I'm definitely picking up Mario Kart and Animal Crossing. I should be online within the same week as MK, I'll post my name when I make one.

As soon as we can make tags of some sort, I will update the top of this thred. If all goes well, we can have nightly tournaments...?

I can access the site now...interesting. Looks like some people on Japan are already playing Animal Crossing...bastards!

nobody better take "Dingleberry" before i get my Mario Kart. And Nintendo better not restrict it, saying it's offensive.
The site is up, but the only thing on it is a link to nintendo.com.

What are other people seeing?
You can get this sometimes

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck....That can't be the only list of compatible wireless routers. If it is than my WRK54G Linksys and my other router won't work. Are you guys sure that those are the only routers that work at the moment?

Another question to my last post, even if you don't have the right router, how are you supposed to get onto the Wifi? Haven't been able to figure it out anyway.

Nintendo is also releasing a wireless port that plugs into a computer's usb port. It basically will turn any computer with a broadband connection into a wifi spot.

I kept getting an error , but I found this . Maybe we should all try later.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will be up and running on November 14, and we'll be launching a new category to support this awesome new service very soon.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection category will be open to everyone, including users who are brand new to the NSider Forums. This means that new members will not have to wait three days before posting on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection category.

I don't plan to reveal the actual board structure before we launch the category, but there will be boards dedicated to Mario Kart DS, Tony Hawk's American Sk8land, and Animal Crossing: Wild World. Because of this, we are planning to retire the Crossing Guardian board when this new category launches.

I'm sure you will all have a lot of questions about the rules for the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection category, but please be patient. The rules will be clear when the boards launch, and I'll be able to clear up many questions during my Ask NOA_Andy chat show.

In anticipation of this new category, we've already launched a new Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection skin. I think it looks pretty cool so please check it out.

Stay tuned to www.Nintendowifi.com for everything you need to know about Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Thanks!

And how much shall this wireless port cost, and where did thou find this info? I want to read up on it. Can't wait to play wireless with somebody.

That list of routers are the only ones that have been tested SO FAR. So routers not on that list may or may not work to varying levels. You just have no way of knowing in advance until you/somebody tries it or Nintendo updates the list. As for that USB thingy, it will retail for $34.99 on Nintendo's website as said by Reggie at last weeks NOA Press Summit. Instructions for getting onto WiFi with your router should be easily accessible once the site goes live tomorrow (or if the iste works for you now then now).
Your guys' excitement for the site amuses me.
I don't think anyone is particularly excited, more like mildly interested. The website gives us the opportunity to check our network configurations and router compatibility with Nintendo's Wi-Fi service.

Ditto to the max. Never heard of this thing, but heck yeah I want it.
Your guys' excitement for the site amuses me.
Just because you already have the game doesn't give you the right to ridicule the rest of us ;)

It amuses me that you have the game but can't play with anyone online yet! Ha! Of course that also means that you have been able to practice on all of these tracks before us.
Ditto to the max. Never heard of this thing, but heck yeah I want it.
http://www.1up.com/do/newsStory?cId=3145484

From Nintendo.com for $34.99

But try your wireless stuff first and see if it'll work. Note this quote from the 1up article: "If your home or school or office is already wireless, there's a good chance you can go online with your existing network. In my case, I was able to use the Apple Airport Extreme I've owned for the past two and a half years to get online, and it was nearly as simple as using Nintendo's software -- despite the fact that it's not officially supported."

I have no wireless anything, but heck, for that price I might as well just invest in a compatable router in case I ever use for something besides my DS.
:: laff ::

Whatever.
Good [Insert "sir" or "lady" here], I believe you have been "Pwned to teh max"?
I believe Quigoni is of the female persausion, despite that we are currently conversing on the internets.
It is rather difficult to discern gender on the "internets." So I decided to change it from "sir" to a multiple choice selection. This way, you and me are both covered.

The site's actually helpful. Now to go order my adapter... and some sort of broadband connection. ¬ ¬

And on a side note, that USB adapter isn't available to buy yet, is it? -_- I checked nintendo.com and didn't find it, but I'll try again later during class (hopefully).
It is rather difficult to discern gender on the "internets." So I decided to change it from "sir" to a multiple choice selection. This way, you and me are both covered.
....Well, yea. I was joking in that reply. :p Hope it didn't come off the wrong way.

In related news, what game is your sig from? Has to be an old adventure game. Beneath a Steel Sky?
It is rather difficult to discern gender on the "internets." So I decided to change it from "sir" to a multiple choice selection. This way, you and me are both covered.
You should use the word 'sex' in place of 'gender' in this situation. They are not equal.

Some things:
1) Check out the website again ... it's fully functional. That compatability list for routers isn't complete. You can look at routers by manufacturer... they've listed every model that they've tested and even include model specific instructions on how to troubleshoot.
2) Your username is NOT unique to you. Hypothetically, everyone could have the same handle. What IS unique is a special identity code given to you (it's dependent on your DS's mac address, and your copy of the game). This unique code is completely invisible to you. You can change your username from game to game and from match to match!

well the wifi site is up and running... looks like you can use your nintendo.com ID (the one you register games with) or make a new one... i'll probably keep my ID which is dan0 ... but it doesnt look like you can link your 10 digit ID yet, unless you already have a wifi game like Tony Hawk AW
....Well, yea. I was joking in that reply. :p Hope it didn't come off the wrong way.

Bingo, Beneath a Steel Sky it is. I think it's a terrific game, but it suffers from the all too common "This game is so bitchin', it needs to be short" syndrome. An example of other games that have fallen victim to it are: Mafia, Shenmue, God of War, Devil May Cry, and Ico; to name a few.

Anyway, I was just joking around as well. So lets get back on-topic before they send katana-wielding nuns after us...

...Wi-Fi! Wi-Fi! Wi-Fi!

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection games that contain a chat feature will work as follows: "Open" chat is allowed between friends who have exchanged Friend Codes. "Closed" chat is available during "Stranger” or "Rival” play. "Closed" chat means you can select from a set of phrases to send to an opponent but you may not type whatever you want.

Not a terrible idea, really. At least this will limit the amount of stupidity we'll have to encounter.

It's up (obviously). The forums are PACKED. I'll start adding names and games owned (Either Mario Kart or Tony Hawk) next Tuesday.

This is going to be awesome. I hope the Westell router I got from Verizon works with this or I'm going to have to shell out $35 to get up and running.

Edit: I became an all-star with that post, woohoo!

I've been looking all over the Nintendo site, but I can't find any info on the Linksys WRK54G wireless router. It's not even on Linksys site anymore. From what I could discern though, it seems to be basically the same model as the WRT54G which is guaranteed to work. Anyone think they could help me with this and how to get started? I'm totally confused as to what to do.

I'll bet that your router will work but you won't really know until you test it out. Obviously Nintendo can't test every router out there, so there are going to be tons of routers that are not on the list that will probably work fine.

As far as what you need to do, once you get a WiFi game, it will have a WiFi setup procedure that is pretty easy to follow. If your wireless access point is not using any security and is broadcasting its SSID, your DS should pick it up automatically (it's one of the options). If you are using WEP, you'll need to do some manual configuration.

The Nintendo WiFi page has a step-by-step procedure that you can use that asks you questions about your home setup and then tells you what you need to do.

I suppose you're just going to have to wait and see, I highly doubt you're going to have any trouble though. I've never had any connectivity issues with Linksys routers.
