hey it's been awhile cag! with everything going on and so much free time I figured I'd stop back in. anyone from the old days still active and around? this community has gotten so big!! that's so awesome. Miss the days of cCC clearance and the great Wii hunt lol.

what are some of your best memories that CAG helped create??

I joined in 2009, if that's still considered OG.

The biggest thing I remember here was the Houseparty thing that Sony did around 2011 or so.  Tons of free PlayStation games + merch in exchange for doing almost nothing.  An amazing promo that I would have never known about without CAG.

2005 here. Man CC Clearance?! Brings back some memories! Houseparty? Hell yeah. Back in the day CC Guitar Hero clearances were sweet too.

It's a bit sad seeing how inactive this place has become, but I think that's likely the case for most "old-fashioned" forums like this.  Loads of people have moved on to Reddit and other sites.  I'm guilty of doing the same.  But I also haven't done nearly as much gaming over the last couple of years due to kids and work (as well as a stronger focus on board games) so following game deals hasn't been nearly as important to me as it used to be.  In the last few years, I have spent less money on video games than I would normally spend in only a month or two back in the day.

Certainly clearance sales like the ones CC had with hugely cheap games won't happen in today's retail environment. And this is also why Best Buy for the most part has stopped doing printed ad is to stop sales info from getting leaked out early.

yeah this forum has gone down the drain. I think bb killing off gamers club is partially responsible. I miss visa checkout deals. their birthday coupons suck now too, with pretty much everything good being excluded. I fondly remember those moving coupons from the post office lol

To be fair the Gamer's Club was a loss leader for Best Buy to get foot traffic in the door. Once Best Buy saw it wasn't really doing what they expected they pulled it. That and game publishers especially the big ones did not like having their games being discounted like that right away. To me as I posted earlier I feel that the ad leaks really put the nail in the coffin for CAG. Even if most of the time within the last few years there wasn't much for huge sales beyond the occasional B2G1 free ones that Target has or some random game it still gave heads up so people could prepare (outside of around November/December when the real sales happen).

And... Best Buy also pulled Gamers Club so they could introduce Total Tech Support.

Also the death of Circuit City made Best Buy lax off on running huge sales. As much as I know some of the CAG community hated Circuit City due to the Speedy1961 debacle... you can't deny that Circuit City going under eventually lead to where we are now.

That alone with the new social media culture of the likes of Twitter and Reddit pretty much turned CAG into the grave yard it has become. Message forums just aren't the hot thing any more beyond maybe a few I frequent (ie: XDA Developers). But when I see threads that used to be hopping around here ten years ago now lucky to get 1-2 posts within a month... that tells me that CAG's life isn't for too much longer in my eyes. I can't imagine Cheapy D wanting to keep paying to run these forums when they aren't being used as much these days.

I remember CC clearance. I also remember the Gamestop or whatever it was early morning online release of used games. I got a ton of Gameboy games and some PS RPG games. I also remember a lot of great posts in this thread or threads like it. Things about poop, glitter, and everything in between, I suppose. The only thing that can make this forum great again is for people to post here instead of Reddit, etc.

I am still here.  I check in daily!!  Life has changed in regards to games and forums.  Been on here since 2003!!

CAG for life, 2008 or so, helped take my 400 count game collection to over 3500 titles now. My best memories were the BBY coupon free games and B2G1 free $60 game glitches. Any hunts for penny strat guides and amiibos were the best. RIP Gamers Club!

Don't get on here much either, get it all on FB now, make sure it's the first thing I see. Listen to the CAGcast every week.

Got me beat by a few months. I’m also still checking in every day or so, I still remember the heyday when the forums were so busy there’s be pages and pages of unread posts in just a few others. Also, there was a pretty decent amount of regulars but they’ve mostly evaporated as well. I also remember when we’d kill an OTT thread in a couple hours or less (back with the 500 post limit).

Marriage, kids, and as someone else mentioned, Reddit. Just not as much time in the day anymore even while being shut-in. Man, to think, I started on CAG before YouTube even existed, when Netflix was still just sending discs in the mail.

Yessir, back then we chiseled our witticisms into wooden posts, spaced evenly across the land...that’s why they call ‘em that now, see. Most folks don’t know that.

Then, some dad burn fools would go off and make threads announcing how they was “leaving the site for good.” *snort*

Ill just post in here to reminisce as well. My fondest memories were of the Marketplace transactions, everyone was always great! That is how I got a hold of one of the HP TouchPads when they got flushed out (the thing only died last November). I still check the site every couple of days, but the traffic is a shadow of what once was.

I do miss the DeepDiscountDVD sale frenzys and the near open warfare with FatWallet...

Also got a Touchpad from somebody on here back when. I tried to pick it up again and make use of it last year, but the thing is so old and underpowered that it's not really worth the effort.

Holy crap I completely forgot about the Great TouchPad Scramble. Those were some crazy times.

Also I remember winning a Winning Eleven 7 bundle from CAG that Cheapy ran waaaaaaaay back in the day. Holy crap, like 2004?
