Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition 49.94 @ Amazon

Crazy this game is only going to be 720p docked and lower obviously in handheld...... what generation is this again???
Not crazy at all, it's the same resolution as Xenoblade Chronicles 2 which looked amazing.

Also it's a pretty big step up in graphics, resolution, audio, and likely load time and many other things over the original release.

XC2 has horrendously bad graphics quality of environments.

That said, a low resolution on this game is expected. This is designed for a handheld console. It's still a great game and I look forward to revisiting it.

Wasnt people knocking on the witcher 3 for its high price vs pc, ps4 console?
Yes.. but I also feel like it looks worse than the lowest settings on a PC, resolution or not. But I'm pretty sure the cost of the game is due to it being the largest Switch cart, isn't it?

To be fair, porting Witcher 3 to the Switch was far more ambitious than porting a polished up Wii game. When you consider it included all the DLC as well, the price is slightly more justified.

I was considering ordering this but watched some videos and remembered I didn’t really enjoy the game on wii all that much.

I never got into XC2 on switch (the art, character, voice acting, plot) didn't catch my attention in the first 2 hours so I think I will pass on the original until it's on sale... (I couldn't finish FFXV on PC either for reference, but enjoyed Octopath... im old)

Side comment: EU has the better collector edition for the "die-hard" fans. Hopefully someday we can just buy digital and order the extras on the side.  :D/

XC2 was amazing. I thought the game was fine the first few hours but once it opens up and you are more free to do things at your own pace everything kind of clicks. On a side note though, I couldn't stand Octopath's art, characters, plot... etc... and I'm also old. So YMMV.

I haven't played XC2 yet and really don't have much of a desire to because XCX's lack of a coherent story, weebo anime style, and overly heavy collect-athon gameplay ruined the game for me. Though using the mechs to just explore and fight was awesome, progressing the game for better mechs and whatnot felt arduous. I want to give XC2 a shot but most everything I've seen has pushed me away from it.

But I agree with you on Octopath. The game was well received so I figured I'd give it a try. After 20 hours, I'm wondering what the fuck people are smoking. It's like playing 8 mini-stories, with 8 very uninteresting/cliche'd/cookie-cutter characters and stories, with a broken game design. I really do like the combat but the way the game is set up, you basically have to grind because the character that you start with is locked (wish I knew that when I started) so you'll have one over-leveled character which is what the the enemy levels are based on and potentially 1 to 3 under-leveled characters. And the visuals style is so overpraised. The retro graphics are a nice touch and look good at a standstill but the heavy use of particle effects ("shiny" snow or "glittery" sand), fog/mist, or darkness to hide most of the environment completely kills any appeal it could have had (guessing without those effects, there's a lot of slowdown otherwise).

XC2 kinda sucks for the first few hours. Almost put the game down but I pushed through and the game gets a lot better once the world opens up and you get used to the combat system.

XC2 is full on story from the start and just gets deeper the more you progress. It is a bit of a collect-a-thon but so are most RPG's. In this case it's about getting different side characters called blades and leveling them up and then pairing them with the main character and others that join you during the journey. I think all or at least most of the blades have their own side story which was pretty interesting to explore. XCX, I need to play it (bought it and XC 3DS after playing XC2)... but it's kind of the black sheep of the series as they changed the formula a great deal. I wish there was a demo for XC2 as I only bought it on a whim because it ticked a lot of boxes (open world, hybrid action rpg, & deep story) and I had the Amazon Prime discount at the time. What a joy that turned out to be. I almost passed on it because some initial feedback seemed to lean negative.

Octopath, yeah... I think we are in sync there. The battle system, I actually liked the battle system. That's my main praise for it. Everything else kind of fell short for me. The game world being narrow paths and not feeling like there was the freedom to explore kind of put me off.

The game world being narrow paths
That describes FF7 remake for me in a nutshell... but I still enjoyed the nostalgia and combat system greatly. Octopath spirtes and music reminded me enough of FF6 for me to struggle thru the non-interaction of the characters throughout the standard story.

I also hate filler episodes in anime so to me Chronicles feels like a filler RPG I would have definitely played back in the day, but now don’t have the time :( I loved Xenogears on PSX but lost interest in the Blades+.. might be the sprites! (I am skipping Trails of Mana launch as well.. mostly because I played that and FF5 on an emulator in college)

I'm really feeling it! Put my pre-order in. Now just gotta sell my Wii version on ebay.

And to whoever's talking crap about Xenoblade X for Wii U: shut it. That game is amazing.

I tried to get Best Buy to price match it but they say it's not the same game.  No matter what evidence I showed them, they insisted I was wrong.  Good Luck if you try.  In store it would have been easy as showing them my phone, but the online price match is terrible.

I tried the same thing and they told me they can’t price match preorders. Complete fucking morons.

How does Chronicles compare to the expansion for XC2? I’ve heard good things about it.

What struck me looking at gameplay videos for this remaster is that the games fundamentals (love design, mmo-style gameplay, etc) seem pretty dated, beyond the graphical boost. In all honesty, I never played a ton of the game when I had it on the Wii, but does it get significantly better in the late game levels? Seems like most people either love 1 and hate 2 or vice versa. I really like 2, so thinking of going with the DLC over this for now.

It's their policy. It's always been that way and always will be. Just like the item has to be in stock to price match it. No one else will price match out of stock or pre order prices.

Maybe they aren't the morons.

Well, smart guy, according to their site, they automatically price match at time of shipment. And hey! Whatddya know? My shipment went out today and was charged full price.

So maybe they are morons. I’m just gonna return it then, all they’re doing is wasting my time.

Are asking about comparing XC2 and Torna?

In terms of gameplay and battle design, the torna dlc is actually the best of what XC2 does. Overall I think Torna is pretty worthwhile. But if someone doesn't like Torna, then don't even bother with XC2.

Just so you know, there explanation had nothing to do with preorders. I won't even bother to explain it to you since you know everything already. Have fun.

Can you get back some kind of credit for late shipments?
Normally yes, but amazon pretty much canceled prime shipping for all but “essential” stuff for the past 2 months.
And besides when you ordered it stated up front it would not be shipped/delivered until June 2nd. So amazon has not lied or delayed our orders yet to even complain in the first place.

I ordered mine the day it listed at 49.94 to match walmart, my order email shows June 2nd.

For what it's worth, I had a similar problem with amz not shipping my Works Set.  I think most preorders were hit with the slow shipping stick.  But since it was back in stock, I cancelled the preorder and reordered to get a faster delivery date.  I did this yesterday and it's out for delivery today.  Sadly this won't work well for people who preordered the SE @ $49 since you'll have to reorder at $59 (unless they pm walmart again soon).

I price matched on Bestbuy and it said release date delivery, shipped but there's no set delivery date.

I've been getting lots of non-essential things with two-day Prime shipping over the past month.

They don’t guarantee the two days for prime. They are prioritizing essential stuff first, some things I’ve ordered have shown up in 2 days while other stuff has been delayed weeks at a time.

Mine showed up Saturday, but I preordered when this first was listed on Amazon... not when it dropped to $49.94.  Also, I'm not prime... so quite surprising to see it packed and shipped so fast.

Last time I pre-order from Best buy. Supposed to arrive on release day and not getting it until Thursday.

Mine was supposed to be there on release day too. It arrived today (which I was ok with), but it has a slit mark/dent on the side and front of the case as happens at least 40% of the time I order Switch games from there. I wonder if the same happens with Amazon. Sucks when it's a full-priced title.

Mine was from Amazon, it came in one of the white plastic bubble envelopes... no damage. I've never had a game damaged like that from Amazon.
