It's interesting how people vilify Hot Topic items (not surprising, but interesting). The questions that stems from this, of course, is this: what are the appropriate methods of acquiring a metal/band shirt? If one assumes that, by shopping at Hot Topic, some semblance of "authenticity" (maybe something else? dignity?) is sacrificed, then what means of buying shirts/items give authenticity? This kinda comes from a discussion in a book on straight edge that a sociologist wrote that I'm finishing up at the moment. He talks about clothing in much the same way.

Xevious, what is that signature image of? I can't stop watching it.

I dont know where its from- I saw it on myspace the other day and I thought it was great to incorporate it here.

I do recall there is a reality show called "So you can think you can dance?" and I am guessing its from there. Its only a guess though...

Metal Boss, why don't you take your nit picking bullshit to Blabbermouth where it belongs.

When I was in High School a friend got a 100% on a D.A.R.E. test and they gave him a D.A.R.E. duffel bag. Two years later, a drug dealer that was a friend of ours at the time asked to borrow something to transport 2kg of cocaine in and he handed over his D.A.R.E. bag. He brought it back to him with an oz of weed in it as a thank you.

Well, I'm dropping it. I've stated all that needs to be said and can't say anymore. Anything else he says is just gonna be trolling in my eyes...

He just seems to think that I'm shitting on the music that those bands have put out. Which I'm not. While I like Dissections music, I don't like what Jon has done/did or anything else, other than his music. Its the same with other artisits, I may not like them as a person and what they do in their free time, but I respect them as a musician. Only time I hate someone both as a person and as an "artist" are little bitches like Britney Spears and people like her.

As for my dislike of Varg, I just have a disdain and no tolerance for people that spout off white power rhetoric

I can admit a bit of unfounded anger, but I just see what you said as disrespectful.

I could clearly see that you mean well by saying you respect him as a musician, but you really do seem to have your facts skewed, read a little bit into the man, please.

Sure, I can understand that, but you know what, Fuck varg! I didn't have anything to say about him.

1st:
I didnt know they sold Death shirts at Hot Topic?! Do they have one with the cover "Scream Bloody Gore"?

2nd:
I dont approve of this metalhead-on-metalhead violence in this thread. Can't we just all get along???:-|

Only Death shirt they had at mine was the logo in silver. They also had some Cannibal Corpse, and a few other REAL metal bands.

I give it a few months before Chuck Schuldiner is added to the list of RIPs with Cobain and Dimebag. The Death shirt at Hot Topic is just the beginning.

By four o'clock I've discounted suicide in favor of killing everyone else in the entire world instead.

Saw GWAR sunday night guys. The headlining bands sucked, except for maybe 2 cents, because they played Raining Blood and Mandatory Suicide at the end of their set. The blood spray from GWAR was great. not only because it was fake blood being sprayed, but also it cooled us down in the humid venue. I will definitely see GWAR again if they come down to Maryland or Pennsylvania. I wore a white t-shirt to the show as a souvenir, after the show it looked like a tye dye t-shirt, i'll try to post pics.

^^^Gwar is always a good time. I haven't REALLY liked any of their albums since Ragnarok, but they're still worthwhile.

Re: Dissection...

I just heard about this death TODAY. My metal-self ain't what it used to be. I've got more important stuff on my mind like porn, YTMND moderating, and work. Probably in that order.

Storm of the Light's Bane was absolutely one of my favorite albums in high school. Awesome.

I saw them live right around the time it came out, I had never heard of them before that. I remember cracking up at the corny "Where Dead Angels Lie" title when he screamed it into the microphone.

The satanic element of the death metal fanbase is always entertaining, and it's fun to see their feedback on this stuff....to wit:

Hails!

Now gone forever, he was once the most
visible spokesman of SETIAN concepts and
ideals. He was truly a DREAD MAGICIAN of the
highest order.

Damn - a Dread Magician...and he was just TWO DAYS away from leveling up to a Grim Necromancer. : (

The first time i saw GWAR was in Athens GA. Walking back to the dorm covered in blood and gore on a Saturdaynight, when most everyone else walking home that time of night was drunk, was interesting. I got some stares, that's for sure. Later on I saw them again there and the show got shut down part way through, that was one of the instances that spawned "Penis I See" and the Cuttlefish is missing movie. We saw them opening night of one leg of the America Must Be Destroyed tour, and again the next night; during--and in-the pit of the opening band, Techno Destructo was asking for our feedback on the previous night's show.

