Australia - TRU Free Game w/ Preorder of PS3, Wii

I need to say "G'Day, mate" to this deal, as your link is for Toys R Us Australia. Now if it came with a free, autographed Wiggles photo, I'd be in...
At Toys R Us, if you plop down $50 now to preorder a ps3 or a wii you can get one free game for the console at launch. The downside, it doesn't say whether or not you get to choose the game.

Didn't you hear? The PS3 includes Precious Metals Simulator, so you can virtually handle the jewelry that you pawned to buy the system.
Can the powers that be please add an oceania region. At the moment there is nowhere for us to post!
I wouldn't really object to us being grouped as part of Asia - we are part of the Asian Football Confederation now, so that is good enough for me.

But if that were the case, the description of the Asia forum should be changed from "Japan, Korea, China, etc..." to "Japan, Korea, China, Australia, etc..." just to make things clear.

Either way, someone needs to specify where we are meant to post.

We are not part of asia fullstop. Are you thinking of the area Australasia? If so this refers to an area south of asia, specifically part of the region, oceania. I think our soccer federation decided it wanted to be known as the asian champions. Which we are...

There are five definative regions of the world (Taken from wikipedia):

Africa - Eastern, Middle, Nothern, Southern, Western.
Americas - Caribbean, Central, Latin, Nothern, South.
Asia - Central, Eastern, Southern, Southeastern, Western.
Europe - Eastern, Nothern, Southern, Western.
Oceania - Australia, Melanesia, Micronesia, New Zealand, Polynesia.

Well, the distinctions are a little blurrier than that. There is no agreed definition of Oceania, nor is there an agreed definition of South-East Asia. Historically, Australia was often not considered to be part of Oceania, with the region being defined as primarily consisting of the Pacific Islands and (sometimes) New Zealand. Also the matter is further confused with Australia often being considered a continent in its own right, rather than as a part of some other continental grouping. The notion of "Australiasia" is even more nebulous, with Wikipedia defining this as including Australia, New Zealand, some Pacific Islands and all of the island of Papua (including part of Indonesia), whereas other definitions exclude all of Papua and include Antarctica.

The Wikipedia groupings of countries are certainly not canonical. They are quite arbitrary, for example including West Papua as part of South-East Asia and East Papua as part of Oceania. Hence, these two regions are separated by an arbitrary political division rather than a geographical one.

I am happy to think of Australia as being linked to South-East Asia. We are certainly geographically closer to South-East Asia than to the main Pacific islands of Oceania. Most Oceanian nations have cultures that are heavily based on Polynesian tradition, whereas Australia does not. Also we are ever-more politically engaged with the ASEAN nations, being a member of the ASEAN-CER group and a dialogue partner in the East-Asia summit.

Australia is really an anomaly, and any categorisation of it will include some degree of politicisation. Personally, I tend to think of Australia as part of South-East Asia because that is where our economic, political and demographic future lies. However, a quick office poll shows that I am clearly in the minority.

But we need somewhere to post on these forums, and personally I don't care where it is as long as it is clearly defined.

Wow, I never knew it was that complicated. I can agree we are linked to south east asia but we not in south east asia. They are our closest neighbours and we have a long history together but we are differed entities. If we were to be categorised into asia on this forum I would lose no sleep because there are ties. But technically it is incorrect.

Australia is country in the continent Australia (smallest continet in the world, other countries are also in the Australian continent).

Or, we are part of the region Oceania as defined by 90% of the world.

Definitions are often much more useful if people simply accept them instead of constant pointless debate. Imagine if people could accept a definative format for the date.

I agree with you Sydney. It's a bit pointless to debate which region we are in. I don't mind Australia being categorised as part of Oceania, since that seems to be the standard grouping these days, but I think there is also a valid case for us to be considered an extension of South-East Asia. Either way we are basically a square peg in a round hole.

Back on-topic, it needs to be spelled out explicitly where we are meant to post on this forum, otherwise people will scream "POST IN THE RELEVANT FORUM" (as happened with this thread) despite there being no labelling to specify which forum is the correct one.
