Former Governor McGreevy (D) NJ Admits Anonymous Gay Sex at Truck Stops

CAGiversary!
You'd think I made this up for April Fool's Day. Talk about delivering on a whole slew of increased "constituant services".

MCGREEVEY'S GAY ROAD THRILL

MEMOIR BARES HIGHWAY HOOKUPS

By DAN MANGAN

May 22, 2006 -- Jim McGreevey shockingly admits that before he became governor of New Jersey, he'd have anonymous gay sex at Garden State highway rest stops.

"All I knew was that my behavior was getting crazier and crazier," McGreevey says of his torrid truck-stop trysts in an upcoming book that details his tortured life of lies and sexual repression.

"With each new encounter, I was getting nearer and nearer to being caught - which surely would have generated headlines, especially after I became executive director of the state parole board" in the mid-1980s.

"The closet starves a man, and when he gets a chance he gorges till it sickens him," he writes in his book, titled "The Confession."

McGreevey revealed to The Post that he spent time in a psychiatric hospital at an Episcopalian monastery in the Hudson Valley after his stunning resignation as governor in 2004.

And he describes in the book his fruitless attempts to conquer or hide his homosexuality by ogling Playboy centerfolds, frequenting strip clubs and becoming "as avid a womanizer as anybody else on the New Jersey political scene."

"The more the rumors circulated, the more public and brazen I became about my heterosexual conquests," the twice-married father-of-two writes.

All that came to naught when he resigned amid rumors of an affair with a male appointee, Golan Cipel. He then declared proudly, "I am a gay American,"

His wife, Dina, and his parents stood at his side.

His turgidly written tale, whose subject matter sometimes seems better suited to a sleazy dime-store paperback than to a former governor's memoir, is due to be published next fall by Regan Books.

Excerpts from the tome - for which McGreevey reportedly will be paid up to $500,000 - were printed yesterday by The Star-Ledger of Newark after the newspaper obtained them at a publishing-industry convention in Washington.

McGreevey, who is now separated from Dina, currently lives with his boyfriend, financial adviser Mark O'Donnell.

McGreevey writes that he was aware he was gay at a young age. While his parents' working-class Irish-Catholic identity comforted him, he knew "deep down . . . that this American ideal excluded me."

At one point, he told The Post, he considered entering the Catholic priesthood because he hoped its vow of chastity would solve the dilemma.

He also writes that while he had a "great number of heterosexual experiences" while attending St. Joseph's all boys high school in Metuchen, "I can't say I was interested in girls sexually."

"Yet I liked the physical contact, craved it even," McGreevey writes.

In 1983, while attending a political conference in Atlantic City that was rife with sexual pick-ups, McGreevey got soused in an Irish pub and had an epiphany.

"I knew I would have to lie for the rest of my life - and I knew I was capable of it. The knowledge gave me a feeling of terrible power," he writes.

McGreevey felt such shame, he writes, that he "split in two" - living on the one hand a life "that stands for tradition and values and America," and another life that he pretended to ignore as "something spoiled, something disgusting."

But that duality only made his problem worse, and also made his forays into the world of illicit sex more risky and degrading.

"In my case it went from the simple passions of a young adult - for physical and romantic love and happiness - to a particularly rank, unfulfilling variety of lust. I felt it get ranker and less fulfilling with each passing year," he writes.

McGreevey longed to have a healthy relationship with another man, "with someone I love," whom he could kiss, hug and with whom he could plan a life together.

"I used to make long lists of guys I had crushes on, scribbling their names like a teenager," he writes. "But I never allowed my conquests to be anything like that.

"As glorious and meaningful as it would have been to have a loving and sound sexual experience with another man, I knew I had to undo my happiness step by step as I began chasing my dream of a public career and the kind of 'acceptable' life that went with it.

"So instead, I settled for the detached anonymity of the bookstores and rest stops - a compromise, but one that was wholly unfulfilling and morally unsatisfactory."

And this would be why repression is bad.

Not that heterosexual men don't have anonymous sex with who-the-fuck-ever, but the guy apparently went a little crazy in an attempt to hide his homosexuality.

I don't think if he was gay in and of itself it would be a bad thing and make him unelectable in and of itself.

However cruising truck stops for sex is about as low on the gay totem pole as you can go.

McGreevy's biggest problem isn't that he was gay. It was that he was corrupt as all hell and that was why he resigned. He then threw out that he was gay during the resignation period as a way to mask his complete failure as a public official.

He tried to wash away his political problems in being part of a repressed minority and gain sainted status merely because he was gay. He sought a halo effect from a PC group that was supposed to be immune from criticism or a semblance of wrong doing.

The reality is his political disgrace had nothing to do with the fact that he outed himself or was in dnger of being outed.

Now this comes out and he's an even more disgraceful human being.

"HA-ha! He was gay! HA! HA! He engaged in the not so uncommon act of anonymous sex long before he was an elected official, but I'll throw a 'constituent services' gag in there anyways, who cares, he's GAY! HA! HA! FREEPER POWER!!!!11!

"

That's how it's gaybashing.

If I remember correctly, in Jersey we were told to never stop at the rest areas became they become so cruisy in the 80's and 90's. So popular in fact that it couldn't have just been the deviants and scumbags, but most certainly would have had to have been your run of the mill closeted gay guys as well, eventually they had to shut them down.

Your reading comprehension is incredibly bad if that's what you think passes as a direct quote.

Its gay bashing because if he was straight and spent his time cruising bars and picking up drunk chicks nobody would give it a second thought. If a politician confessed that he had spent a lot of time in a brothel, or hired hookers to give him BJs in a back alley, it wouldn't be a story on the slowest news day of the year. Because its gay sex, though, it becomes a big deal.

