Murphy getting his arm blown off at point blank range by a shotgun while the criminal gang taunts him is just as violent and disturbing as anything I’ve seen recently on TV, or in a modern movie. It’s a short scene, but it’s stuck in my mind for 30 years, and not for being funny.

It's not even enough time to cover your eyes. The camera changes before you can react.
The reason that scene stuck with you is probably because:
1) its fucking robocop and its fine art
2) you were young when you watched it.
