As a parent who's child recently came out as trans, it makes me feel a little bit better that there are people out there willing to stand up for trans rights. The only people insufferable are those who want to attack anyone for taking a stand for something they believe in. Wombat has a platform and he's using that platform to spread acceptance of a marginalized group of people. My only complaint about this discussion on the podcast is that you actually took someone using the terms "social justice warrior" and "woke" as insults seriously.

The greatest upgrade I remember from my lifetime was when my family first got a Nintendo 64. My older brother worked at Blockbuster and was able to borrow one from work for little cost and that was an amazing experience after only having a Super Nintendo. We bought one shortly after he rented that one. Each generation has been graphically amazing to me until this latest one. Going from my Xbox One X to a Series X didn’t seem that amazing graphically, the big thing this generation has been those loading times. Trying to play anything on Xbox One X now feels like it takes forever to load.

Wear your Basic Bitch Badge proud Wombat.

There is nothing wrong with being a champion for social issues - without people like you in the past, we would be in a far darker place as a society today.

With regards to Ships arrested development, I think we have a case of pot kettle if that commenter belongs to the average demographic on the site.

Cheapy keep on stimulating that economy baby!

Love the show. Been listening since the days I discovered it on my iPod Touch.

I appreciated Wombat stating that there are those who believe "trans rights are human rights" are buying the game. I think much of the outrage against the outrage is the picking and choosing by the media of what to avoid. I didn't see any outrage at all about the Superbowl being on Fox Sports (from Wombat or otherwise) which is still controlled by the Murdoch family who absolutely are worse for trans rights (and society in general) than JKR.

I also very much appreciate Wombat using his platform to bring light to this issue, especially last week when he spoke about how many new laws are being passed that are directly attacking the trans and entire LGBT community. I, however, personally believe reaching out to representatives and using a platform to educate (which Wombat is at least trying to do) can help people understand the issue more than the anger and shaming I see flooding my feeds.

If you're gonna be using the terms "woke" and "sjw" as means of an insult to people whose very existence is being threatened, you should take  a look at yourself, a middle aged person who struggles to exist as an adult who only engages in childish pursuits.

Wombat, please don't let Cheapy or Shipwreck or any of the "my nostalgia outweighs your human rights" people gaslight you into thinking you're the one who has to be defensive on this issue. Voices like yours raise crucial awareness, without which I and plenty of others wouldn't even know about the moral compromises associated with patronizing that franchise.

And just because the game sold millions doesn't mean the boycott failed. For all we know, the game would have sold twice as well if it weren't for the "discourse" (as Cheapy puts it). The discourse matters, and thank you for contributing to it.

The weirdest thing about Hogwarts Legacy is there’s a transgender character in the game
Why is it weird? The people that made the game haven’t shared their beliefs like Rowling has. For all we know, they put the character in there as an F you to Rowling. That’s why I have no problem playing (and loving) the game. The devs aren’t her.

Exactly. People are boycotting the game to support trans people, but don't realize that the game itself supports them. Its ironic

I’m so afraid to like any post now…

This whole attack against JK Rowling is completely ridiculous. Are people not looking at her tweets themselves and just taking the word of people like Wombat or the media? Glaad has a nice write up showcasing all the things JK Rowling has said regarding trans people spanning all the way back to 2019 and it shows how ridiculous all this hate against her really is. She has never claimed that Trans rights aren't human rights. In the article Glaad literally uses a tweet from JK Rowling where she says "I know and love trans people" as "proof" that she's "anti-Trans". How can people not see how ridiculous this is? For context here is the whole tweet “If sex isn't real, there's no same-sex attraction. If sex isn't real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. ... I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn't hate to speak the truth.” How is this tweet problematic? If you actually look at the things JK Rowling has said you would know that her problem is with Trans activism not trans people themselves.

I do understand why she is getting backlash though because sadly in modern times if you criticise or question anything you are instantly labeled as Anti whatever it is you are questioning/criticizing. This very same thing happened with the actress from Ant-Man though on a much smaller scale, she got vaccinated but becauses she's pro choice and doesn't think the government should have mandated it she got instantly labeled as anti-vax. Its sad that people act this way but thats the world we live in now.

As I mentioned on the show, and will reiterate now. At the end of the day it really doesn't matter what she thinks, it matters what you think. The issue is more important then debating about a game, or one person. If we can all agree that Trans rights are Human rights, then none of the other stuff really matters. That being said, if there continues to be bad actors, which if you read the YouTube comments, there are, I will continue to reiterate the CAGcast stance on the topic.

It shouldn't matter what JK Rowling thinks but clearly, it did matter. If it didn't matter then we wouldn't be talking about this since there would be no controversy. I think we have two different ideas as to what the actual issue here is. For me, the issue is what the media does to people. First, they label you as "bad", then this gives people the justification needed to attack this "bad" person, then they attack projects this "bad" person is associated with, and then lastly it ends with attacking people who consume said projects. This is exactly what happened in this situation, the media labeled JK Rowling as "bad", and people on Twitter then felt justified in attacking JK Rowling or in your case calling her a terrible person, then they moved on to attacking the Harry Potter Franchise, and it ended with people attacking streamers, reviewers, and gamers for just playing Hogwarts Legacy. This behavior needs to stop because more often than not the person the media labels as "bad" isn't actually bad.

Believing trans rights are human rights is a separate issue that has nothing to do with Hogwarts Legacy and JK Rowling. If there are bad actors commenting on Youtube why waste your time acknowledging them by reiterating Cagcast stance on the topic? Just ignore them.

Every time some soft puddle of melted ice cream quits listening to the show because they can’t handle Wombat being forthright with what he believes in, an angel gets their wings.
