I was really hyped up for this game. Partly becuase I'd subscribed to the Comic book last year and have enjoyed the new rehashes of the old storylines. Partly becuase I love everything Spiderman except maybe for the live action 1970's series. Maybe I expected too much from this game but I'd certainly like to hear some other opinions, so please post and tell us what you think too.

The Gamecube version of this game is very pretty on the surface, but that is about where it ended for me. The opening sequences were confusing, choppy, and paused in weird places with load screens. A game like this could really use a well presented backstory and they've failed at setting a good tone for the game.

After about 30 minutes I felt like I was playing spiderman 2 with a new skin. The mechanics for web swinging are the same, which is a GOOD thing. It's what made Spiderman 2 so playable. but spidey can only hang from one web at a time in this game, not hang between two. Maybe things will change as I get deeper into it, let's hope so.

The fighting, however, is wrought with confusion. No discernable combos to speak of, and really incomprehensible camera movements during fighting sequences. Just mash B and Y and then L-trigger to wrap up a thug. You really can't even see who you are trying to fight with the camera jumping up and down constantly. Half the time your blows land while the camera has panned to a blank brick wall.

On to the cityscape which is less than half the size of the last Spiderman game. It doesn't even come close to resembling NYC except for the green rectangle in the center of some island. Add to that some terriblly short draw distances and practically no textures to speak of until you're almost on top of of building. And, I havent found one building to walk in to yet. There doesn't seem to be any side mission diversions or any other task to break up the monotony of finding 'tokens' and beating up purse snachers.

Onto the gameplay. My main complaint about the last game was that there were only about 5 street crimes spidey had to conquer on a repeated basis and it made the game almost unbearably repetitive. Well guess what? More of the same. I've been beating up thugs, returning stolen purses, and taking victims to the hospital for almost 2 hours now. If I eventually have to rescue a lost balloon , this disk might end up as a projectile across the front lawn. All in all, I'm unimpressed. Spiderman on the Dreamcast was better than this.

Have you gotten to the part where, as Venom, you get to EAT the balloon kid from Spider-man 2?

I picked this up Friday for the Xbox. I had hopes that it would be at least as long as Spiderman 2. Well I think its about only 1/2 as long, I just beat it and I would say I only put in 3-4 hours. Granted I still need to unloack some stuff but thats it. Would have been nice if more was included. Could have made the game longer or done like in Spiderman 1 where there was a whole game where you could play as the green goblin. Playing as Venom is nice but not much of a point to it, you can only run around and do a few races as him.
