It's going to be applied how everything in the game industry applied. Think of the worst case scenario of how this can be abused & that's will become the industry default standard of how they'll use of it. Don't believe me let's look at the track record,
Patches: It will only use them to patch minor things they happened to missed in QC or balance fixes for online play. Certainly they won't just release broken games with the motto we'll fix it later...maybe.. if we feel like it, right? :^o
DLC: It will only be used as extra content developed post launch so you can continue to enjoy your game & give our customers better value. Certainly they won't cut content out of the base game in order to sell it to you like like slices of pie, right? :^o
Collector Editions: It's just a way for dire hard fans to get some extra physical goodies to game francise that is established that they love. At the end of the day the game itself is going to be the same game as the standard edition & it's just going to be a single different extra edition. Certainly they won't have it so every release under the sun has to have a collector edition of some sort, that have segments of the actual game cut & isolated to that edition only, or have so many multiple editions they need to release a chart to tell you how to get the most of the complete game, right? :^o
Pre-Order Bonus: It's only be use to sell you a small cosmetic bonus that has no bearing on gameplay & it's only just one small single piece anyhow. Certainly they won't have multiple pieces across vast retailers that has the possibility to affect gameplay, right? :^o
Microtransactions: It's just a few small minor cosmetics, not really needed to enjoy the game, plus its the reason the game is offered free to play. Certainly they won't lock vasts amounts of the game behind paywalls, have they vastly affect gameplay, or intentionally increase the grind to push the players towards them or make it into a gambling systems to milk even more money out of them. Besides stuff like this will only be isolated to free to play games & will NEVER be in games you pay full price for....right? RIGHT?
I could go on with more examples but I think I made my point. So don't kid yourself, how they use this will get worse & it won't be just isolated to free to play crap. We already saw fisaco with the unskippable ads during the loading in a NBA 2k loading screen. The end goal will be much worse & unless their is a big pushback to this now your going to end up having to enjoying a Mountain Dew or G-Fuel ad constantly in the upper corner while you play COD or Halo.
