I already have a PSP, should I get a Nintendo DS?

praystation

CAGiversary!
I already have a PSP (with 1GB MS, some games, ridge racer, wipeout pure, lumines, Dead to rights, Ape escape, NBA). Now I have $121 BREgames trade-in credits and they have $109 brand new NDS + 2 new games included (The price is undoubtedly HOT). Question: Should i get the DS? Is it any good? Does it have a future? (I don't want to buy another virtual boy). What should I do? Help please.

Right now, the DS has a better future than the PSP. The PSP is undoubtedly sexy and has a few choice games, but the DS has a far better line-up in the near future. A year or so out? I don't know which will be ahead, but as it stands right now the DS has the better selection of titles.

You should sell the PSP and get a DS and games with the money. It has more of a future than PSP.

lol I know what you mean. But i'm looking foward to GTA: Liberty City Stories hopefully that will spark psp advancement. I feel kinda bad paying 300 dollars when all i do is play lumines(which ALMOST justifies a psp purchase) :) . That price is pretty good I would prolly jump on it. But if it wasn't that price I would wait till after the holiday season and see what system looks better than

The DS is a great system. And as others have said, it's immeditae future looks a little brighter than the PSP's. I'd get it, but hang on to the PSP too :)

reason enough to be happy for the upcomming games for the DS:

Nintendogs (played demo, and I don't usually praise games too much, but this one is amazingly good)
Advance Wars Dual Strike
Metroid Prime Hunters
Castlevania DS
Mario Kart DS (online)
Pheonix Wright
Animal Crossing DS (online)
New Mario Bros
Mario/Luigi Superstar Saga 2
Electroplankton

...and more.

even the current library of games for the DS has more play value than most of the PSP games, excluding Lumines.

I have both a PSP and DS and can say I have owned about 5 games for my PSP and sold all but Lumines. As for my DS I have about 5 games also, but have yet to even get rid of a single one! The DS is probably one of my all time favorite systems ever, witht he dreamcast in second place.

Really should just sell the PSP Buy a DS and some games, then re-buy the PSP later down the road when it drops to half price. The DS is going to continue to get more and more great and oringal games. The PSP on the other hand has a problem, the developers have the choice of what system to put it on. Since PSP and PS2 development is so close. And since the PSP market is still extreamly small developers rather just send over ports and invest the money in PS2 games that will sell a lot more.

I'd go for the DS, yet still keep the PSP.
As for the two games with it, if you haven't decided, I reccommend Feel the Magic and Super Mario 64.

ds gives stuff you wont see anywhere else, so get one. It'll be worth it for Nintendogs alone.

Well, I got my PSP for 150, so it makes the pain a little less, but Lumines is all I play. I am trying to get through Metal Gear Ac!d, but the text moves far too slowly so I get very bored between battles. Lumines is a great, great game, although the DS has Meteos, and God only knows which I would choose if I were forced to pick my favorite.

I have both...PSP will be putting out some games this fall so it will be worth holding onto...meanwhile, I just recently got a DS and I love it...

I love my DS, but I would say hang on to your PSP, since you paid a bunch for everything. Mid/Late Fall sees both Sony and Nintendo releasing a lot of great games for their portables, so you might want to find a way of getting the DS, and holding onto your PSP

also check some websites that have DS or PSP release dates, see what interests you from now until the end of this year.

Thanks for your comment, but no, i won't sell my "portable sex-movie player."

Does NDS loses its Touchscreen's sensitivity overtime? I found a lot of the demo NDS in various shops have broken touchscreen.

That's a very excellent question and only Nintendo really knows. I'm sure if you take care of the system it will last several years but hey you've probably seen how people abuse store demos.
Does NDS loses its Touchscreen's sensitivity overtime? I found a lot of the demo NDS in various shops have broken touchscreen.
Are you retarded 4 year old? No?

If you take care of your systems they won't break.

And yes you should get a DS. I say get Feel the Magic and SM64 DS as your 2 games.

I have both, and I think they are apples and oranges. I love the game lineup for the DS, and the future looks great. Alternatively, I also love being able to watch movies on my PSP and browse the net at hot spots. I was pissed at the game lineup for the PSP until I started looking at it as a multimedia device instead of a handheld gaming device.

Well, I am not a retard, and I am definetely not 4 years old. Both of My PDAs (tungsten c and zire) have already lost some sensitivity eventhough I never really use them (Don't really need em). Heck Even touchscreen panel by My school's cadaver's storage door has problem with certain key. However, Thank you, ANd yes I already placed an order. with SM 64 and Feel the magic (with Ridge racer and tiger wood for the alternate titles).

I also took care of my past ps1, ps2, and they broke (I know SOny made crappy lenses that break in 2 years, even My 3DO still reads all my scratched up games and Vcd well). However, You can't really be too careful right?

Well I always hear stuff like that, but none of my systems ever broke unless I did something to them (i.e. dropped them).

I came from Singapore (Like Kaylani Lei, the pr0n star). and I used to think my ps1 broke because I used my ps1 only to play back up games. I had 400+ ps1 CDr ps1 games. That was why when i got my ps2, I really took care of it. UNtil I got "DRE" one day when trying to load Marvel Vs Capcom2... I Never dropped my ps2, ALways vac it with my vac cleaner, I even bought extra fan to blow the ps2 from the front. Yes I broke My V-saturn because I dropped it (less than 10 inches drop) but my Ps2???

A lot of it depends on what you're looking for in a handheld.

I have both but I use my DS a lot more, for a couple of reasons. First off, there are games that are different from what I can play on my home consoles. The touch-screen based games are fun and quick and almost relaxing to play. Also it's amazing what the ten dollar price difference in games makes. Even though it's just ten bucks, I have a lot harder time parting with $40 for a handheld game than I do $30. Thus, I have seven or eight DS games and two PSP games.

