#13659843 Nintendo Switch Preorder Thread 2.0

Posted by jamesesdad on 13 March 2017 - 01:34 AM

The 'used' pro controller came in from amazon warehouse deals. Was listed used like new, still factory sealed. I've heard several negative things about amazone warehousedeals, and their seller rating is pretty shit, but I figured I could always return it worst case. Came in wednesday shipped in a Fuck ing bubble mailer  fortunately the box was intact. The box was torn near the top at the hang tag about 3 inches, but everything was indeed sealed in new condition.

After several days with the controller I like it. It feels similar to the wiiu pro, but the dpad, triggers, and face buttons are all quite a bit larger, and feel better imo. The matte finish, and textured grips feel quite a bit nicer too. It should be obvious just from looking, but the controller is considerably more comfortable than the joycon/grip.

At the end of the day I'm glad I picked it up for 62 dollars. I think 77 after tax is highway robbery, and honestly not worth it. The controller has HD rumble (which hasn't impressed me thus far), and an amiibo reader, which people often point to these features as the reason behind the higher price tag. What they don't mention is the features the controller doesn't have, like a headphone jack, a touchpad, or pressure sensitive triggers. I'd honestly rather have all the features it doesn't have than to pay extra for the ones it does.

I think playing going back and forth between zelda on the big screen and handheld mode really sold me on it. The game is incredibly engrossing on the big screen with surround sound.

While the joycons certainly aren't ideal, they are absolutely functional. I bought Shovel knight, and have spent several hours playing it on the tv with the grip, handheld, and even in tabletop with a joycon held sideways. I'm honestly shocked at how well each playstyle works. I was able to clear the first campaign using arrow buttons for inputs, and it was honestly quite comfortable. Yesterday I cleared the main tower challenge in specter knight's campaign using the joycon held sideways with the analog stick. After a brief period of adjustment, I've found all the playstyles to be quite serviceable.

That being said, a 'used like new' pro controller popped up on amazon from warehouse deals for 61.99 with a description 'factory sealed', so I hopped on it. worst case scenario its busted and I have to send it back.

Has anyone got the chance to try Fast Rmx?

So I bought Fast RMX today. I think for 20 dollars its pretty damn solid. 30 tracks with 3 engine classes, 15 vehicles, Up to 4 player splitscreen @ 1080p 60fps, splitscreen for tabletop as well, and online multiplayer. If you enjoy wipeout, and f-zero, then don't hesitate to pick this title up. It feels more like wipeout without weapons than Fzero, but it utilizes a polarity swapping mechanic like Ikaruga. For those unfamiliar, there are boost pads along the tracks, either orange or blue. and you press a button to swap your ships color between the two. If you drive over a pad opposite your polarity you slow down, which leads to some intense moments mid race.

If any one has any other questions about the game or more detailed thoughts I'd be happy to share.

While I agree with most of your points, I have to disagree here. Rebirth itself (the base game) is $15, and I believe Afterbirth and Afterbirth+ are $11 and $10 respectively full price. That's $36 base price, plus the manual, stickers, etc. in the physical version. On top of that, the Switch will be the first handheld/console version to get Afterbirth+; the 3DS, Wii U, and Vita versions never even got the first expansion.

It's easy to look at the graphics and playthrough length and assume it's not even worth half the asking price, but I can guarantee it's 100% completion time is a good deal longer than that of Breath of the Wild.

Not to mention with amazon prime or bb GCU you can get the game for 32 dollars which is steal considering it includes a full color instruction book 2 sticker sheets, and alternate cover art sleeve, and currently the only physical version of the game. I think it seems like a no brainer for 30 bucks.

Soooooo Friend codes? Really nintendo? As I said in the previous thread, this is why everything Reggie says should be taken with a grain of salt. Not even 3 months ago Reggie lied on Cnet claiming there would be no friend codes.

https://www.cnet.com...-tablet-launch/

This is exactly why I was so nervous about their complete lack of radio silence on so many troubling issues. As far as I'm concerned this is a bait and switch (pun moderately intended). I had a feeling the only reason they weren't announcing stuff was because they knew it was bad news people wouldn't like, and were trying to ride the positive hype wave. This essentially confirms my fears that they've learned almost nothing from their mistakes in the past in terms of digital marketplace, and online infrastructure.

Had this information been presented before my preorder had already shipped, I likely would have canceled, as its pretty damning evidence nintendo has their head firmly planted up their ass, and are willing to lie about it.

And of course I want reasonable adult conversations, however not even 5 pages back people were once again calling chris a troll, wondering why mods hadn't banned him and more needless drivel. That's when we've moved passed the point of adult conversation, and people acting like children need to be called on it. I'm sorry (not really) if the content of my posts bothered you, but I enjoy the banter chris provides regardless of the length, and don't want people acting like its acceptable to try and silence some ones voice because they disagree with him, or can't be bothered to read 2 paragraphs of text.

But that block button isn't going anywhere buddy, do us both a favor and just block me if you have such serious issue with what I have to say because I will fire back at you when you attack me.

You're either here to be a dick, or you're not. Pick one.

You clearly made your choice starting a post with an ad hominem attack on me. Yet I'm the one being antagonistic  that's rich.

All that you have done in this thread is complain about people complaining about people complaining. Get a new schtick. You can't pretend you're just here for innocent conversation and then also call everyone "fucking crybabies". You're either here to be a dick, or you're not. Pick one.

And just to be clear you are absolutely being a crybaby telling some one they aren't allowed to post a dissenting opinion on a public forum, just because you don't agree with the content of their post.

