Attention: Can I use some of the avatars for a class project

I am student at the University of Colorado at Boulder. The football team that beat CSU over the weekend. The college that got all the coverage for the "legal" activities last year. I am a student in a program call TAM(Technical Arts and Media), I am working on making websites for class. Some of you will probably call this a trick but it's not, I just need some kind of verification to use your avators pics and animations for the website. I will put links up to different websites for you if you want to include them with your avatar pics. Your avatars are really cool and if you need further explanation or if you just want to bug me about this, just pm me. Please can I use them

What kind of project? How will you use them? Why our avatars? Whose avatars specifically do you want to use? Why not contact those people directly?

Mine was done by WhipSmartBanky. If he says you can use mine, then you may use it.

The class project that I am currently working on is a website. I would like to use some of the avatars because my teacher wants us to creates several sequential images that make a story. The avatars will help me because some of the pictures are really hard to find on the net. Now with the next couple of questions.

I would ask directly but I was speaking with CheapyD about this last week. He told me to put the message up in this forum. Another reason I did not ask directly because I don't know who made which avatar and I can address more people this way and it is a lot faster than pm'ing everyone, one by one. I'd rather use your avatars than some other pics on the net because some of the people here have really funny avatars and some of the best animated avatars i have ever seen. Most websites I have seen with pictures are not that great because their pictures are so bland and general but here at this website each avatar speaks with their own grace and humility. If you need to know more just pm me

I think you are going to have to ask directly. Many avatars were made by artists here. And many were just stolen from other places on the the Internet.

I really don't want to be a dick here, but if you don't want to contact people directly, you really need to specifically name them here so they can at least be notified. What if the owner of the particular avatar you want to use doesn't reply? Does that imply permission?

I hate to do this, but at this point I'm going to have to say no and ask that you please not use any of the ones I drew. These include: WhipSmartBanky (and all variants), Methane, CheapyD (both variants), Retroguru, Wshakspear, Punqsux (both variants), BigNick and Mr. Anderson.

I do appreciate your attempt (a broad attempt, but an attempt nonetheless) to obtain permission, though. Many people would just do it and not say anything.

Your use of avatar pics, even original ones, should fall under fair use as long as it's for limited time and educational purposes. Hell, half the avatars here fall under fair use, like mine.

You can do whatever you like with mine.

So how's this project going? Are you going to share the results with the CAGs you borrowed avatars from? Keep us posted!