Of course, it's fun to play console-type games too and the PSP proved to me that it's now possible on a handheld. I love Wipeout Pure and I borrowed Ridge Racer and was impressed with it as well. But the thing is darned expensive. I got it as a gift and I like it a lot, but I don't know if I could justify the price if I were footing the bill myself.

As people have said already, the upcoming software list looks rosier on the DS side too. So if you like the type of games that the DS offers then I say it's a worthwhile investment. I was personally sold when I found out a new side-scrolling Mario game was coming. The new side-scrolling Sonic game just makes it even sweeter! :)

Lets put it this way. I walked into EB with the intent on buying a PSP, but walked out with a DS. Nintendo made one hell of a good handheld and a ton of games are coming out. I'd give it a shot bro.

I already have a PSP that I bought on launch day and I just bought a DS today, so I'd say go for it! Unfortunetly I couldn't figure out what game to get so I ended up just picking up Feel the Magic at Best Buy with GGC for $15.

I have a DS and I love it!! :D
I DO want a PSP, but that thing is seriously like...more expensive then kemo therapy.
There's just SO much to buy..that the price goes up so quick! "$250" isn't TOO bad..but then you need games, and bigger memory cards...and that goes WAY past $250 :(

My birthday is next month...but I would feel bad askin my BF to spend that kind of money...which could be spent on like 6 months of rent lol SIGH

I think the DS is a good buy, but it all depends on if you want to put your time and money into supporting two portables. If you buy a DS just to end up having an unused PSP/DS when Xbox360/PS3/Revo come out then you may regret your purchasing decision.

Lets see... the DS has a great lineup (finally) and the upcoming months have a number of top profile games. The PSP started with Lumines and is getting... GTA: Liberty City Stories and tons of UMD movies in the coming months.

I was so hyped for the PSP back when it launched and when I had the money to buy one two weeks after launch, I didn't get one because I realized that Lumines is the only game that interested me.

At the moment, the DS is killing the PSP (Playstation Ports) because most of the PSP's games are multiplatform titles (so you can get the same thing on the PS2 or Xbox, sometimes GC).

Of course, after this year... we don't know anything about the PSP or DS...

My reasons to justify buying a DS over a PSP:

Princess Peach DS
Mario Kart DS
Animal Crossing DS
Trauma Center
Nintendogs
Snowboard Kids DS
Daigasso! Band Brothers
Electroplankton

As well as:

Meteos
Nanostray
Pac Pix
Feel the Magic

All among others.

I say get the DS, you will not be disappointed, guarenteed.

I aswell am coinsidering to purchase a DS in the coming months, even though I love my PSP, but for the price the DS is, you can't beat it. The only problem is that theres really only one game coming out for the ds that I could see myself buying which is Advanced Wars...

I ordered it. Hopefully it will come today or tomorrow (fresno, CA from San mateo, CA aren't that far right?). One question: What can you do about DS though? Except for games? (for those who don't have a PSP, it can be used to watch Movies (porn, anime, whatever, play MP3 / ATRAC3plus music, read ebook, emagazines, Internet surfing) I don't want to bring 2 Portable systems at once (Three actually, I have an N-Gage QD, and Four, if I bring My TUngsten C along. Having ONly TWO gadgets will make me Look like a tard already).

I just bought a DS as well. I'm waiting for it to arrive from California so I'm hoping to get it later this week. I mainly bought it for Nintendogs since I preordered it at EBGames. I played the demo at the Nintendo World Store a couple of weeks ago and was hooked. I'm definitely looking forward to the slew of games coming out too.

If you're looking for something else to do with your DS, pick up a GBA Movie Player:

http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=56740

you can play music, read e-books, watch movies and (the main reason I bought it) play old NES games.

Shoot this is wrong... You cant do anything else? You can do all those things with psp already. Even the screen is so much bigger than that of the DS... I am starting to question my decision to get the DS, which I already did =(
Somebody please tell me I shouldn't worry about my new invesntment.

What else did you want it to do? Just get a laptop or something. It's a GAMING machine, it's only an added bonus to be able to do the extra crap. And unlike PSP and N-Gage cards, you can afford the memory.
Ummm... I have a laptop already. Make it two actually. A laptop and a tabletPC
Well, If you already have a Laptop, TabletPC, and a PSP, why would you want the DS to do anything more?? I mean, there is a device that allows you to play movies on the DS as well as music. I forgot the name of it, but I'm sure somebody on here remembers. Also, anybody who owns both the PSP and DS will tell you that the some of the best times to play DS games is when their waiting for their PSP games to load. And I'm not being sarcastic about that either.

Ummm.... You are wrong. Ken Kutaragi (Father of Playstation) never addressed Playstation (PS, PS2, PSX, PSP, soon PS3) as "Just-Gaming-machine." He call them "Entertainment system."

IT'S HERE!!!
Guys, one question: How does a new DS game loook like? The website Bregames says I get one new NDS, with 2 used games. The system is undoubtedly new. But the games I have in front of me (SM64DS + ridge racer) are wrapped (with that wrapper thing), sealed. So Does the new games have somekind of seal like you find in PS2 games? Or just Saran wrapper like these?

You were asking about the DS being able to do more. N-Gage and PSP were, of course, designed to do everything, just nothing right.:)

HUh nothing? Anyway Been wondering whether I should play it or sell it. How much do u guys think a brand new ds plus 2 brand new games gonna ring on ebay?

that's just fucking ridiculous. I have a PSP and loading isn't that extreme unless you are a fucked up ritalin kid with excessive ADD.