If you're going to go out of your way to post stories to make Democrats look bad, at least post important ones, like the LA congressman who seems to have taken a 100k bribe. Attacking people for what they do in their private lives is just pathetic.

I don't see why anyone bothers with PAD. He's obviously a bigoted homophobe who never supports anything he says with evidence and typically resorts to ad hominem attacks when confronted with his bullshit.

Hell, we also have the Louisana Democrat who, when searched by the FBI, was storing $90,000+ in his freezer. Obviously he loved cold, hard cash . Hell of a place to keep your bribes don't you think?

Then we have the former NJ Senator linked to the UN Oil for Food scandal. He was also kicked out of office for malfeasence.

If you want to stay out of personal lives, fine, I can respect that.

There's plenty of sleaze to go around in the Democrats "culture of corruption" but the crusing for men at truck stops was just damn funny shit.

How far up the pole are you? Do you ever slide down the pole for the little people?

theres a diference between being gay and acting normal and looking for attention for being gay.

Does anyone notice that if it was a str8 guy writing a book about his sex life and he had sex with females at truck stops that he wouldve left that part out and just focused on sexual RELATIONSHIPS?

Honestly those quotes sound like there writen by a sex predator he shoudlnt be representing anyone he cant even represent himself properly and admits it it makes the presidents coke tails sound like a walk in the park.

He should be be forced to step down and lose his job...so he can go back to the truck stops :hot:

Great job following the news. He stepped down as governor over a year ago, actually its probably close to 2 years ago now.

Considering PAD trolls the 'net looking for large chicks makes his finding humor in McGreevy's pick ups all the more sad.

The surfing of PAD

Ha, Ha that loser has to go to truck stops to find lovin

3 secs later....

let's check on largegirls.com and see if anyone replied to my post..

I don't really think it's any of my business what PAD's sexual interests are, but is this just a meaningless running joke, or is there actually some truth behind it? I never really understand these references.

Cheese, it doesn't take much common sense to realize if someone is playing the role of lot lizard at the Flying J or Truckstop America they're pretty much gutter slime.

Oh so now you're admitting you know which truck stops gay guys frequent.

The plot thickens! Tell me Paddy, where were you in the late 80's and early 90's?

This whole thread is pretty pitiful. All of you are making me fucking sick, from those of you asserting that it isn't McGreevy's sexuality that bothers you, it's his hiding it (you ain't sellin' me that bridge of bullshit, I know you're afraid of homosexuality being normalized), to those of you trying to suggest or mock another person for their sexuality, as if that has any bearing on a person's character (short of forcible sexual deviance, of course).

You're all assholes, and this topic is another unnecessary pedantic assault on McGreevy. He stepped down for the scandal of favortism and provision of benefits to unqualified people. That doesn't make him any kind of political standout (any one of us can think of a dozen pisspoor cronies given positions of power on whichever party we dislike), and he's already stepped down. Leave the sumbitch alone. And, I suggest, this includes just not buying his fucking book.

I'll be honest here in that I'll admit that I myself am gay, and I agree that the freaks that cruise truck stops and rest stops are the lowest form. I honestly hate those types. I used to live near where a "hot spot" in Norfolk was/is; and everytime I drove by on my way to work or home and saw cars just parked there it makes me sick. More often than not, they're married, which makes it even worse. In my opinion, you made your choice, now live with it.

Sorry mykey but if he's peddling a book about his experiences that have come up in news articles and are the plot of its book it's fair game.

This isn't like some investigative reporter found a trucker(s) that claimed to have an affair or encounter with the guy. That kind of stuff is complete BS. There's no need at that point to pile on the guy; he's gone, he's disgraced, he'll never be an issue again.

The guy did step down, he was corrupt, he was a bad governor.

However a public figure like this, when trying to profit from his seedy past, makes it an issue? It's an issue of discussion.

I'd leave him alone if he was asking to be left alone. He's not. He's seeking the spotlight for these encounters.

i'm dying to know how you became such an incredible dolt.

it's not the story.

it's in the presentation, and don't aw shucks like you dont' know what you're doing

just be out there with it my man

feel your hate and display it proudly

you would at least get a little more respect

and don't knock anonymous sex at truck stops until you've tried it, you frigid bitch

Hate? The only thing I hate is a corrupt governor seeking pariah status because he's gay.

He never sought any shelter from the gay community, no support, didn't fight to make it a campaign issue or make it a platform of his elected office.

When it came time for him to step down because he'd been exposed as a complete political hack and forced to resign only then did he seek support as a protected PC group. It's the duplicity of the whole thing that I hate.

If I hated gay politicians or gay people in general there's a lot easier targets than this buffoon.

I mean, I could go on and on about how Barney Frank was letting one of his lovers run a male escort business out of his Congressional office.

Corrupt is corrupt and this guy is lower than whale shit on every level. Not only was he a failure as a politician he was a failure as a person, husband and father. Now he hopes to profit from his disgusting life from book sales.

There's a whole lot to hate there.

Just plain ewwwwwwwww.

PAD pulled down his PKzipper until his phallic phalange was fully freed. He couldn't believe this was the moment The Pripp3rman would come out of, or into, his closet. Pripp3r latched onto his lingam, longingly licking the love organ.

Mykes mascerating mandible could barely contain the culminating coitus on display before him. He dared not peek, and swore he would not, but the urge was too enormous, and the payload too sweet.

PAD let loose in the light, and mykes spread fingers allowed a glimpse of the concocktion as it spewed into the ether. The smell of saline filled the room and all were satisfied, especially PAD who had been beaten senseless yet again.

Thats got to be one of the sickest things I've read on here. I don't even want to know why you even thought that to write in the first place...
