Local BB does not have GGC w/ current coupon

Hey, just want to know if anyone else has found their local BB to not have the latest GGC. The only ones I could find in my local store were expired at the end of last year ('03). Has anyone been able to take those to the counter and still redeem them since they don't have any current coupons? I spoke with a guy there who said that if I don't see any on the shelf, then they don't have any current ones anymore. They had a ton of 2003 cards, but the latest ones were nowhere to be found. Any suggestions? There isn't another BB close enough to check out their inventory. :?

Goodness, banky. It's my first topic posted on this forum. As you can see by my title, yea, I'm still a newbie. Give me a break while I'm still learning the nature of the beast.

My BB would not honor the old ones. I then looked a lot harder and found 2 new ones. i used one can kept one. Ever since then, when ever I am in teh area, I pick up a couple, just in case. I leave a couple in my truck just in case.

i went to bb the other day and had a ggc that expired 12/31/04...the cashier didnt know how to ring it up, so she asked the supervisor/manager guy and he said that they're all expired, but they're still taking them...i then said, "um, it expires 12/31/04"....he just said, "its expired", i said, "oh yeah, you're right?"

i then checked the stack of ggc in the store, and while they used to have full stock of 04 ones, they now have only 03 ones...hmmm

My Best Buy did the same thing. I found a Best Buy in West L.A. that had a ton of the new GGC, I bought a couple and took them to another Best Buy, the cashier said it expired without even looking at the date. I pointed out that it expires 04 and it rang up fine.

which store in west LA? on pico or washington blvd? i live in west LA and need to pick up some more

That's odd that they'd still have the '03 ones now in June. Back in late January my local BB had TONS of the expired '03's and not a new one to be found. Those disappeared within a few weeks and there was a whole slew of '04's.

If you were buying it and using it right away, you'd figure they'd have to let you use it, else they shouldn't even have those on the shelf. If you're buying it for future use, keep the receipt for proof of when you bought. Probably best not to take a chance and just wait for the 04's to come into stock if possible?

They know what they're doing. I say it time and time again, they always act like idiots NOT in the customers' favor. 8)

I bought my first GGC early this year while upstate visiting my mother and I didn't realize it was the expired one....I brought it back and made them switch it to a new one. The CSR tried to be lazy and give me grief, and said they would honor the old one, but I wasn't having any of that. I do NOT trust that kind of stuff to go right....

The BB's in manhattan always seem to have a ton of the GGCs.

Lord Slappy, I live in Greenville also and I have used the old cards there a couple of times. I havent had anyone decline the 2003 coupon yet, but it may still depend on the person ringing it up.

Thanks for your help, everyone. Rob, good to hear there are other CAGs in Greenville. Banky, I'll be sure to place my next topic in the correct place.

I've been doing the GGC for the past few months, but in the last month or so they have been getting harder to find. I think Best Buy Cop. is probably getting fed up and not issuing any new ones.

I know I probably shouldn't do this, but lately I'm just taking the cards off the shelf and using the coupons. They don't even shrink-wrap them or anything. After dealing with cashiers who don't seem to understand that using gift card money is not an "offer," I've found this to be the easiest way.

Ah, the ignorance.... the coupon comes PACKAGED WITH THE GIFT CARD for a reason, ya know. If I'm not in a real rush, though, I tend to "go by the book" and actually put money on a gift card, then come back and pay with a gift card, GGC , and cash.

this is what i do. it relieves all the bullshit. i bought an initial GGC with $5 on it. that $5 is now tied up until they no longer have these coupons. no biggie. now, everytime i go to best buy, whether i am buying anything or not, i pick up a new GGC. i always purchase it separately from anything else i am purchasing. when they ask how much i want on it, i say $5. they then say, "that'll be $5 please." i then whip out my old $5 GC and hand it to them. bam, got a new coupon and i still have a $5 GC just like i did before. peel out the new GC and stick it in my wallet for the next trip to best buy. i now have 14 $5-off coupons in my pocket, and i've used like 20+ this year already ;)

What I did was buy 20, putting a dollar on each. I used all of the gift cards ASAP. So I have a stack of 20 coupons that I keep in the car.

My Best Buy (Montgomery AL), ONLY has the silver 2003 GGC. They're all over the freaking place. However, I managed to find five of the new black ones a couple months back and snagged them. You would think that they would have to clear out the old ones and put new ones on the shelf. I do know that there's some "closet" CAG's here, because they were hitting up best buy with printouts when the sale hit :)

Slappy,

I too live in upstate SC and I work in Greenville.

I also noticed that all of the sudden the 04 GGCs just seemed to disappear and then the store was flooded with tons of expired 03 ones. Quite frankly I thought it quite suspicious as though they had "gotten wise" to the whole thing and were putting a stop to it. I did not ask anyone there about it though.

I live in Anderson Cty, and so I visited the Anderson BB. The 04 GGCs were EVERYWHERE. I went ahead and bought a stack there so that I could use them in Greenville. If you want some 04's, drive to Anderson one day and buy a huge stack.

That's a definite YMMV: My bf had an old GGC and he wanted to buy a new one a pay for it with the old one (it only had $1) on it. They said that you can't pay for gift cards with other gift cards. So I believe he just used the old giftcard on his purchase (it was his dollar anyway, and it wasn't a $19.99 game) and paid cash for the new GGC. Depends on your BB, and the cashier.
