than the actual game.  Nail 'em to a wall for decoration.  Everyone will be happy while they play some more '2600.

I found a Mega Man II and Land Of the Lost tiger handhelds at savers a couple years ago. The cool part was that whoever donated them had keep the cardboard backing from the original packaging and the manuals. I didn't even remember these coming with manuals

What they should have done was make current gen games in the same mode as the old handhelds....

Red Dead Redemption 2!

GTAV

Minecraft

WoW

Halo

... and of course...

SKYRIM!!!

I had a couple of these growing up, Mega Man 2 and bowling, and I enjoyed them fine. Instead of releasing carbon copies, they should have created updated versions that honor the original visions while reflecting gameplay more suited for 2020

I think I had baseball, bowling, and some mouse maze chase after cheese with a hidden cat chasing after you at random spots that was surprisingly fun at the time, and scared the heck out of you when the cat pounced on you.  Heart attacks for kids.

If there was a giant collection of all of the ones ever made, for $5 on Switch, I would maybe consider getting it just to have it. As it is, I've replayed a couple via emulation and they were bad in their time and worse now.

I knew a kid once who asked for a Sega Game Gear for his birthday, but wound up with two of these pieces of crap instead. His parents were like, "Ok! Here's you're "game gear"!"

Poor kid. I had a couple of these handhelds, but I did get a Game Gear around the same time. It was nice to have color and a backlight, but I enjoyed the games I purchased for the Game Boy Pocket I bought later. I didn't have all that much for Game Gear, though. Mostly Sonic games and NBA Jam (which was kind of crappy on a handheld).

I never viewed tiger games as "replacements" for the actual console/pc releases of games. Even as a kid, I always viewed them as a novelty/merchandise item, like owning a sonic 3 t-shirt or collecting baseball cards of your favorite players. I hope they make more of these!
