well first off they mention only 4 games in the US version which seems weird and also you would think they would both include their flagship game, but since NOJ isnt doing maybe NOA isnt doing it either.

It mentioned four of the included sports and nothing specific about how many were to be included in the game. As for the different packages, it can happen. We won't know for sure until tomorrow.

The article is back up for whoever said it was down.

Unless they offer some type of multilayer in VC I fail to see the worth of it. Why pay $5 for Metal gear or Duck tales  when you can get them other ways for free? Any why is boxing a Japanese exclusive?

The strap thing is a cool idea. Keeps me from killing a cat with an errant Wiimote.

3:19PM: A note on price of console:

To get a better idea of what 25,000 yen is in USD, one needs to take purchasing power parity into account. While the direct translation is around $215, the latest PPP data (found here: http://www.oecd.org/std/ppp) shows 81 units in Japan to equate 100 units in the USA.

That is: (25,000*(100-81)) = 29,750 yen. Converted, that's -> $252.89 USD.

This means the NY Times article may yet turn out to be true and the Wii could cost US$250 in North America.

Pricing info.

I still think Nintendo's previous pricing structure is a better estimate:

25000 yen (Wii JPN) * ($130 (DSLite US) / 16800 yen (DSLite JPN)) = ~$193

my guess = $200

I guess the NYT article still seems reasonably credible, but $200+$40 = $250? It seems like they should include another controller for that price (I already thought that, but their pricing certainly seems to support the idea), but that seems to be overcorrecting...

Ok, so there's still a few more hours to wait until we get the "Official" Launch/Price info for USA in NYC, then?

I know it's the NY Times, but it doesn't seem right that they would leak info like that.

Still, $249.99 on Nov 19th is really not surprising...

No idea what's going on, but the Mii channel seems cool.

That sounds like a good starting price. I just might get a Wii to start out with and wait for the PS3 to drop in price and work out the bugs. Wii! ^.^ I am sooo going to master Smash Bros Wii style.

Heard some stuff I knew I was gonna hear; heard some stuff I didn't want to hear.

I might pass on the whole launch day thing, now.

Wii Sports looks like dogshit, by the way. That's a bold, bold move not to package a tech-demo with the console.

15:30: The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, Odoru! Made in Wario, Wii Sports and Pokémon Battle Revolution will be available to the launching of Nintendo Wii in Japan.

15:11: 16 [games] Nintendo Wii of 10 different [publishers] will be available for the launching of the console to Japan. The prices will vary from 4.800 yens with 6.800 yens.

Interesting. I didn't think the Pokemon Battle game was that far along. The others aren't much of a surprise. $41 to $57 games with 16 to choose from sounds decent enough. I wonder what the rest of the Japanese launch games are. :-k

Wing Island looks pretty cool. I assume that will make its way over here as the Wii version of one of my all time favorites, Pilotwings.

So has the entire videogame industry now lost track of the voice of the gamers? It all started with Xbox 360 and their multiple SKUs at inflated prices and continued with the PS3 price and hardware shortages. The final nail in the gamer's coffin could very well be Nintendo's strategy.

Wow a nintendo weather channel and the depth in that character creation. Oh I forgot to mention I love getting emails from old men; probably from the girls grandfather.

Well, since the official Japanese site is up, I think that's it for updates until the US event. :)

As long as they have Trauma Center at launch day, I can bear the $250 price (if its true)

A few things:

Can anyone identify the game about, oh, 20 seconds in. Big guy made out yellow bricks, right before the first Red Steel part? Looks like you're slap boxing with people or something.

Can anyone identify the turnbased sorta game immediately after Red Steel?

Finally...the lamest thing I think I've said in a long time:

The interface looks really cool and I'm interested in the weather channel.

I feel shame.

A few points:

Yes, it would be nice if the VC pricing was cheaper. But it's pretty much what XBLA games are going for, so I'm not surprised. I'll give you three guesses what Sony will be charging for their service/games, and the first two don't count.

Same with the controller. OF COURSE the controller is gong to be more expensive than average. Seriously.

Yes, the Zelda delay is nuts. Freaking finish the thing already, guys. That said, it's still supposed to be out by the holidays, so the time frame from Nov. 19 to Xmas is ~ a month. Not the end of the world. And frankly, if it makes more people pick up third-party games on launch day, so much the better for Nintendo in the long run.

Lastly, I think quite a few of you people have let wishful thinking get the better of you. A late-November launch for $200 ($250 w/ pack-in, probably Wii Sports) has been the common consensus for months.

For the historical record, here's a quick-'n-dirty list of Wii price threads that have cropped up since May-ish. All I'll say is that some people got the price on the button, and reacted (positively or negatively) accordingly. Either way, that's fine. But some of you dumbasses crying "ZOMG Nintendoes is teh R.I.P!" are on record as saying $250 with a pack-in is a great price, and you'd get one on launch day, and other such silliness.

I gurantee you half of those titles could have easily been developed and looked the same on the NGC. This video makes me sick and even more pissed. By the time the life cycle ends for the Wii, a game developer will only be able to pull from it a title that might be on the same level as a 1st gen 360 title; this is a big maybe. I've always enjoyed Nintendo because their titles are fun, but to screw everyone on launch is absurd. If any of you don't think Nintendo is screwing you you're out of your mind. I will eventually own a Wii because I am a collector of all systems, but on lauch Wii will not get a dime from me.

Yeah. I'm oddly intrigued by the little sound effects the interface makes.

Also the whole Google Earth thing they got going on with the weather channel is surprisingly hip.

Finally, towards the end of the game video it looked like a Bishi Bashi Special game.

Dragon Quest. That enemy was in the E3 trailer if I remember correctly.
