usps try to overcharge me?

ok so I have a package that is roughly 12-13 pound and the dimension is roughly 25 inch x 16 inch x7 inch. According to paypal priority calculator it should be roughly $31 ish to ship. In order to double check the weight, i bring the package in to weight in, i was given 11pound and 12 oz so that 12 pound but the dimension post office give me is crazy, i was told it is 27 inch x 20 x 7 and the quote i was given is $50. Are they trying to bullcrap me and try to charge me oversize package?

It's cheaper to order USPS postage online, I think.

If you're over two pounds, to hell with the USPS; go UPS ground for a cheaper rate. Post office will only offer you priority mail at that point which is stupid overpriced for those weight ranges.
