Looking for something a little better than the basic 6-outlet skinny one. Something with a little wider footprint, and a good surge rating would be nice. At least five outlets, and hopefully under $25. These are for my entertainment center, where I have about 15 things plugged into what amounts to one outlet.

May I ask why it needs to have a wide footprint? I use belkins surge protectors in my home, and they've been great. They cost around $20-$40 depending on the size. If you could up the budget to $40. Then you could get a really well made one. Another thing to remember about surge protectors is that you can find some that have 4000 joule rating, and they cost $15. That doesn't mean its any good though. The quality of the product matter just as much as the joule rating.

If you go to your local big box retailer. They'll have some made for home theater with 8 plugs, and they cost $25-$40.

Here are some ideas though.

I've been thinking about buying one these myself for my home theater.

Belkin and APC are the best as far as I'm concerned.

I use mid-range ($50) Acoustic Research strip for my home theater. It cleans the power rather nicely if you're using audio equipment. I wouldn't suggest it for high-end audio, but for the $400 system is does it's job.

If u care spare the sheckles, grab a UPS for about $60-80 instead. Considering how much money you are probably investing in your entertainment center, you would be better off grabbing a Uninterruptible Power Supply to condition the power from both spikes and brown outs. Brown outs are much more frequent that power surges, and over the long term cause more damage.

The are a little costly, but u can find them on sale every couple of weeks or so from the major B&Ms -- consider them an investment.

Belkin? I would trust "PowerSentry" before Belkin any day

Anyways...these are my main surge protectors

For the HDTV and HT set up: http://www.panamax.com/products.cfm?group=2&sec=detail&id=248&ly=v

For my computer set up: http://www.panamax.com/products.cfm?group=2&sec=detail&id=5&ly=v

I have to add though, I got them discounted through the cable company, if you have some set top boxes they'll usually give you a cheap one for free or cut you a discount on the high end ones....the one for my HDTV cost me $59 and the computer one cost me $5...so it's not that bad a hit..and I'm pretty sure they're as good as they need to be.

No way would I ever consider hooking up any sensitive piece of electronics to a UPS, you know how much distortion in signal ratios that would introduce? Plus the risk of defective circuit, power overages, etc..I don't like the sound of UPS units...

If keeping your rig up at all times matters that much, get a power conditioner and have a back up generator...

Do you need to have a sam's club card to order from the site? I never ordered online from sam's club (or costco) so I wouldn't know. The 12 outlet is something I would need. It's that or the 10 outlet belkin conceal one.

On another note. I went to BB today and saw the belkin concealed surge protector on sale today for $40. With $15 RC I was able to get for $25+ tax. Most likely this deal ends tomorrow so just fyi.

If you're wondering which this is..check under CitizenB's post (#3) and it's the first Belkin link he posted.

[quote name='shaneatlh']Hi, I have a Monster Power HTS 1000 MKII. It cleans power really great. My video and audio sound much better and it is a really great surge protector. I bought a store display model from this store on ebay for $52 shipped about 6 months ago and has worked flawlessly since. Here is the link

I use the one you stated for my home theater set up in my basement.
HTS 1000 MKII PowerCenter™ with Clean Power™ Stage 2 v.2.0
For the price you pay for it it can go into the realms of high end. That ebay link you provided has an awesome price but makes me wonder.

For my game consoles and computer, I have used other Monster products along with Panamax, APC and Belkin (No specific order).

Look for ones that allow full use of the provided outlets. I've seen some where you plug in a few transformers and lose the usefullness of the other outlets because they are blocked.
