To make one in windows just press the "Print Screen" button that is to the right of F12. Then you can use your fav graphic program to start a new file and paste the image which is in the clipboard to the program. Save as a gif or jpg. Find a place to upload it and display it here. You can use the CAG gallery if you have to but you will not be able to display it inline in this thread. Anyways...

Here is mine:

No desktop background - I need all the RAM I
can get to keep 40 browser tabs open at once.

Besides, I always work with maximized windows.

I have a little collection of wallpaper images, I just never use them as wallpapers.

Bitmaps are kinda on the FREAKINGHUGE side so they might have disabled them here. Either post as a gif,jpg or post a link to the pic.

You should open the bitmap in a graphics program. You can use MS PAINT and then resize and then SAVE AS...you can then choose a new file format like JPG or GIF.

First, you guys have some seriously busy desktops. I couldn't stand that.

Second, I would hide my porn :p

Third, here's mine:

what's that graphic in your background of?
It's my website mascot, Beta. I draw my own BGs for my comp.

This was my old one:

As for Busy desktops, I like having my games and most used icons there so I dont have to hunt through menus to find them because I really hate the way XP handles file folders, I really could stand to loose a few but I never know when I'll need them so I just made a new image that wouldnt be obscured as much. I keep some of my lesser stuff like FTP, Spybot and antivirus in the start menu.

I don't know how to post a pic, but I'm using a nice illustration of Yuna from FFX-2. Never played the game, but the picture is beautiful.

Does anybody else here run a Mac?

Alpha2, I have to say, I really like your artwork.

I like my desktops completely clean - I put all of my icons in the QuickLaunch toolbar. And a lot of the programs I use just stay in the start menu's "recent programs" list, so i don't need dozens of icons. My desktop:

Yeah, that is pretty sweet
Looks like I'm one of the only ones here that actually likes to use the quick launch toolbar.

how do you add programs that are already installed onto the quicklaunch?
I dont see a point in a clean desktop. It should be cluttered either but its a desktop for your stuff that you need fast.
If I find a piece of art that I want to look at, I don't want a bunch of hideous icons covering it up. I use quick launch to quickly launch my programs. And all of my files I keep on a separate harddrive from my Windows installation, so it's not like I'd store them on the desktop, no matter how often I use them

I used to use the quick launnch bar but it kept taking up so much space on the bottom so when I'd have like 4 or more internet windows or applications open it was a bitch and half to switch between them because the bars would be too small for the labels to say which was what...

Yeah I like a nice looking desktop image but to be fair...how often does your computer sit with just the desktop?

I like artwork on my desktop and then I place all my icons around that. I try not to get an image thats too overbearing on the desktop because then I cant see any icons..or the image. As you see from my desktop image...I keep Brooke clean.

All you have to do is drag and drop into the quicklaunch toolbar.

I agree...which is why I keep my quick launch toolbar as short as possible with only programs I use on a daily basis.

redgopher, how do you get that "crash on loading" screen to come up (like in your gallery)? there was a program that i used to change the start button label and startup/shutdown screens for windows 98, but i can't even remember what the name of it was anymore.

I like the way Redgopher is using his quicklaunch, thats acutally the first time I've ever seen it like that! I just dont like the way it floats though, too easy for me to push off the screen or resize by accident.

I think I was spoiled by my old Mac at work with OS 8, I literally had 3 icons on the desktop and thats all I ever needed because the way the file structure worked gave me easier access and less needless diging to get to applications I needed, it was rare that anything was more than 2 or 3 clicks away. Plus it was more pleasing to the eye.
Yo redgopher...I really want to know how you got that box of little icons on your desktop. I would LOVE to do that.
It is a program made by Aladdin Systems (known for StuffIt) called DragStrip. You can download it from their site, and if you're.. um.. less moral than some of us... you can get a serial for it. It's a great program. I have it really minimalized, so you can have like tabs for lots of pages of icons, its really sweet.

EDIT: Here's a link: http://www.aladdinsys.com/win/dragstrip/index.html
well share the secret FOOL!
Make sure your taskbar is not locked...then just drag and drop your quick launch toolbar onto the desktop.

Holy crap! it was so easy to find I actually feel bad for them. Maybe I'll just buy the thing next time I'm in manhattan....

I didnt need a program.

First make sure your taskbar is NOT locked...you can right click the taskbar for that.

Then turn on the Quick Launch which again is a right click on the task bar...

Now drag the quick launch off the taskbar (you do this by clickin the left side of the quick launch text)

Now just drag any shortcuts into the quick launch window and place it where you want to..you can resize it too.

But you can't change the color, or hide the titlebar, or have multiple "pages" of icons or have tabs for those pages, etc, etc.
