Great deal!  While I know everyone is chest bumping over the KS8000, but that is significantly more expensive and for the vast majority of people you'll not notice the $$$ difference unless both were setup next to each other.  (Source, myself I was a regional manager at Tweeter Home Audio and video for 4 years when that was still a thing).

Good input lag, good HDR, good motion blur handling, for the money the Sony is a nice set.

I feel like there's always a better one coming. One of the vices of pc gaming. I'm not interested in 4k yet, I'd still say maybe 2 more years before I start dipping into that world. Still fun to follow this conversation though. I'm actually interested in a Alienware R2, small form factor is something I've been dreaming of for years and I finally feel like it's getting there

There certainly was a "better one just around the corner" for quite a while about 5 - 6 years ago, but things have slowly started to slow down.  Even Intel's Tick-Tock rhythm of performance ratio has officially been broken.  If you have anything less than a GTX700 series or below this certainly is an amazing time to upgrade, but going from a 980ti to 1070 is a waste of money, but hey it's not my money.  GP100 will be the card that everyone thought the 1080 was supposed to be, but we probably won't see a consumer version of it until next year, unless they push out a Titan GP100 in the fall.  Ti will be where it's at as long as they can get their HBM2 manufacturing underway.

In reference to 1070/80 series better for VR, it's not very noticeable yet for VR in terms of the gains, again you're just buying into the horseshit marketing.  (Source is myself and my friend whom is writing a program for Vive right now).

Everyone keeps telling me to stick with my 980ti..but what do they know?

I've been building computers a long, long, long time.  I have the same 980ti and I would absolutely tell you to wait, this is a half step until the true GP100 chips with HBM memory.  Saying that you should get a 1070 or a 1080 in exchange is not the best advice.  I'm in the same boat as you, I have 2 ROG Swifts with Gsync and 2 Samsung 4K JU7500 sets that I would love to push 4k on, but I'm not going to deal with SLI shit (To big of a hassle, I had two Titan X's).  I spent more time fussing with terrible sli profiles than I did playing which is why I got a 980ti.  As long as you can boot up games, set it to ultra and go you should keep your card.

Next year when we finally get HBM2 GP100 Pascal, then we will crush worlds in 4k.