I liked We Kill Everything, but their last couple albums/shows have been somewhat disappointing. But still worth a see :)
interesting tidbit: last time I saw them, I thought the two opening bands sucked as well [Watch Them Die and Bad Acid Trip.]

Dude, me and my friends walked into a 7-11 right after the show, this was at like 12:30 AM. We asked the cashier if she'd heard of GWAR, she nodded and said yes with a smile on her face. Haha but she might of did that to get us the hell out.

Funny thing is that for quite sometime, GQAE was banned from playing in their hometown in Richmond, VA. I remember an ex of mine in Richmond once told me that hes been served coffee by one of the GWAR girls at a place called World Cup there

Why am I the last person on earth to find out The Accused not only reformed (not much of a surprise, given The Fartz' reformation two years prior), but released a new album!?!?!

Yep - they got around it by playing as "RAWG" without the costumes.

Oderus Urungus - SUPER GENIUS.

Techno Destructo was asking for our feedback on the previous night's show.

One time while talking to him at a comic convention, I was hoping to start trouble by asking him what he thought of Green Jello. He said he throught they were great though, so MISSION FAILED. Not that I disagreed with him.

I liked We Kill Everything, but their last couple albums/shows have been somewhat disappointing. But still worth a see :)

Same. From Scumdogs to Ragnarok, I thought they were fucking geniuses. Carnival of Chaos and We Kill Everything were not quite up to that level, but still worthwhile. Everything SINCE then though has been really disappointing to me. I know they wanted to ditch some of the goofier, more experimental stuff...but that's why I LIKED them. To me, now, they sound like just another metal band. Since Devin Townsend (!!) is produced the new album I have higher hopes...although the Alice Cooper cover they've released already is mediocre.

I guess if I want my fix of goofier Gwar stuff, there's always DBX...I just kind of doubt Oderus is really dedicated to that enough to put out a third album. Plus, DBX is almost ALL dicking around...Gwar's early through late 90's stuff was great music WITH funny stuff.

I don't own any GWAR albums but I saw them live twice and they put on a very entertaining show.

Also, I saw X-Cops which is a side project of some of the GWAR guys in which they sing songs relating to police brutallity (One song I remember is called 'Pady-Wagon Rape'). Back then, I had this stoner chick roomate who slept with one of them; She was kinda of a groupie type which I thought was weird because they were all wearing costumes...

$20 for a Darkthrone shirt is a bit too much.

$4 for a Sword album is just right though.

Oh man, X-Cops rocked [I think there were a couple members of another band with XCops]. I saw GWAR at the Lakewood Exhibition in Atlanta, and we had no idea who the opening bands were, the ticket didnt' even show it. First band was not very memorable, then after a break, came a police siren and flashing lights and these cops burst out started thrashing. I was like "Okay, this is fricking awesome". *Then* after an hour or so of the Xcops, and a brief intermission, GWAR came out. Once I found out who the XCops were, I admired the guys even more for doing it twice in one night. It took me like six months to find their CD.
That was a cool show. I got thrown on stage from crowdsurfing [then very roughly thrown back off stage], which is new for me, I don't normally do that. Techno Destructo was selling shirts, it was the "Shit Hits the Fans" tour, I got him to sign mine.

Been to a concert lately? I think the cheapest t-shirt I've seen was 15, and they've gone up to 30 or 35, and of course lots more if you buy the hoodie or sweatshirt etc. Bad enough tickets for popular artists are 40-100 bucks, if you can even get them. Goes to show why I've been to two concerts in about five years [one was Alice Cooper, and as a rock/classic metal fan, I had to see one of the masters.]

Why haven't we talked about Dethklok Metalocalypse? It's probably the best show to be on Adult Swim besides Aqua Teen. Some Metal refrences, basically Spinal Tap but animated. Oh and James Hetfield and Kirk Hammet doing voices for some characters now and then, Kirk hammet does a good job sounding like an old woman...too good...hmm?
