This looks F'ing sweet:

Over 140 Marvel characters come together in Activision, Inc’s. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, an all-new action/RPG that features the largest roster of comic book characters ever seen in a video game. Players assume the roles of more than 20 Marvel Super Heroes including Spider-Man, Wolverine, Blade and Captain America, and through their actions determine the fate of both planet Earth and the Marvel universe – revealed in one of multiple epilogues.

“Marvel: Ultimate Alliance delivers a new twist on action/RPGs where players’ actions and choices ultimately determine what happens to the Marvel universe,” states Will Kassoy, Vice President of Global Brand Management for Activision. “This coupled with the game’s enormous character roster will deliver an action-packed experience that comic book fans have been waiting for.”

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance features a deep, rich gameplay experience by offering total team customization, where players create their own team name, icon and vehicle, as well as establish their team reputation as they play throughout the story. Gamers also have the option to level up each character individually to their liking, or all team members at the same time to keep their heroes balanced. With the game’s new combat system, players battle against the world’s most notorious Marvel Super Villains in the air, underwater, and on the ground, using grappling, blocking and dodging moves, by charging up their Super Hero powers before unleashing them, and using environmental objects as one and two-handed weapons.

Marvel: Ultimate Alliance features a unique storyline where the missions players accept, the objectives they complete, and their interactions with other characters throughout the game directly impact how the story plays out. The game also features a robust multiplayer component where fans can band together with friends as their favorite Marvel Super Heroes, and fight evil in both on and offline cooperative story modes. There’s also a Competitive Mode where the game tracks various in-game stats so players can see how well they stack up against one another – affecting the amount of experience points earned and how equipment is distributed.

Created by Raven Software and C.B. Cebulski, Marvel: Ultimate Alliance will be the first Super Hero game out for all next-gen gaming systems, and will also be available on current-gen, handheld and PC platforms. The game is currently rated RP (Rating Pending) by the ESRB and is planned to ship this fall.

Sweet!
This may be just the ticket to get my son to forgive me for trading in SW:BF2 when I got the 360 only to find it to be BC two weeks later.

His guy is Captain America. Hopefully, I can be the Vision.

Avengers Assemble !

EDIT: A thought just came to mind. How many people over XBL shouting "I'm the Juggernaut, bitch!" ?

After I read "features over 140 Marvel characters" I was sold.

Then I was double sold after reading "Action/RPG," I fucking loved both X-Men Legends games.

i guess im the only one who feels this marvel license is being diluted ever more. It's like some marketing genius pitched his product while watching X-men legends II and thought, if i replace all those characters with marvel people and ramp up the total to 100+, i'll bet those 10-20 youngsters will lap it up.

activison marketing dood:
"screw the backstory of all the marvel characters, don't worry about the poly count, and fuck the story---i just want that superficial sandbox."

maybe im in the minority.

In the Game Informer issue with Red Steel they had an article that confirmed Spiderman, Captain America, Ghost Rider, Dr. Strange, Wolverine, Thor, Silver Surfer, and Elektra as playable characters. This website confirmed Thing and Blade too. That makes 10 so far.

Also shown in the magazine article was a level with an ENORMOUS Galaktus trampling the city in the background, a boss fight against Scorpion, and a CGI image of Dr. Doom.

Unlike the X-Men Legends games, every playable character is going to be highly individualized. For example, Wolverine has a beserk bar that fills over time an enables him to go on a rampage (which no one else has). Spiderman has the ability to swing across the levels rapidly. Most of Elektra's attacks use her trademark weapons.

Just a bit cynical there sononkyo. I agree, a dedicated Avengers Legends or Defenders Legends might have more continuity to it, but from a marketing standpoint, a company would be better off putting as many Name brand heroes as they can. Who really wants to play Rom Spaceknight Legends? Activision knows it's a sure hit by including as many faves as possible...and there'll still be complaints about why Angel isn't in the game.

