What the hell is with this new word filter? These filters aren't doing the site any good. Shaq-fu is getting really stupid... and now... E.T. in place of FAG-GOT? Give it a rest, will ya? Some words just need to be said. Besides... if people search for porn (the supposed reason for the shaq-fu filter), come up with cheapassgamer.com and then buy something through one of your links (be it donkey porn or a new video game), there's really no harm done. That can't really be the true reason for these ridiculous filters.

Why do people find it necessary for a forum to allow cursing and obscenity to be a good forum? If you can't make a point without using profanity.. buy a 'Word-A-Day' calender and expand your vocabulary.

The forum is very open.. if he feels it necessary to filter out certain vulgarities.. that doesn't make it a stricly moderated, closed forum.

A word filter is equal to being moderated - so YES the boards are getting sctrictly moderated when it comes to speech.

I have not made any changes to the word filter recently...all those changes were made around the same time shaq-fu was implemented.

But I think the main question should be, does it really matter?

The filter's purpose is to limit the use of swearing and hate speech. I recognize it will not be 100% all encompassing nor do I care that much about it that I'm going to pull my hair out over it (heh heh).

If you have to use these words (example: you are telling a story or something), I'm sure you can find ways around the filter. Its not like I'm coming after you ala GameFAQs because you wrote fu

I like the way Cheapy is using crappy video game titles as substitutes for offensive words. It amuses me (althought I did think E.T. was some new slang I hadn't heard before the first time I saw it).

Is Superman 64 used for anything yet?

The problem was that, for the given reason of using filters, it didn't make any sense to add a new one to that particular word. Besides, I was telling a story about something shitty that happened to me that day, that was *purely* about the word and why it was screamed at me at around 35 miles per hour.

So after these points are made clear *again* it is obvious you are a dumbass. Hooray!

That was one of the wonderful things I learned during the various summer vacations I'd have in NY with my family. What a great thing to pick up, eh?
 
Somehow I'm pretty sure the people having a problem with two words being filtered out are much younger than the people that seem to realize that a. there's a good reason for it and b. its not a big deal in the least.

I agree. Seriously, give the man a break. Topics like this one are what happens when deals like the CC one fizzle and there is no 400 post Cloudspekk topic to keep the idle hands busy. Its the price you pay for a successful, active community.

Still, its almost worth starting a trade and ripping someone off to keep everyone off Cheapy's case.
