It depends what kind of inputs your monitor has. If it only has VGA/DVI inputs, you would need to get some component cables for the PS2 and hook it up with something like this:

Otherwise, your monitor might have the inputs necessary for you to just plug it in with regular composite, S-Video, or even component in.

my monitor is a compaq FS7600 (its not great but it still plays well and has good detail in picture quality) so im pretty sure that mine only has VGA output and when i look at the back of the monitor there's no input holes, just the VGA and power cord coming out. so i'm sure i odnt have the DVI inputs.
so if i buy that VGA converter that you showed me a link to, is that all i need??
i've been looking through google and alot of people said that you should get S-video cables instead of using composite. is that true?? and i also heard that you have to have a monitor that supports 480i in order to play it. is that true?? thanks

The X2VGA, Vdigi, and Xploder VGA Adaptor will only work with games which support 480p/Progressive Scan (which isn't most of them), check here for which do:

But the Xploder VGA Adaptor is designed to work with the Xploder HDTV Player, which is software that will allow you to play most games in 480p.

The HDTV Player is probably the best bet if you want high quality, but will be a hassle with games that don't support 480p natively (you have to insert the HDTV Player disc before the game).
At those prices, you could probably just spend a little bit more and get a 19 inch TV with audio video inputs
Only with composite video inputs, computer monitors are always HD quality.

well money isnt a problem to me, but i dont want to buy a new monitor since i already have one that works fine.
hey penguin, if i get the HDTV player and Xploder VGA adapter will i be fine??
also where do i connect the audio inputs??

Usually the adapters come with a converter to 1/8" headphone jack for the audio. Also, if you change your mind about price I have a VGA box (composite and component, non HD quality though) I'm trying to dump for $35-$40 shipped.

pm me about it maybe i might buy it. im still deciding which one i should buy.

You'd really need something like Adaptec's Gamebridge and run it through your computer. Search on the CAG forums for a thread about some cheap ones from a few months back. There's some lag (fairly minor-far less than a second as the device has to do a conversion), and of course games don't look that great on a monitor because of the resolution.

I bought mine for probably around $20 shipped, and it works okay. You really want to use it with an S-video cable though (those type of devices only seem to support composite or s-video, no component, so you'd want to use the best connection possible on it).

i only have a monitor, no pc. my pc was torn apart about a year ago when i got my 360.

I read some of all of your posts, and maybe I'm missing something. Most tv tuners allow you to put the rca inputs right into them. Frankly, I bought one for 45, a 40 rebate brings that to 5 shipped. It plays my ps2 just fine on my monitor, though at 480i. It was at newegg.com and the rebate is over now. All these converters are fine, but if you found a cheap tv tuner you'd have consoles on your monitor, as well as a tv, and for 5, its cheaper than the adapters anyway...
