I miss the old Newefg clearances. Stocking up on cheap games and headsets was handy.

I think one of my last purchases from them was release date Assassin's Creed Liberation on Vita then I didn't play it for years, yay backlog, then when I finally did I was supremely underwhelmed lol. Although I do remember they used to have discounts for buying many games at release date and that was super tempting especially before GCU was a thing.

Yeah you would order games with coupon codes. I know I got a few games that way.

For several years Newegg was my go to place for games. Probably haven't ordered anything from them in 3+ years now.

Mood. They used to have fairly regular deals on physical console games.

Having a "clearance" sale digital goods is honestly just idiotic...

New Egg is the online equivalent of Frys in many ways ... lots of purchases in the past, but losing more and more relevance with every passing season.

So .... this is all digital and not very much of a discount? I’m gonna take a pass here.

Aren't they owned by someone else now? And that coincided with their decline?

NewEgg is cracked and rotten.

Correct. "In 2016, Liaison Interactive (SZSE: 002280), a Chinese technology company, acquired a majority stake in Newegg in an investment deal."

Newegg at least has stock. Fry's has nothing, and they need to just shut down at this point.

The crazy thing is that this change happened in less than a two year period, as I went into Fry's at the end of 2018/beginning of 2019 and they still had lots of stock... then I went 4-5 months ago and they had barely anything on the shelves.

Seriously an end of an era, for these computer retailers/retailers (thanks Amazon for fucking us again).

Fry's is a dead zone for sure. I used to love going to see their rather wide Computer Parts/HW/Blurays and CD sections. Now the Bluray part has like 1 area, and the Computer Parts area doesn't have a lot of stuff (I couldn't even get a printer since the one I wanted was sold out). Just not a great atmosphere there. I mainly go to Micro Center for my computer parts now, and they usually have a lot with decent prices.

The Fry's building is insanely huge for how little they sell. My store cut down on physical media but didn't replace it with anything. There are also aisles selling "as seen on TV" products. And aisles selling perfumes and beauty products.
