Will anyone miss Acclaim?

Thunderscope

CAGiversary!
Today IGN anounced they face Nasdaq delisting, and Acclaim said earlier this month they may have to file for bankruptcy. They lost thier MLB licenses so no more ASB and they owe alot of money to alot of people. It looks bad for them. Will anyone miss them when their gone? I wont, they never had anything really worth a crap. They had Burnout which is gone, and the Sega License for Crazy Taxi, but thats about it for this generation, their average game raiting is like 5.4 so they are not a important player...

Id miss Acclaim, even though their ASB series was the only thing I really enjoyed from them lately. They kicked ass on N64, but didn't put near as much effort into their next-gen Shadowman and Turok sequels.

Well, if they still had the Burnout franchise, then yes, but since EA has it, I don't think I would miss it that much. Acclaim has had one of the worst streaks of bombs out of any company other than perhaps Titus. I thought they had actually turned things around in the N64 era, with some great games such as the Turok series, Forsaken (I liked it, I'm not sure about everyone else), and Extreme G. Starting with this current generation, Acclaim's quality in games has slid slowly. Extreme G3 was good, Aggressive Inline was a refreshing entry into the extreme sports market, and the Burnout series was (and is) great, but the Turok series didn't leave a great impression in the current generation, and the new franchises floundered.

I'm not sure that Acclaim will dissolve. I think a company may come and acquire Acclaim and their assets (but which also comes with financial problems). However, 3D0 just went bankrupt suddenly, and everything they were to publish was auctioned (Namco now has 3D0's SRS).

Would I miss them? No, as they weren't a big player in the field. Occasionaly they would have a good game, but this company used way too many gimmicks to get their product across. This is also the company that published one of the biggest duds of all time, Total Recall. Plus, after they decided to do the chicken route of not supporting the Gamecube (like a few other companies have), and that seemed to be the last straw for me.

NOt really since the Burnout franchise has left there ownership. They weren't bad on the N64 with their wrestling games at the time, but when you compare it to the THQ Smackdown series, well it just blows it away. I hope they auction off there assets and Aggressive Inline gets a good home. That was a fun game as well as a fresh face in the extreme sport genre. everybody had a skateboarding and biking, but nobody had inline skating or had done it well.

I have several great cheap acclaim games (especially from CC), so ya I'll miss em. ASB 2004 was an amazing game, in fact I'd say it's probably the best baseball game ever, especially if you're into MLB nostalgia. I'll also miss Turok a bit, although towards the end the Turok series really weakened. Turok 2 is still one of the greatest FPS ever though.

I'm going to miss them mainly for the stuff they did during the 16-bit era. So many GREAT games were published by them during that time. It's a wonder none of you mentioned those.

I haven't bought a single Acclaim game in the last couple of years because none of them really did it for me. Aggressive Inline was cool, as was Extreme G3, but the only one I was really interested was Turok and that kinda flopped.

Out of curiousity, did they publish the new NBA Jam?

Pretty much every game they put out is crap. But they still have the Dave Mirra license, so no more BMX games. But I'm going to miss Turok so much. It was my favorite game ever (sarcasm)

I just hope the Turok license goes to someone competent. The series has a solid concept, but it's always executed so flawed. I hope someone grabs it and farms it out to a good developer like Raven or Monolith.

Nope they have been putting out crap for the past 3 years it is like all of the games they make we based of the same engine. But in the end I will miss them in a way if they do disapear.

i won't miss them for any of the recent games they released, but in the genesis days they kicked ass!
