The publisher which has been in financial turmoil for the past few years is now having problems finding a commercial banking facility. They have a letter of intent to borrow $30 Million, and their current arraingement with GMAC Commercial Finance will expire on 8/4/04.

An Acclaim spokesperson is quoted as saying, "Failure to obtain a new banking facility would materially adversely affect the company's operations and liquidity, and the company could be forced to cease operations or seek bankruptcy protection"

The only thing that kept them alive was the explosion of the WWF license way back when, and their clinging to wrestling titles since. They were in serious trouble before that WWF Warzone or Raw game came out on the PSX.

i think 3do's closing should have been enough of a sign for them that they needed to up their game quality.

the only reason i can see this sucking is that legends of wrestling 3 looked like a good improovment, and it sucks their wont be a 4th

The last two games I bought by them was XGRA and Gladiator , I enjoyed both, with that said I would be sad to see them go.

I checked out their list of titles that they have published throughout the years and I am guilty for their financial problems as the only games I own that Acclaim published were a few games I got free for dreamcast, That Ecco-Dolphin crap fest, 18 wheelter,

Or perhaps Acclaim was destined for this..their fortune tied to Mary Kate and Ashly olson (can't remember which one is in rehab)

as the Olsons go so goes acclaim.

smell, your post coupled with your sig is such irony, because acclaim is around in part thanks to the 1997-1998 wrestling fad of the nwo and stone cold, as well as the sucess of warzone, attitude, and southpark were all vey good sellers for acclaim

well you know i did enjoy the WWF games until smackdown came out and saw how crappy Attitude was. I never played the south park game though. i heard it was really bad so i stayed away

They made me play Batman and Robin. They should burn in hell!!!!!!!!!!!!

BUT, they did have a hand with the Burnout series, right? Those were good.

I'm in with most most people that say this is a good thing. Their games have been overall pretty crappy for a few years now, I htink the last on i got was Agressive Inline, which wasn't bad, but it seems as though their lot of games gets progressive worse each year.

However, didn't they own the 100 Bullets rights? If so, that is a bit of a shame because I wanted to see how that would've been done.

I haven't played an Acclaim game since I was a wee one. Why, because the games suck. I'm not losing sleep over them going under.

Acclaim helped bring burnout 2 one of my all time favorite games. But EA took that game so I'm glad it's safe. I saw their room at E3 and there was nothing I wanted to play.

It seems that alot of the current generation titles that they had their names on was all as a Publisher, and not a developer (Burnout 1&2, Crazy Taxi), but their internally developed titles (Turok, Freestyle Street Soccer, ASB 05) have been stinkers.

My opinion is that they have the need to green light every title that goes into the early stages of production, possibly thinking that a red light would result in more of a loss than continued development and release of a sub-par product. Couple that theory with several lawsuits (Mirra, Olsen Twins, Class action by shareholders), SEC investigations, poor management, and a poorly percieved public image, it's a recipie for disaster.

Yes, 100 bullets was acclaim. Thats one of thse games that i was only interested in if it ended up good :) I was actually hoping they would do an almost cel shaded effect with darker colors (almost JSRF) to get the look of the book, not XIII style though.

and i forgot about aggressive inline, that was a really fun game.

they kicked ass on the Sega Genesis with their wrestling games but kind of died in the next gen era

If they do file bankruptcy (non chapter 11), I'd forsee the rights for 100 Bullets to be one of the hottest items on the IP auction block. I also wouldn't be surprised if Activision would pocket the rights for Agressive Inline, since it was somewhat of a decent game and they now own Z-Axis. Come to think of it, I wouldn't be surprised to see them try and snag the Mirra license as well, since it was another Z-Axis game, and IMO, Mirra is more recognizable than Mat Hoffman.

NBA Jam for the SNES were one of the games I used to play daily years ago.. only rented the remake, was kinda good actually.

I used to dig the ASB series until ASB 2004 came out, and I chose to go with Sega, which was eventually WSB.

Burnout 1 and 2 were pretty fun. I had a fun time beating through progress mode in single player. So many last second frustrations, like where I thought I had a game in the box, then a card catches up from far away. Ahhh, the memories.

LoW 2 I thought was decent.

Aggressive Inline was my first bargain Block Buster game. It was good.

If they do go bankrupt, it would be hard for me to swallow, they had some good and some bad game series / franchises.

I really don't believe that their going bankrupt will hurt the overall spectrum of the gaming business and gaming in general. They had some good titles, true, like Turok back int eh day, Burnout 1 and 2, the Mirra games weren't so bad, and Agressive inline, but they never had any true good games. This truely doesn't bother me. They should have realised years ago that going half-assed on all the products wouldn't get them any where. Your product and name have to be synonymous with good for the public to want to buy them. For instance, everybody says that (insert electronic manufactureer, *cough* Sony) makes excellent products, so they will buy the best. Not crappy second rate will do.
