While you’re probably busy being buried by this year’s holiday releases, we’re busy bringing you the biggest world exclusives in Game Informer Magazine. Today, we’re dropping the bomb on our December world-exclusive cover story – Ghostbusters! Harold Ramis, Bill Murray and Dan Aykroyd are getting back together and revisiting their roles to make a sequel to Ghostbusters 1 and 2 – in video-game form, and we’ve got the first details. Both Aykroyd and Ramis are teaming up for scriptwriting duties and are going far beyond just the typical licensed add-your-voice-to-the-game-you-had-nothing-to-do-with formula. And no, this has nothing to do with the Ghostbusters Zootfly video demonstration that floated around the internet in January.

Ghostbusters and TimeO

We are very glad to see the overwhelming response to the Ghostbusters prototype movies. What you’ve seen is indeed in-game footage of early prototypes on the Xbox 360, running on ZootFly’s proprietary engine. Due to licensing issues, further development of the Ghostbusters game hit a bump on the road, but everybody here at ZootFly is working actively on resolving the challenges with the owners of the Ghostbusters IP.

Not to lose the momentum, a part of the ZootFly team is currently working on an original game called TimeO, which is closely related to Ghostbusters. The game follows the adventures of two die-hard New Yorkers. They get trapped deep in the shadow world of a parallel New York. The city itself is a war machine threatening to wipe out our world and they have three days to stop it.

As soon as the Ghostbusters IP issue is resolved, the whole team will go back to Ghostbusters. In the meantime, please enjoy these two movies
.
Its so awesome I can't wait. BTW when did the Ghostbusters car change to what looks like a Chrysler 300C station wagon.
Actually it looks like a Dodge Magnum with a Chrysler Grill.

That'd be really sweet if they landed the rights to distribute this.

Licensing issues=the fact that the IP is owned by Sony.

Every since I seen the Wii setup with the remote I thought the ghost busters would be a great game for it. Just to use the Wiimote to shoot the ghosts stuck in my mind. Funny to see this now. I hope it turns out well.

This is awesome. Much better than my old C64 ghostbusters game. Let's hope they can make a deal with Columbia to distribute this game.
that sucks
Yep that means that more then likely it will create a a huge buzz on the internet. Then Sony might try to make it for the PS3 only.

I can understand some of this work being done before the licensing was complete but that last scene with Bill Murray doesn't make sense. Why would they recreate that without having inked a deal to do this game?

Wow did they actually develop a game and release info about it using IP that they didn't have the rights to? That's pretty dumb, for lots of reasons. Now if they want to negotiate the rights the rights-holder has an advantage knowing they have already spent time developing the concept. Plus if they wanted to make some changes to make it 'like' GB they would be less likely to get away with it now. Amazing.
is the state puff marshmellow gonna be the final boss?
Actually is the Stay Puft Mashmallow. But i tell you what. The one video with Bill Murray looks REALLY Good. Also the gameplay looks pretty good as well. I hope this comes into production some time soon! I will have a pre order ready for it!

Oh man, I had almost every Ghostbusters toy they put out. I'm pretty sure the Marshmallow Man is worth a pretty penny if you have one in good shape--I remember seeing one at some collectors market (like a flea market for nerds) many years ago, and they were asking some ridiculous amont.

Couldn't they just change the likenesses of the characters, and change the title and release this game a "Ghosthunters" or something like that to avoid lawsuits if they can't come to terms with the companies?

It's what pornos do, don't see why they couldn't make this a parody or something.

It's already been done on PS2. And isn't Ghostbusters sort of a parody in itself?

Yeah, they may have been able to get away with that, if they hadn't already told the world they were working on a *Ghostbusters* game. D'oh!

Looks like Gears of War with Bill Murray. :D I wonder if there will be co-op, and if so, what really happens when you cross the streams?

Thats gotta be a new Action Figure. Cause i remember the OLD Stay Puft Marshmallow man had a big happy smile on its face. Also does anybody remember the one toy where Egon (probably spelt it wrong) had his eyes come out and his pop up. Man Good times with those toys. Hell i even had the House and the Ecto 1. But my mom would yell at me when ever i used the Ghost slime in it. Still if they come out with it and its 4 player co-op...THEN imaging crossing the beams! Oh boy!

I think you're right about the MM.

Nice, I had those toys, too. After I camped for my Wii, I was describing the insanity to my parents, and got a couple stories from them about toys and holiday madness. They said the worst, far and away, was the House--apparently they had a large network of friends and relatives sweeping the entire state of Minnesota to find me one. I'd have told me to fuck off.

The more I think about it, the more I really want to play this game. It sucks that it might never happen.

I believe they just took the audio from the movie.

The game looks great actually and i really DO hope this comes through. Also i gotta admit the House was awesome. It had three levels with a pole that had like a stand on it for the figures. You put the figures on the pole and the'd go down it like a spiral. Man good times with those Toys.

ALSO here is what the Orignal Stay Puft Marshmallow Man toy looked like.

150px-Stay-puff-marshmellow-man-ori.jpg

I had a Egon action figure based off of the cartoon a long time ago. The paint on it was very strange. Every time it was cold, the paint would turn blue so Egon's skin would turn blue and his suit was tinted blue.
I believe they just took the audio from the movie.
Sure but someone did the modeling to make Vetmin look like Bill Murray. The audio is easy but the video would have taken some work.

What dumbass makes a game before getting the rights to use the name?

I'm going to make a Mario game before asking Nintendo if I could!

They must have done it as a marketing stunt...free advertising for whatever that other game is they are working on. As well as advertising for their company. Maybe they are hoping to sell the studio to Microsoft.

And their plan worked perfectly. Seriously.

They probably used that just to pitch the game to Columbia (and eventually Murray himself), they don't need to do anything with Murray for that.

That's a very good point and you are probably right.

Ouch...Sony doing a favor for an X360 game...doub it. The negotiation could mean that they make it a PS3 exclusive or for them to release it on the PS3 as well...who knows.

If this is true , it's just another reason for me to passionately dislike Sony .
You reading something different? I read the original article and the gamespot one and they both mention motion capture, not VO. Joystiq is reporting that it's not actually a game, but rather a CG ghostbusters movie that Aykroyd will be doing mocap for.
"I'm actually going to have to perform and do some motion capture for them. That will be next year."

I probably just read it wrong, as I took perform as voice acting. Why even bother doing motion capture? I don't give a fuck if Dan Aykroyd is doing backflips, I wouldn't know if it was him or some homeless guy doing it.

A CGI movie is in the works. From comingsoon.net

A CGI Ghostbusters III?
Source: CISN Country
February 2, 2007

Dan Aykroyd visited radio station CISN Country and revealed that a Ghostbusters III is in the works.

Aykroyd said that the film will be CGI and Bill Murray has agreed to do the voice of Dr. Peter Venkman. No word on whether Harold Ramis, Ernie Hudson or any other of the original actors will return to voice their characters.