Chris has provided plenty to the general conversation besides being critical of nintendo. He has never told any one how to spend their money, or that they shouldn't buy the system. Pointing out flaws and valid criticisms are healthy for a meaningful conversation, and allows people to make judgements on value for themselves. I'd much rather have substantive discussions about the system and nintendo's problems in the past, than a Fuck ing circle jerk praising nintendo for 2,500 posts.

Not true, but ok. Every time I posted a valid criticism of nintendo I got labeled a troll just like chris. You guys are being dicks to him just because you don't agree. If you have such a problem with his or my posts, block us you dunce.

If this was a holiday release, I would say your correct. But if a store has 50 over and above their preorder numbers, he should be fine.

So true. I don't even use sleep mode on my 3DS anymore because it's so bad. While the Vita isn't perfect, it's sleep mode is one of it's best features. So I'm happy to see the NS is up to the task.

BTW, the Edge Zelda review is out, and it got a 10. That's damn good coming from Edge, they never give out 10's.

What are you doing voice of dissension? I thought you were only here to troll the thread and send all these Fuck ing crybabies into a tailspin of anxiety that some one's opinion doesn't conform with their own???!?!?!?!?

On a serious note, I appreciate you, and hope you continue to provide meaningful adult conversation within the thread. Don't let the haters get you down.

Is anybody concerned about the left joycon failures being reported by reviewers? Nintendo only says they're aware of the problems no word on a solution.

Thou shalt not post reasonable criticisms of nintendo on this thread. Circle jerk only.

Binding of Isaac delay is official, pretty bummed out since it was the only other game I was for sure buying at launch. Added a 20 page color instruction book, and an additional Isaac sticker because of the extra delay.

Spoiler

The pictures of the instruction book looks great, a throwback to the Zelda instructions on NES.

I'm bummed about the delay, but the new goodies are cool, and I'm sure I'll be plenty busy with zelda till Isaac drops.

The guardian amiibo box is huge. Also: new Zelda amiibo come with a new Nintendo logo.

EDIT: Damn..someone posted it before I gave up on figuring out how to embed lol.

Lol leave it to gamexplain to do a 10 minute unboxing where nothing gets opened... smh. Jokes aside, I do love their in depth content. Interesting the embargo gets lifted feb 23. Hopefully nintendo drops some info on VC, and online features.

Zelda Breath of the Wild Game Box & Cartridge

Spoiler

No gold cartridge :\ sad

Yeah except this is the guy that spent 10 posts hating on the Switch in this thread and said he isn't getting one anytime soon.

Now 2 days later he wants to know about the Switch version of LCU?!?!?!

This is after saying it's too expensive.  System is $500.  Never sell.  Nintendo is horrible.  Blah Blah Blah.

So I'm like really?!??!!  That's makes no sense.  It really just seems he just wanted to confirm LCU had no new content so he can complain about Nintendo like his other 10 posts.   :)

Anyway just mentioning it makes it look like I care.  I don't.  I just remember and notice when stories don't add up.

OH and now his story is HE still doesn't want a Switch.  (HE bought himself the  Wii U.)    But HIS son wants a Switch for xmas.   Clear as day.  A lot of dancing going on there.

I mean as long as I've been following the thread, that seems to have been his story.... not sure why you're trying to crucify the guy because he has asked a question. Whether you agree with him or not, hes been mostly respectful and contributed to the conversation in a meaningful way, which is clearly more than we can say for you in this instance.

we got an argumentative bunch in here! (pot calling the kettle black

Just to throw my hat into the mix, I think achievements are great. I  don't usually care about them, but I think they're excellent for fostering new ways to approach games. A perfect example for me was Half Life 2 on the orangebox. I had already beaten HL 2 probably close to 5 times by the time the game came out on the 360. Adding achievements to the 360 version, they also put them on the steam version. Several achievements compelled me to play through areas of the game in unique ways I hadn't even considered.

Play through Ravenholm only using the gravity gun

Cross the Antlion beach in the chapter Sandtraps without touching the sand.

Find all lambda caches in Half-Life 2.

Playing through ravenholm with only the gravity gun was absolutely thrilling, and something I'd have never really considered without the achievements. Just imagine if nintendo added these types creative of achievements to virtual consoles games? I think if they could come up with some creative ones it would be a blast.

To those in staunch disapproval of an achievement system, why do you care so much? It doesn't affect you, ignore it. People have different tastes, and just because they differ from yours doesn't mean they are inherently wrong or bad. Life is much easier when you learn to accept that.

And just to be clear, I have the system preordered, and I'm very excited to play it. I've owned every nintendo console (still got the virtual boy), I really do love their games. But when you love something or some one, it hurts you that much more when they Fuck up, and Nintendos been doing a lot of Fuck ing up lately. As a life long customer spending the better part of 400 dollars to play their new system, you better believe I'm going to be critical of their business decisions over the last 8 years. This comment on the switch release presentation made me laugh but seemed spot on

"Watching the Nintendo Switch presentation is like watching an ex girlfriend who has so much potential but is totally making the same Fuck ing mistakes over and over and you just want to shake them and tell them to stop."

Lots of questionable decisions, which likely will hurt system sales. For the asking price, it should have included a game. At 300 dollars with nothing included it will be compared to tablets, and the other home consoles. For the money, there isn't a lot of value there, short and long term. No pack in game, very pricey controllers, and ambiguous major 3rd party support. It all looks pretty bad to me.

Still, the fact they even did a superbowl add does give me more confidence in them. But as a customer of their home consoles, the last 8 years have left me extremely skeptical. I want to be wrong, I want nintendo to succeed,  but none of their messaging about the switch has eased my doubt.