Activision should be applauded for developing a game that includes more than just mutants. It appears, and I'll keep my fingers crossed, that you'll have more control over which characters are part of your team. XML and XMLII had plenty of characters I could care less about (Jubilee?). But, it was always fun to play through again using different team combinations. I look forward to seeing how the teamups pan out.

I see your sandbox, but it's not likely to see this many playable characters in it, the way video game developers work, again. Anways, not a flame, just a thought.

I'd be more excited if those 140 characters were supposed to be playable.

Isn't 20 characters roughly the amount as in X-Men Legends II?

So this is just X-Men Legends with Marvel people instead?

Awesome, can't wait. Hope it comes out to PSP, since X-Men Legends 2 PSP was fucking awesome.

I'd say its a safe bet.

needs cel-shading and good animation...they look like action figures.

Looks cool, just hope the battle system is sucky.
I kinda have a feeling there will be more than 20. It says MORE than 20, and it says Blade is a playable character. Blade is cool and all, but there are more popular guys than him around. So this may mean good things, I'm hoping for 50-60 playable but that may be just day dreaming. 2 of the guys that I like are already announced, and I have high hopes that a few of my other favs will be announced. So, I'm happy.
needs cel-shading and good animation...they look like action figures.
Haha yeah just noticed that. I really hope this doesn't turn out like Fantastic Four (either the movie or the game, they both sucked).

The Game Informer with the Revoultion controller on the cover(this months?) says that Dr. Strange and Thor are playable as well.

fuck. I must be on more ignore lists than I thought. Ah well, that's the price I pay for being a comedic genious.

well, if they didnt put Thor in there, it would be blasphemy
well, if they didnt put Thor in there, it would be blasphemy
That is very true, but I hope they dont over power him too much. And Hulk might be fun to toss in the mix as well.

But I am still waiting on Captain Marvel(Shazam!) to get his own game. Wrong universe I know, but he's still hardcore.

They should at least just throw in all the characters that were playable in XML 2. I want storm and rogue. It's basically sold to me if it's like XML 2, but they could of put way more people in than just 20. To tell the truth I don't really even care if the palette swap a few, just let me choose my favorites together at the begining and I'm cool.

You'll see Rogue and Storm in the game, for sure.

I don't want to see anything like X-Men Legends. I want to see something that isn't top-down dungeon crawling, and, most importantly, something with deep combat mechanics -- like a beat-'em-up with moves and power-ups appropriate to each characters.

XL2's combat was pretty shallow, especially the hand-to-hand stuff.
fuck 140 characters, I want 500 characters. Slapstick and The corpse of Nick Katzenberg OR ELSE
You're the shit for mentioning Slapstick. I was under the assumption I was the only man on Earth who knew who he was. I still have the comics tucked away in my closet, too.

Has the Big Red Cheese ever even been included in any game ?
Has the Big Red Cheese ever even been included in any game ?
Sadly, I dont think so. And I don't think he could have his own game, he's just too tough of a character to translate. But it would still be sweet to see him in a game and the final boss be Black Adam... But again, I do think that though playing as the Captain would be fun, it could also spell disaster to the "casual fans".

But on topic- As it was mentioned, the level with Galactus stomping around in the background(skrull planet I believe...) sounds awsome. Just sitting there playing through that level and seeing him in the background... you cant help but feel overwhelmed by his presence. Damn, this game is gonna be so pimp, I just hope the 360 version is worth the extra $10.
Needs more Young Avengers and Runaways. :D
You are a wise, wise, man.

Just to bump this up to date some....naw, I'm not geekin' out over this one.

IGN has an E3 update on this game and it is looking sweet!

http://ps2.ign.com/articles/707/707596p1.html

Nice screenshots and a trailer video. Looks like Silver Surfer will be playable on the Galactus level. Apparently, they beefed up the fighting system from XL2. Multiple unlockable costumes, which is how you upgrade-- each newcostume has different powers/moves (or each new set of moves comes with a "new look" for your character). Bonuses for using the same characters or team. You can even name your custom team! Anyways, don't take it from me, read up at the above link!
If we get our own little CAG Ultimate Alliance going for this game and we start doing some Co-op...I call dibs on Spidey
