Good show. Glad to hear Ship got a Legends Gamer.

I've got the Legends Ultimate and it is truly a game-changed when it comes to a home vintage arcade system.

Since I haven't used the Gamer, I can speak the the Ultimate...

It's the same height roughly as a standard arcade machine, but not as deep because it uses an LCD screen rather than a CRT, which is great. It also doesn't give off heat because of that.

The build quality is quite good, I'm happy with the components, but it's easy to swap out for "better" controls if you want; even an official Tron joystick or Star Wars arcade yolk.

It supports light guns and an LCD pixel marquee that will display the actual marquee of the the game you are playing.

The built-in games are really enough for the money, and you can sort by controller type, to answer Wombat's question. On the Ultimate you can use the Trackball for Centipede, Millipede, Missile Command, Crystal Castles, and more.

What really puts this thing over the top is that atgames supports community development. There's versions of CoinOpsX for atgames that allow you to run basically any arcade game up to the late 90s, some even newer, most console games, etc, directly off of a USB Flash Drive. The CoinOpsX Arcade includes over 1500 games.

If you want it, it's likely there.

I forgot to add, CoinOpsX is FREE.

So yeah, I play it a lot. Lunchtime breaks with Popeye, Robotron, various Mr. Dos, Donkey Kongs, what have you, it's there. If there's a problem it's that there is SOOO much content to sort through. They're working on better sorting for CoinOpsX.

Do I sound like an infomercial? Sorry... but it's really that good.

My Arcade1Up Asteroids game lies dormant.

Here's the full text of my Roah review for those interested:

Roah (pronounced ROH-ah) is a 2D side-scrolling action platformer by indie developer and artist Solgryn, whose previous games include Wings of Vi and I Wanna Be The Boshy.  Code provided by our friends at Grynsoft.

Inspired by the likes of Shantae and Metroidvanias, Roah can jump, climb, crawl, and whip her powerful scorpion tail.  She can obtain different moves, and they're delivered with almost fighting-game style inputs and combos.  The game allows you to explore freely, obtain powers, and reach deeper areas.

The real hook for me is the art - the game has an Egyptian motif, and the lead characters are buxom cartoon cat-girls, hand drawn and animated in a style not unlike Rayman.  There's even a bit of dress-up, as you can purchase different outfits for Roah, including a genie outfit that completes the Shantae homage.

Catchy upbeat music too!

The game is challenging, but not punishing, with frequent checkpoints, items, and save points.  There's no hand-holding though, as you'll really have to figure your way out of certain areas.

Bosses are huge and interesting in their patterns.

My only knock is occasionally the controls can be a bit clingy - Roah can climb some walls and grab ledges, and sometimes you'll stick when you're trying to move along or get down to a lower level.

Game is fun and professional and really a herculean effort from an indie developer, recommended on sale if you like this genre.

I think I remember you guys talking about a fighting game idea called 'Wombat Combat'.  It looks like an Australian production company called 'Like A Photon' ,  took your idea and made an animated movie. I think you all should sue. They just swapped the 2 words around and they think that's enough to cover their 'Wom-butts'. I think not. You should contact 'The CW' also, since they plastered a 'CW' on her uniform. You and 'The CW' can probably team up on them.

Cheers, ~Tony

I've listened every week for well over a decade. But I swear that if Cheapy and Wombat talk about The Vow or Seduced one more time I will turn it off and never look back.

Anyway, another great show. Thanks for all you do.

This has been bugging me for awhile. Is Yakuza pronounced Yah-koohzah with a soft "k" and soft "z"? Or is it pronounced Yah---kuh---zahhhh with a hard "k" and hard "z"? I grew about around a lot of Japanese people so we always pronounced it the second way and it stabs at my brain when I hear it the first way. I just assumed it was a western way of saying it but a lot of developers and press say it the first way and if it was wrong, figured they would have been corrected by now since it's so popular.

Cheapy, since you lived in Japan, can you enlighten me?

It’s the second way. I know how to pronounce it, but still say it the first way unless I really slow down and methodically work my way through it.
