I assume the PS3 just lets me add you to a friends list or something, right?
You have to send a request first it looks like and then they accept.

Mine is:
MrSocialism

I wouldn't have even bothered giving out my id if it wasn't for the fact that I can actually play Resistance on my college's incredibly bad network. No lag FTW!
Sent ya a request Marten :)
Haven't gotten it yet....got MrSocialism's, though.

This just in: Bluetooth headsets for phones work great on PS3's as well!

I'm pretty sure you did get mine, because it shows you and and it says "I want to music"

And I accepted your invite MrSocialism. :)

mine is JohnKeehyun.

Too bad you cant do anything while you are downloading demos etc. Feels like last gen firmware for the 360.

Send me an invite if you can.

Well....PS3s online is better than I hoped.....I expected them to crash on Launch day......we'll see when there are more PS3s out there.

What's the limit on Friend's Lists for PS3???

Can someone explain to me how PS3 online works (especially if you have used Live)

Is it really JUST like Live, but for free? If one guy is playing resistance, can another friend see hes playing, and invite him to a game of CoD3?

I want to know, because if Sony can put out a free online service similar to Live, it might make Microsoft reduce their price/give online away for free.

first off, i would like to applaud those of you who kept their ps3's. you guys are my heroes. my son and my brother camped out for two days only to find that they were number 11 and 12 at a walmart that received only ten systems (manager would not state how many they got). thursday night i joined them and met the 10 lucky bastards and got to watch them walk away with their golden tickets and all they could talk about was how much money they were going to make. ugh. it gets on my nerves but at least they are not making as much as they thought they would. haha! unfortunately, my copy of resistance will be collecting dust until i can get my hands on a system.
why the ps3 didn't come with headsets like the 360 did?
I guess to give people the "more options" they seem to crave all the time. Sony allows you to use your old PS2 headsets or go get one if you want. Or you can even use a wireless bluetooth headset, like those a lot of people have for their cell phones instead. I think you can even use any other headset you might have for your computer or laying around if it plugs into the USB port but I can't comfirm that.

>>Opps. Sorry to get off topic OP!

I dont have a ps3, I just came in here to say you guys are true gamers. Not many people (obviously) would give up that much money(cost of ps3 and potential ebay sales) or time to keep that system.
Here is a virtual pat on the back for being the biggest gamers on this website.
You go girl! ;P
- and no, I'm not being sarcastic. I really am impressed.
So can anyone answer my question? Is it set up like Live? Universal names, or set names for each game....or what?
Its a universal buddy list and name which like a 360 you choose an avatar

So you can see what everyone is playing just like on the 360? Hmmm if it is very similar to Live this is good...I hope Microsoft takes note and makes live cheaper/free

As much as I love my PS3, I have to say Live is definitely more robust than the PSN overall. However the PSN does provide the basic services that Live has as well. Let's just put it this way... The PS Network is sufficient as a free online service for the time being. I for one hope they further enhance it via firmware updates.

To the top.

Mods "could" sticky this and make this much easier ;)

I added everyone in the thread to my list (I hope.)

As far as why I kept mine....that's easy. I didn't want to deal with Ebay, plain and simple. It isn't worth my time, or future frustration to risk the hassle (and possible scam) of losing my money to that site.

I finally bit and opened up one of mine lol. I'm not dissapointed at all. 1080p looks wonderful and motor storm demo was quite fun with the motion tilt.

gonna pop in resistance in a bit

I haven't played online but it seems to have all the essentials of Xbox live just minus the messaging during gaming, universal achivements, and gamerscore.
And honestly I don't really care about the achievements or gamerscores or anyone else's.

All you really need from a service is good matchmaking in the game and a way to contact people across games. It's pretty good for free.

What I really wish was the case is if people took a sweeter approach like Blizzard did with Battle.net and diablo II.

They hosted the games as well as the matchmaking. Having a mutual gaming host made playing a whole lot better. I mean if diablo II could do it for free, why not Sony or MS?

I have Marvel Ultimate Alliance, Tiger Woods '07, and Madden '07.

I'll be getting Resistance soon. I'm kind of kicking myself that I got Madden instead of it. Madden '07 is just not very good on either platform. :(

Because my thread was closed....

Question on PS3 Online ID, Personalization, etc
So I've decided to open and play one of my 20GB PS3s....

Now, if I start customizing it, and make an online ID, is the profile stuck to the system, or will I able to get a new 60GB (because I want the built in wireless and chrome) and transfer my setting etc?

As of right now? I don't think so....I did a thorough buzz-through of the ps3 dashboard, and I can't find anywhere to transfer a user ID, bookmarks, etc to a memory card of some nature.

You can delete users, but you lose everything related to that...so it's ALL stored on the machine. Until they (or if they) release a firmware that'll let you move profiles with machines....I think you're SOL.

Is it stored on the HDD?
If so, would the solution simpy be exchanging the HDD?

I guess we'll find out all the details with a little time.

It is going to take A LONG time for Sony to catch up to microsoft in the online department. They are doing better than nintendo atm though. Well, if they keep stealing stuff from microsoft, it might go quicker.
No offense guys, but why the fuck would you give up $2000+ for resistance?

No way in hell it's that good.
Cause we all arent as "cool" as you.

My ID is DarkNessBear.

Hope to see you all in Resistance.
