Get 5.1 from the original xbox?

I just got a samsung 800 watt sound system setup. If i plug in the red/white/yellow cable into the back of it will i get surround sound from games?, or do i need a special cable?

You can use the standard A/V cables for surround sound. At least that what I did when I hooked my friend's sound system up and it worked perfectly.

Yes, you will get sound that way, but it won't be 5.1 surrround sound.

In order to get 5.1 sound, you need to use either the Advanced AV pack or the High Definition AV pack and connect it with an optical audio cable with a TOSLINK connection, which should be available anywhere that sells audio equipment.

exactly.... using just the red/white cables you'll get a simulated surround... which is just the exact same found from the front and back speakers.
