Ahem. Yeah, so, I need a new pair of headphones. General use, mainly for my portable CD player. A decent pair. Budget is $25 or less, shipped or picked up in-store. I may not look street, but I need a pair with a deep, heavy bass response. Also, gotta have a headband. I hate that neckband and earwrap crap. No earbuds either. Have to fit comfortably over the ear, nice pads.

LOLKTHXBI!
Get Sony MDR-V150's. They're like $20, and sound incredible. I tried them on the bassiest song I have (Ben Lewis Metroid Mix), and my head throbs from it.

EDIT Here's the link
Believe it or not, I actually have a pair of those! I picked them up at CompUSA last year or the year before. I LOVE using them with my theater setup, especially late at night. You can actually hear Master Chief's heartbeat in Halo after you take damage. Incredible bass with movies too...

Problem is, they sound like shit with my portable CD player, a Philips Jogproof. I don't think it has enough power to drive them properly.

I was gonna recommend the same (the Sony ones), but they work fine on my RCA discman, which was $30 at Target. You may want to look into it.

I got a pair of coby from walmart. I needed a pair for a trip, and they were $10, and are actually decent. Decent bass too. They even came with free earbuds, but I hate those too.

Check Target. I got a pair of Phillips ones for my Neo Geo Pocket Color and they sound bad ass.

They were on clearance for like 10 a week ago

Yeah, my last discman was an RCA and it was a champ. This Philips has never sounded as good as the RCA, though it's got a great read laser on it. Even with the shock protection turned off, it's very difficult to jar it enough to skip. Hence, why it's Jogproof...but you get my point.

For under $25 with a headband I would recommend the Koss SportaPro. It has great bass response and sound quality for the price. Like all Koss phones it also has a lifetime warranty, so if they break you can send them back to koss with $6 for shipping and get a new pair. I have a PortaPro, which uses the same drivers as the SportaPro, and I like it almost as much as the Grado SR-80. The downside is that they aren't exactly the prettiest headphones. Also, they are open headphones and leak sound, so they don't work so well in quiet environments.

A good site for headphone advice:

Thanks for the great replies, everyone. Now that I have some specific brands and models to check out I'll do some more research. Right now I'm leaning toward those Koss SportaPros - their freq response is 15-25,000 Hz, which is pretty awesome for $25 headphones. In the meantime I'm also going to give my Sony MDR-V150s another shot with my Philips discman...

Yea, the 150's fucking rock, but they present a problem for me. My couch is too far from my reciever, so I cannot use them easily. I'm hijacking here, but are there any good (read: cheap) headphone extension cables? I figure I would need the cord to be about 3 or 4 feet longer to use them comfortably.
