Total thus far is $396, I'm planning on getting 512 DDR ram for $75 shipped (next paycheck), then it's onto the all important video card which is being researched thoroughly

Why buy a dvd-rom drive? Just get a dvd burner, they are quite inexpensive now, could probably pick one up for 10-20 more.
 
good buy, to bad you didnt say something before. I had some PNY PC4000 two sticks of 512 for $175 I just sold. They were cool because they had lights on them that said how much ram was being used and how hot the memory was.
 
thought about the dvd burner, but i don't really see myself burning anything, at least not until there is some dual layer media available, I just need the rom for now


That memory sounds awesome, but $75 is more in the budget for now

Its called a knockoff.

Alienware doesn't sell their cases separately.

how much are you planning on spending on a video card? if you are willing to shell out 200 bucks get the msi radeon 9800 pro(its actually an XT) at newegg.com
