Gamestop Flash Sale 6/24-6/25, Buy any new game $29.99+, and get 50% off any pre-owned game

Not the worst deal if you actually wanted something like the (supposedly rough) Spongebob remaster and another higher-priced game. Threw it in my cart along with FFVII Remake, total was a little over $60 shipped. I'm sure you could return the SB game in store even you wanted to (and it sounds like you'll probably want to).

If you could get more than 1 game discounted, it might have been worth it, but it's already a crap shoot when you buy a "new" game, as well as when you buy a retro game, and it's just not worth it for me

I've been thinking about picking up Animal Crossing... maybe I'll give this sale a shot. Animal Crossing + used Xenoblade Def, would work out to about $88. I wonder if I can use my monthly PUR code, which would also help.

Nevermind on that plan, no stores within 100 miles of me have Xeno Def pre-owned. Also checked if any store had AC pre-owned, nope.:whistle2:

So best scenario has you (in a way) get a free NEW $30 game with the purchase of a newer PRE-OWNED game that you really want ($55 - LOU2, Animal Crossing, etc.).

It is extremely likely you wouldn't be able to return the new game without returning the pre-owned game as well.

Looks like this works with pre-orders as well. So if you were thinking of pre-ordering something like Paper Mario it's a nice bonus.  Nevermind, misread something in my cart. Doesn't work with pre-orders.

FFVII is probably the best pre-owned title available online to get with this deal. If you locked in 2x 48.11 Amazon TIV, it would be a mediocre flip!

And yea, I also considered Spongebob - looks ok graphically, but the reviews were terrible. :oldman:

I considered that but it's MSRP and the $10 Tetris DLC is on the cart which is annoying for a F2P download game that's meant to be played in short bursts.

Right. It's MSRP but on two items that almost never go on sale, and you need to buy something new to get the deal.

My rationale for paying $10 for Tetris is not that it's a free to play game with $10 DLC, rather it's a $10 game that has a limited free trial. Also, it's Tetris. I cannot even vein to count the number of times I've bought Tetris....

Doesn't work with pre-orders. =(

I wanted to get Paper Mario Origami King (which for some reason I thought was already out -- but it's not) and something used.

Oh well.

Oh goodness ... That didn't even occur to me! What have I done??
I rolled the dice and ordered one with Tokyo mirage sessions, but I have had terrible luck with GameStop so I will likely get screwed. Debating doing another order with ni no Kuni and Pokemon sword to play the DLC

Came to mention the same option. Yes it is MSRP but if paired with a good pre-owned game it's worth it. I realized that this work with ANY pre-owned game, including some of the really high priced retro games. I wound up getting $40 off a retro game by basically buying a year of Nintendo online. I'll take it.

I bought Mario and Sonic at the 2020 Olympic Games for $39.99 and got Zelda: Link's Awakening for about $27. Two games for 35 + tax works for me.

I never played Spongebob when it came out like 15 years ago but reviews were okay. I think they mostly just upgraded the graphics and were too lazy to improve much else. Paired with Snipperclips for the Switch for $40.

I went with :switch: Minecraft as it'll still probably trade in to amazon for $20 or so down the road. (on cooldown atm!)

My guess is these flash sales will deplete overall inventory of pre-owned that nothing good will be available for the pro-day on Saturday

Does this not apply to new digital games? Just tried to buy a digital
code for Animal Crossing along with a used copy of Witcher III, and I’m not seeing any discount :(
EDIT: yup, the instant I change the order in my cart from a digital copy of Animal Crossing to a physical one, the used copy of Witcher III gets slashed in half. Bummer.
Edit for clarity: what I wanted to do was buy a NEW DIGITAL game, and get a discount on a USED PHYSICAL game. The wording of the sale “all new SOFTWARE $29.99 and up” made it seem like that would work, but it turns out it doesn’t. I usually prefer to buy digital for convenience, but a game like Witcher III I wouldn’t mind having on a cart, especially because they managed to fit all the data into the cartridge itself.

Is this Online Only? I ask because the online store is pretty dumb in that if an item is out of stock(maybe this applies to just new) online, you can't do a in store pick up.

I hate to be that guy, but did anyone try returning the "new" game? I wanted to get SpongeBob for this deal but it wasn't available for pickup. Might try to do an exchange.

Someone talk me out of this.

In my cart: jedi fallen order ps4 35$

Links awakening switch $27.50

free shipping

total after tax is like $68

I am not going to play either of these for probably years, I have a backlog that is just silly, can probably pick up fallen order for under $20 at black friday, under $10 in a year from now.  Link's awakening will still be there, I still have to finish breath of the wild and mario odyssey.

Fallen Order will be $10 before you know it. EA games drop pretty quickly. Link's Awakening eventually it will likely be $50 new haha. I would just wait, but I don't try to buy things I wont get to in years because they will get cheaper for the most part.

That's part of the reason why I'd avoid the hell out of this deal. Because if they send you an opened copy with a "new" sticker on it, or worse, just a generic case, and you try to return it as new, you know damn well, suddenly it stops being "new" in the eyes of the employee that you are trying to do the return for.

What I did in the past for switch games was to use the b2g1 free with elite pro, did that for zelda breath of the wild, xenoblade 2, mario odyssey and others. But my elite pro is long expired and they no longer do elite pro.

I think my best bet is to wait for black friday. Or at least some sale on switch items. Literally all of the first party switch games stay at 60$ msrp. I'll wait for now

I’ve been waiting forever for that to be under $30 lol. I’ve waited so much might as well wait till black friday

I wanted to preorder paper mario origami king and get last of us 2 preowned 50% off but gamestop does not have last of us 2 for sale preowned only new.

I don't understand the hype, it's a $20 game at best (if you are a huge SW fan). Play the Force Unleashed games, story and plot make more sense anyway. If you have a backlog, then I suggest work on it and wait for the $10 sale...maybe $20 if you really want to and no backlog. Better SW games out there imo.

Not a huge Star Wars fan but I’ve been hearing it’s good and a somewhat hard game. My backlog is huge and it’d be wise for me to wait till Black Friday assuming it’s $20 or below and if it’ll be compatible with PS5

won't know if I'm getting a gutted/code-less Tetris 99 until Monday...
Mine arrived today. Open case, not even resealed. Did have the code booklet inside. Guess I need to test it.

Does anyone know if nintendo / eshop gives you a confirmation screen after entering a code and before adding the contents to your account? I know psn and MS do, just unsure about eshop. TIA.

I was excited for the sale when I saw it on the website thinking it was half-off prenowed games up to 30....even added one to my cart  and was like why is it not showing as on sale.

Just got mine as well, Tetris was opened but the code was inside and luckily the code worked. Mine wasn't resealed with the sticker either. For me when I redeemed it had an option for what I wanted to use for auto renew, if you don't select anything and just exit it shouldn't redeem the code.

Pretty annoyed as the case is relatively beat up, definitely not what you expect with a "new" game but at least the code worked I guess. The other game I got (Tokyo Mirage Sessions) came with cover art and unredeemed coins so not a total loss. Have a Ni No Kuni and YS VIII coming next week, hopefully both are complete. But I won't be putting any more orders in with Tetris that's for sure.
