Starting a separate thread for price matching at GameStop. This will mainly be a place to post Walmart shelf price photos, which is usually needed for a successful PM at GameStop. Feel free to post photos, and we’ll see how this thread goes.

Hey,

Thanks for emailing us inquiring about our price matching, allow me to get that information and provide that down below, hope this helped!

identifying Qualifying Products • Items being price matched must be identical to the competitor's product (i.e., same brand, model number, color, etc.) to qualify. • They must also be immediately available for purchase in-store or online at a GME competitor. • Only product immediately available for purchase in our store are eligible for price matching (i.e., no WIS/online orders and no rainchecks). • We will only match the competitor’s exact price for like items. We will not take the price lower than competitor. • We will match all prices on gamestop.com, regardless of website availability. • Price matching is only approved for exact advertised prices. Promotional/special offers such as percentage or dollars off are excluded. III. Exclusions Marketplace Products – Price matching for Amazon and Walmart is only eligible for items sold and shipped by Amazon or Walmart. Items sold through the marketplace for these competitors are excluded from the Competitive Price Match Program

If there's anything else we can assist with, let us know!

Warm regards.

Just as a note, they aren't supposed to accept store photos, has to be verifiable on website and in stock.  so this is YMMV.

It really varies from store to store, and even the associate you’re dealing with. I usually have no issues showing a photo as long as the game shows in-stock as well on Walmart app for the closest store.

I'm just stating what the actual company policy is. So yes, some stores may bend, hence the YMMV, but policy is no.

Can you post a link to the actual policy stating this? The best I can find is Wario64’s original tweet, which does not specify online-only pricing. I think this is part of reason there’s so much variance between stores.

Policy wasn't posted publicly, why I don't know. Employees have a full policy breakdown from the announcement, there's nothing guest facing.

Actual policy would never be used if they followed it:

Brian: Hello, does GameStop price match other stores? Thanks! (07:52:18)
*** Cristopher M. joined the chat *** (07:52:34)
Cristopher M.: Thanks for chatting with GameStop. My name is Cristopher M. and I'm happy to help!
(07:54:14) Brian: hello
(07:54:48) Cristopher M.: Hello Brian, please let me advise you that as per our price match policy GameStop is able to make exceptions on pricing (07:55:05) Cristopher M.: However, there is a criterion that needs to be fulfilled in order for an exception to be made
(07:55:39) Cristopher M.: First, we only apply a discount if the item is the exact same item that we advertise on our website, it cannot have a different SKU from the manufacturer
(07:56:19) Cristopher M.: Secondly, the difference in price has to be based on the actual retail value of the item, discounts made due to sales do not apply
(07:57:25) Cristopher M.: And the third condition is that we need you to send both a photo of said item on the other retailer's website and the link to that same website so that we can verify that the item on that site complies with the previous two restrictions.
(07:58:25) Brian: Okay. I was thinking about Pokemon Snap that is $40 on Best Buy > https://www.bestbuy....p?skuId=6414112
(07:59:39) Cristopher M.: I see, let me check real quick for you then Brian
(08:05:12) Cristopher M.: Thank you for your patience Brian, I already check on Bestbuy and compare it to the one we have on our website, and it seems that the one that BestBuy has is the Nintendo Switch Lite verision, and also, the reason it is at $40 is that they have it on sale
(08:05:26) Cristopher M.: But the actual retail price they normally have is $59.99
(08:06:21) Cristopher M.: So it would seem that this product on their site does not match either of our price match policy requirements, so no price adjustment could be applied to any order you have made with us.
(08:07:14) Brian: Oh, the game title has Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch Lite as it plays on both systems. Doesn't sound like that matters since the price match only works if the game is not on sale?
(08:08:23) Cristopher M.: That is correct, as I mentioned before the second condition of our price match policy is that the difference in price has to be based on the actual retail value of the item, discounts made due to sales do not apply
(08:08:43) Brian: Okay, thanks anyway!
(08:09:11) Cristopher M.: No problem Brian, anything else I can help you with today?
(08:09:29) Brian: That's all. Thank you
(08:09:34) Cristopher M.: Happy to help Biran, thank you again for contacting us today, and don't you dare having a good day, make sure you have a great one (08:10:02)
Brian: Thanks! (08:10:10) *** Brian left the chat ***

So, sounds like their policy is only to price match if they get caught price gouging.

Here is the official policy directly from GameStop Customer Support. They state that the identical item can be price matched based on the online or in-store price.

Incorrect.  It has to be available for purchase in-store or online at competitor.  They use the online price and availability to verify this.  I'm telling you exactly what is communicated and procedure from an in store level.

Incorrect? That's exactly what it says about matching competitors:

Right, that's what I was quoting.  NOWHERE does that say they honor the in store price.  Because they don't.  The communication stores have received is to VERIFY the price via the website and check stock availability for online or in store purchase.  They don't have a way to verify in store pricing any other way and are NOT supposed to do it.    I said, it may be YMMV cause some stores are lazy and don't follow policy, but the operations and procedures provided to stores explicitly state to verify via the website.

Nowhere does it explicitly say that they won’t either. Like quite a few things with GS, it comes down to the store and who you’re working with. I have never really had an issue with PM at multiple stores in my area. This thread is here to help people out with PM. Thanks for your input though.

It does explicitly state it in the internal procedures given to employees.  That's all I'm saying, is it's YMMV as they aren't supposed to do it.

so, Game stop priceMatch policies say that we can do price on offer or sale products!!!

Does Gamestop have an official policy of pricematching their own online prices in their stores and letting you use your Rewards coupons? It's crazy some stores don't let you use both.

For me, I have certain stores that will do it for me and I shop at those stores but they're further away for me while the closest stores to me refuse to do that. Gamestop is the only store I know of where their in-store price don't always match the price on their website.

Technically, employees aren't supposed to stack PMs and Rewards coupons, but the system allows it.

Definitely policy to match their online price, not sure if they have an "official policy" on price matching themselves and using a pro coupon. I've never had a problem with this though. Just mention it's cheaper online, show them to price match, and then while checking out I'll just mention I have a $5 coupon as well. They go "sure" and that's it. Like they don't have to do anything special to make it work, it's like any other transaction. The only barrier is if an employee refuses to do so.

Yup, the computer will let them, but internal policy says they aren't allowed to and it is tracked. So few are even trained at this point though, plenty will let you stack.
