Balan Wonderworld $39.99 @Target (PS/XB/NS)

I played through it and enjoyed it. It's not a great game but it's an ok 3D platformer that has a lot of charm and weirdness that carries it through for me. No where near as bad as the reviews made it out to be.

Is it any good?
If you enjoy older games like NiGHTS and Crash Bandicoot, then you would enjoy this. The criticism comes from it feeling like a release that should've happened 20 years ago, rather than a 2021 game from a major publisher like Square Enix.

This came out in March and is already $20 off. It'll probably hit $20 by fall.

square enix title, square enix *NEVER* underprints their games. Reviews are hot trash. Has a lot of uniqueness to it, but this will be at bare minimum 19.99 by black friday, if not lower.

I'm intrigued despite other people's criticisms of the game. I think I'll buy it when it goes down just a tad further in price.

I imagine this game is another Yooka Laylee where it's not actually that bad, but people love jumping on hate bandwagons or trainwrecks

That said, im just waiting for it to get on gamepass

Yeah, Yooka Laylee feels like a fair comparison, and I was very disappointed by Yooka Laylee.

I played the demo for this game after barely knowing it existed, and it did not give off a good impression.

Between bundles and giveaways, I've both Yooka Laylee games but still haven't managed to get around to playing either.
Maybe backlogs are a good thing.

To be fair I was extremely down on the demo also and I ended up liking it. The day one patch tightened up the controls which was a huge reason for my dislike of the demo.

I liked Balan far more than i liked original Yooka Laylee (I loved most of Impossible Lair) or Super Lucky's Tale (before the "New" Version that fixed the controls/camera). Like I said previously as a platformer Balan Wonderworld is fairly mediocre. The costume system sucks but the little stories and characters you encounter are just my type of cheesy and weird that I found it well worth a playthrough.

this game is terrible. i highly recommend it.

its terrible in an inspired sort of way, instead of it being a mediocre cynical by-the-numbers game. bad in the way that ps2 trainwrecks were. its a little nostalgic. play it with a friend or relative in the room.

buying a bad game isnt the cheapassgamer way though, so if you can get it without paying that'd be better.

Balan is a wonderful game!    it is beautifully made, and has a few gameplay design flaws; but fun to play if you work past that!

This is untrue. FF Anthology is overprinted like all of their FF games and popular games like KH but they do not overprint their niche games. If they did then Vagrant Story and others wouldn't be worth so much money...
