Target.com save 30% off on a current video game with (a select game pre-order

Yeah, and with Gamestop probably on its way out, and publishers increasingly pushing digital over physical, it makes sense that the cost of collecting physical media is going up. It's already the case that those who keep buying physical media in movies are now the minority, willing to pay premiums to have copies as part of their libraries. Video games are going the same route. LRG and others like them are the Shout Factory and Kino Lorber equivalents, and are likely to become larger and larger players in a shrinking video game publishing world.

All that is to say is that retail footprints for video games will get smaller, much like how Targets have largely phased out or reduced bluray sections to a single isle. It will mean fewer physical copies in the wild, which will lead to higher or more stable prices (at least compared to before). In short, expect fewer and fewer discounts on physical media going forward.

 
This doesn’t show up for me. It shows them both at full price. Tried los 2 standard/collectors with dying light 2, ghosts of t and also tried ghostbusters. None of those combos worked. Any thoughts? It shows the deal on the preorder item but neither is discounted.

One has to be a pre order and the other not a pre order

So what happened was u got 30% off once u cancelled the pre order? I’m guessing since my game has already shipped and it’s been a day already, I won’t be able to do that anymore?

It does show that I can still cancel the pre order I just don’t know if that would ruin the price I got for the shipped CE

I think I see what’s happening now for those who aren’t seeing any discount applying. The last of us, tho it shows available offer, once you add a pre order there’s no discount cuz I think they removed it from the promo. Now that may be the case with some other games but “available offer” will still show

I got 30% off at the time of purchase. It doesn't go away though I cancelled the preorder. It just prorates the price.

I did try it again and appears LoU2 no longer applies for the discount / sale though the page says it does. Contact Target chat to get a refund for the difference.

Pretty weird but I was charged $130 on my target redcard. Total I paid that shows on site was $160 after tax n red card for TLOU CE and mafia remake. Shouldn’t it be showing $120. Now I wonder if it’s still gonna update but it has already shipped. Wondering if it’ll get fixed if I cancel mafia now

I noticed the pricing was odd on my order of TLOU2 and Tony Hawk ... I think it splits the discount down the middle for both games, rather than actually giving 30% off a single title. If you cancel the preorder, it’s possible you could see the full 30% off ... but I’m hesitant to try it since TLOU 2 no longer applies for the promo.

Yeah I think that’s what’s happening. It splits the discount. However I can’t confirm it works fine when u buy two games and cancel one right away.
 
Took one for the team and canceled my preorder after picking up the Last of Us. The amount remains as initially charged, so you lose half the discount when the preorder is cancelled. Will probably end up returning the Last of Us, since $50 seems high.
 
This is always how target has done their buy whatever get some discount. Same with B2G1.

They take the amount of the discount or free game and spread it across all items purchased. With B2G1 it is spread proportionately greater towards the most expensive item (if different priced items)
