Sorry if this was already posted, but Apple is giving away Ipods, ITMS gift cards, and a 20" iMac as they reach the amazing milestone of one billion paid and legal downloads.

You can enter with this http://www.apple.com/itunes/1billion/entryform if you don't want to make a purchase.

Prizes include a nano + $100 ITMS gift card for every 100,000th download from 950,100,000.

Grand prize is:

iMac, iPod, and iTunes Gift Card
1 20-inch iMac
10 60GB iPods (5 white/5 black)
1 U.S. $10,000 iTunes Music Card (good for any media type)

Thanks. I entered. And apparently you're limited to 25 entries per day. Curious to know if it's possible to find what Download they're on at a certain time.

Not sure how accurate that is, or what the lag time is between the counter and your actual order. About the only thing I can guess is that as the counter gets closer to the next 100,000th, then the order rate ramps up considerably.

I'd guess that the counter isn't accurate and it's just extrapolating on a calculated download rate. It always seems to be going the same speed and I doubt that people are ordering music constantly at that speed all day every day. It'd be interesting to watch it and see if it does actually change sometimes and jump at like 10 or 20 at a time.

And the recently downloaded album covers of course don't have to be accurate at all since they show up in threes when around 50 songs have been downloaded on the counter, so I'd guess that those are almost entirely random or just pick from popular ones.
